Memphis Grizzlies are making a push to get Mareese Speights from the 76ers.  No word on what they are offering yet but with Arthur out for the season and Randolph injured at the moment, they could use some size in the lineup.

I think it would be a good move for the Grizz because they dont need a smart player, they just need someone to spell Randolph for 10 min a game and Gasol for 10 min a game..

Does he fit well and who do you think they will trade?

    EDIT:

They would send Xavier Henry and 2 2nd round draft picks for Speights.

Not Mayo hopefully lol. Because he’s the name that always seems to pop up.

I think he’s a decent fit for them at the moment to get solid back-up minutes for the short-term and be a possible rotation player for the long-term. Speights is talented, but definitely needs a change of scenery.

That trade is actually mutually beneficial for both teams, because Memphis gets to clear some cap space(They do not even use Henry or his lottery-scale contract) and the Sixers get a solid shooting guard for the future while getting rid of a disgruntled player who was not even in their rotation.

It’s a three way deal between Philly, Memphis, and New Orleans. The Hornets will receive Henry from Memphis, and Philly will get a couple of picks. I think he is a great fit  for Memphis though, he gives the Grizz some nice frontcourt depth, which they really needed.

I heard there’s a 3 Team Trade in the Works..Who the 3rd Team is i dont know yet..

After Gasol and ZBo there other frontcourt men arent unproven….But Speights is also unproven..Cummingham has been a surprise,he’s some outside shots, but they need more big men that gives them something on a consistent basis…

But it would be bad to give up Henry so soon….That will come back to hunt them..Opposing coaches were raving about his defense and poise for a rookie..They have several other wing players they can ship out,Quincy Poindexter,Sam Young hadnt been in the rotation until last night and that was only becuz Randolph wasnt there…

Well Memphis needs some size bad. The commercial appeal reported that  ZBo is out 8weeks

I always thought Speights would be a great fit in Golden State and would explode in that offense.  I don’t like the idea of just giving Speights away for picks tho unless it’s a 1st rounder in next years draft because his stats are misleading this dude can play.  The only reason he don’t get time is because he isn’t great in Collins defensive scheme and misses rotations too often.  But he is not disgruntled and loves playing for Collins even tho he rarely see’s the court he has completely bought into the system and understand he needs to get better at certain things.  He isn’t a totaly liability on defense because Speights actually tries to play defense realy hard but is just not smart at it.  Often you’ll see him trying to take charges when in reality his length and hops can just punt the ball.

Speights main draw is that he is one of the best mid range shooting big men in all of basketball.  This is not an overstatement, Speights has a deadly mid range jumper which he relies on too often instead of banging instead.

I’d love for the Sixers to swing a deal that nets us back Mayo, Henry (really think a Henry for Speights deal is perfect), or New Orleans can send back a Landry.

It’s a good deal, especially notable given Memphis success with previously much maligned bigs like Speights.

Adding to what Rudeboy said above, there apparently is a three team trade which includes Philli, Memphis and New Orleans. All of the trade hasn’t been publicily released yet I don’t think, but from what I’ve heard Xavier  Henry is going to New Oreleans to help with SG depth (eric gordon has been out for the past couple of games). And of course Speights is going to Memphis. I’m not sure what New Oreleans is trading though.

They were patient with Dalembert why not Speights. He was their best offensive big man next to Brand. I consider Thad Young a SF. They basically gave him away they should have at least tried to get OJ Mayo. Pissed off …since they are in the business og giving players away try giving away AI Jr. Someone who plays all the defense in the world but can’t make a shot …

Arthur’s injury is really coming back to bite them, he really came on last year and was, in my opinion, one of the better backup power forwards in the league.  He’d probably be about a 15 ppg 7 rpg 1 bpg player as a starter.

Speights gives Memphis extra height in the frontcourt whilst Z-Bo is out, NOH get a young prospect in Henry whilst Philly get a couple of useful 2nd rounders and clear a bit of cap space so a fair deal all round.

What the hell are the Sixers getting back in the Deal…we gave up a talented(but underwhelming) Pf/C…he’d be a great 3rd big in Memphis while Arthur and ZBo are down, I just realy wish got Henry or Mayo back in the deal…If we do just get late 1st round picks or 2nd rounders it could be a sign we’re going to Amnesty Brand(saving 18 million in Cap space) and draft a Pf in 2012, having multiple picks in a deep draft allows them the flexibility to move up and get an Impact player at Pf or C…I really hope the Sixers have a plan past this year…

We absolutely need to Amnesty Elton Brand in July of 2012, this will give us 20 plus million in cap space…If we can use the 2012 Draft to get a Starting Pf of the future it could lure Dwight Howard to join us at C…we’d be one of the youngest and competitive Teams not named the OKC Thunder with Cap space and all the pieces in Place for the next decade- Holiday-Turner-Iguadola-Thad Young-(Sullinger/Davis/Jones III/Drummond/Moultrie/Robinson/Henson)…Salary dumps always lead to something down the road…Losing Speights for draft picks tells me the Sixers are looking to fill the Pf Void in the 2012 draft where there are plenty of bigs to go around…If they make the Ultimate Salary Dump and give up Iggy for a Lottery Pick and Expiring Contract(Example – Hornets trading Kaman and 1 of their Two 1st round Picks for Iggy…Cutting ties with Iggy via Trade and Brand through Amnsety would save 32 million…

I hate your assessments  your always going left field with long espn trade machine/ naive fantic rants .We live in the same city both have csn I thought we a both realize maybe the reason they gave up speights is because he fell out of grace.Reason sixers gave up speights to me was Craig Brackins playing good in the rare occasions he gets to play, just drafting a rookie big that I dislike ,extending hawes after this season, having to give pf time to thad young ,and brand not going anywhere.

Only time Howard will play in Wells Fargo is to give the 76ers an L.

I think the 2 second round draft picks are great ,when they do cut ties with brand and package off Andre next season they will have a new young core to add to the already young but experienced sixers or assets to move.

I know it seems like a long shot theSixers get any Star player, but how hard is it to Amnesty Brand and find a Team with a lottery pick and expiring Cash to take on Iguadoal…I actually have Satalite TV so I dont have Comcast Sports Net(and I dont get to watch many Home Town Team games meh)

Iguadola to Team with Cap room for a top 15 pick during the Draft seems very possible IMO…It gives the Sixers a chance to add 2 top 20 Picks to the Core of Holiday-Turner-Young…we could a add a solid Sf and Pf prospect to replace the loss of Iggy/Speights/Brand/Nocioni…

To Amnesty Elton Brand on July 1st and Declining Andres Nocioni’s 6.5 Million dollar Team Option on the Eve of a possibly huge Free Agency sounds like a GM’s dream…They’d have the Cap room and Young pieces to surround the 2 biggest Free Agents …Deron Williams-Evan Turner-Thad Young*-Insert 2012 Pf Prospect Here and Dwight Howard is a solid Team and Legit Contender, the Sixers would have Jrue Holiday as a HUGE trade chip for either a Starting Sf or Pf(depending on who they draft and where Thad Young fits in the Lineup)…That sounds like a better option than being in NBA purgatory, getting the 7th or 8th seed, 17th or 18th pick in the draft and No Real Super Star on the Roster…

Amnestying Brand next year at the Very least allows us to get near Max Cap Room, Nocioni’s team option and a possible Iguadola salary dump sound like VERY possible options IMO…Of Course we have to see how things play out with Howard and Williams, either one could resign or be traded to other Teams in the next 7 months…

As a Philly fan I had hope you’d understand my frustration and attempt to think positivly about my Team making horizonal moves while the NBA’s elite are in the mix for every player seemingly…

Speights will move right into the starting lineup in Memphis since Dante Cunningham is currently the starter and I would be surprised to see him put up big numbers.  Speights can catch fire, I don’t think people understand how nice a shot this dude has but mid range shots are like lay ups to him.  And he’s big and athletic.  Memphis basically traded their 19 yeard old lottery pick from last year for him which is saying a lot and brings me to my next point.

WTF are the Sixers doing?!?  I’m not mad we traded Speights I’m mad we had the opportunity to get a nice young prospect like Xavier Henry in return and we blew it.  Why!?  Henry would of been a perfect fit in Philly because of his athleticism and outside shooting.  Why couldn’t we of gave Iggy away I’d take 2 2nd round picks for him at this point right now he’s totally stuntin Turner’s growth and it makes no sense to keep him around.
