d-grizzlyParticipantwith a nice amount of remaining cap, could we just sign and trade warrick (include carrol) to a younger team for an experienced SG?
the next thing, why not sign somebody like Big baby? randolph has 2 years left on his contract…and could very well be the only 1-2 years he plays in memphis.
thabeet – gasol(more minutes, just benched though)
Randolph – Big Baby(big baby could be our future PF)
Gay – Young
Mayo – (backup SG?)
conely – marcus williams
who we lose – warrick, carrol.
what we gain – experience at SG, More rebounding and paint presence through big baby.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 9:41am #180785
Knicksboy34ParticipantI dunno, the Organization is very cheap.
Also, Your GM is scared to make deals. Ever Since the Gasol Trade, he does not wanna make deals unless he is the clear cut winner in the trade.

d-grizzlyParticipantwith thabeet and randolph joining the team, that makes 4 bigs for memphis (thabeet, randolph, gasol, arthur). With young joining the team, he’d play backup Sf. warrick becomes the oddman out.
gasol off the bench…it sounds $hitty at first to me…but if he could play the last 2 minutes of the first and third quarter..and the entire 2nd and 4th quarter as a more experienced closer.

Knicksboy34ParticipantIm talking Pau Gasol….
LOL, I remember all the Grizz fans got mad when I said you guys were taking Thabeet and get over it.

d-grizzlyParticipanti did forget…but haddadi will be in the big man rotation as well…meaning very little time for carrol and warrick.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 9:48am #180795
d-grizzlyParticipanti was mad simply because we had gasol, darko, athur and haddadi. we dropped darko..and made room for thabeet. it works out. plus i was more into getting a 4 after draft night…made trades. but it all worked out anyway

gatorheelsParticipanttrading carrol & warrick for a good SG would be very smart….this would allow Mayo to play some PG too if needed
also marcus williams looked really good yesterday…he can give Conley a run for his money

Knicksboy34ParticipantI dunno. I think Memphis is in a good spot with Mayo, Gay what you must do is
– Resign Rudy Gay
-find a PG
with 2 2010 1st round picks, I have no doubt Memphis will

d-grizzlyParticipantthanks gator, trading warrick and carrol away for a vet. sg makes alot of sense. there’s just no depth at SG…we have mayo, but we need a veteran to come in behind him.

grizz32ParticipantYou need to realize what we already have. We have our backup SG of the future in Young. He is 6’6, perfect size for the position and will be great to stop guys on defense. You are underestimating Carroll. He is like the Shane Battier we have been missing. He hustles on every play, has great defense for a SF, and can scoe if needed. As for Big Baby, why would we need him. Darrell Arthur did just as good as him this year and will be way better in the long run. I think he is our future PF. Don’t Fix whats not broken.
C-Hasheem Thabeet/Marc Gasol/Hamed Hadadi
PF-Zach Randolph/Darrell Arthur/Demarre Carroll
SF-Rudy Gay/Demarre Carroll
SG-OJ Mayo/Sam Young
PG-Mike Conely/Marcus WilliamsThis is most likely your 2009-2010 grizzlies roster unless AI comes.

grizz32Participantwatch the summer league games I think we will go undefeated
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:08am #180807
gatorheelsParticipantMan Sam Young is not a shooting guard. He can’t defended SGs in the nba. He will be the backup for Gay. Also Carroll is nothing like Battier. Carroll plays like a PF. You think Carroll can guard guys like LeBron, Granger, etc…hell no…guess what Battier can. Carroll plays under the basket way more than Battier…that is a poor comparison. Also Arthur & Big Baby are totally different players. I would rather have Big Baby though if I had to choose.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:13am #180812
d-grizzlyParticipantif i had to choose between a minute starving menace in the paint like big baby..or d.arthur…no offense to arthur…but i would very much rather have big baby.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:21am #180815
grizz32Participanti dont really want to argue with you guys but yesterday at the summer league game Hollins was interviewed and said Young was going to be Mayo’s backup. Carroll will probably have to be Gays backup. And Arthur will be better than Big Baby just wait and see.

d-grizzlyParticipanti was throwing out a scenario that would make alot of sense for the grizzlies.
they have cap space. they have options.

sheltwon3ParticipantI like what grizz put out even though there were a few head scratching things but I think they keep Warrick for bk sf and some pf and they play young at the 2 and 3. I dont know why they have some many people at the 4 spot though unless there is a trade in the works. New Jersey has a surplus of 1’s and 2’s. New Jersey will probably trade Alston because as a 3rd string pg behind Dooling who can also play the 2 but you also have Lee who can play some 1 but mainly is a 2 and CDR who can play all 3 perimeter spots but is more of a swingman who favors the 2. The have a lot of 3 men too with Hayes, Simmons, Williams who can play the 2 but game is more on the 3 level. I wonder what New Jersey does. They can trade CDR and Sean Williams maybe for someone decent. Also Battie would be good in a trade but he is a vet on a young team and could help Lopez’s growth.

gatorheelsParticipantWell if Young plays SG & Carroll plays SF then they will get abused.

grizz32Participanthttp://www.nba.com/summerleague2009/games/boxscore.jsp?gameId=1520900011
They played SG and Sf last night and both of the people they guarded scored 4 points. Just wait until the season
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:39am #180828
d-grizzlyParticipantanother scenario –
memphis trades – warrick and carrol
New jersey trades – Lee and (somebody)
next memphis signs big baby.
thabeet – gasol – haddadi
randolph – big baby – arthur
Rudy Gay – Young
o.j. Mayo – Lee
Conely JR. – M. williams.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:40am #180832
doubledribblerParticipantOnce again it looks like I am going to have to agree with gatorheels on a post. Though I don’t think as highly of Big Baby as he does, I think Big Baby is a great option for Memphis. Darrell Arthur is horribly inconsistent and doesn’t have the overall skill that Big Baby does. I don’t ever see Arthur making a big impact in the NBA. He didn’t really even do it in college so why would he be able to do it now against better competition?
Hollins is incredibly dumb if he wants Sam Young to be Mayo’s backup. Young is a pretty good player, but he’s going to be way too slow to check shooting guards. Carrol is a 4 and plays nothing like Battier.
This team will never win with their clown Gm. He was horrible in Boston and even worse in Memphis. They trade for an all around bad character guy and half court guy in Randolph when they would have been much better just signing one of a number of young power forwards (i.e., Big Baby, Brandon Bass, David Lee, Paul Milsapp, etc) for less money.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:47am #180838
gatorheelsParticipantSam Young dropped to the 2nd round because scouts were worried about his defense. No way is he going to guard guys like Ginobli, Eric Gordon, even Kevin Martin.
grizz32- tell me who they guarded in that summer league game?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:52am #180843
grizz32Participanthaha gatorheels. Bad move by you. They guarded number 3 pick in the draft James Harden who did great in the Orlando league. And Shaun Livingston, not much there. Young didnt drop because of his defense? You made that up.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:55am #180845
d-grizzlyParticipantyoung’s age certainly didn’t help.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:56am #180847
grizz32Participantd grizzly is right. thats why he dropped
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:56am #180848
gatorheelsParticipantHow was that a bad move on me? I read that about Young on espn after the draft. Also Harden isn’t the quickest guy & Livingston isn’t really much of a scorer.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:59am #180850
gatorheelsParticipantYou need to watch some games….
Young is not that great of a defender and he has never played SG in his life.
Carroll has never played SF. He plays nothing like an NBA small forward.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 10:59am #180851
grizz32Participantbecause harden went top 3 and Young and Carroll went 27 and 36 but showed him up
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 11:03am #180853
gatorheelsParticipantYoung is a capable defender though. I just think he is much better suited at guarding SFs then SGs.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 4:11pm #181026
matt12328ParticipantDo you guys think he fits well with the Grizzlies, I think Mayo should stay in Memphis and they should try and trade Gay away for a veteran.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/13/2009 - 4:12pm #181027
grizz32ParticipantHe fits fine here. The fans love him and he should and will stay. Great second option.
