I was just wondering, do you guys think there are any credentials that should guarantee you a spot in the HOF, such as an MVP award?
Most MVP's will make the Hall of Fame anyway, all eligible MVP's are in the HOF I believe and the next likely eligible guys like Shaq and AI are going to be HOF locks so are Tim Duncan, KG, Kobe, LeBron, Nash and Dirk.
The only questionable guy currently would be DRose as he has only been in the NBA 5 years and has sat out one with injury. But if he returns to anywhere near his old self then I'd say he has the ability to resume a likely HOF career but his inclusion could be 20 years off.
I was thinking the same exact thing honestly! I thought about MVP's, and then thought of the Rose situation, but as you said, it depends on if he continues to play at a MVP level after returning
Just steady play at an extremely high level, like first or 2nd all NBA level for like 10 years. MVP's and titles certainly add to your resume, but I wouldn't put a guy in or out based on that.
I would also look at All NBA Team positions but again most of those guys who have been MVP's are serial All NBA First or Second Teamers plus in a lot of cases make All Defensive Teams too.
We have done likely HOF lists on here lots of time and when we look at guys who have had a 10 year plus NBA career, there would most likely be some consensus on HOF locks, the borderline guys are harder to predict as personal opinion tends to count more there.
