cabbycabParticipantI have a hard time believing that this is the best player in the nation. Aside from youtube hightlights, I’ve seen him in only one televised prep game last year. He put up good numbers, but he did not make my jaws drop like Lebron did in his ESPN prep game. He seems to be missing something…maybe explosiveness? Would any body here take Perry Jones with the first pick instead?

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantTo me, Barnes is THE best player period. I feel he shouldn’t have been on the ALL american team.
I scouted him as a fan, not as a going to his games ( I’m a Duke fan) and he looked legit to say the least. He reminds me so much of like Ray Allen in the sense, I never seen Allen out of his zone. Yes, he may be off alot BUT he always plays in a flow.
If anyone else besides Barnes or Irving goes 1st next season, there should be a lockout until Owners and GM’s have some sense.

Lotto StudParticipantWithout any hesitation I would definitely take Perry Jones because he’s so versatile with his size.

WizardofOzParticipantWith Harrison Barnes, you know what you’re getting. A very high character guy with a very strong work ethic, good mid-range shot, and is a good but not great athlete. He does need to work on his ball-handling and his 3-point shot, but he’s the kind of guy that you know will get better because of his strong work ethic.
With Perry Jones, you’re getting a very talented player with high upside. He’s more athletic than Barnes, but Barnes is more polished. Can play SF/PF but will likely play SF in the NBA because of his great ball-handling skills for his size and he will be a NIGHTMARE for smaller SF’s. The one knock on him is that he has yet to develop a "killer instinct." He doesn’t dominate games like he’s supposed to.
If I had the #1 pick and had to choose right now, I would choose Barnes, but Jones does have the potential to become better than him.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantPerry Jones isn’t dominating high school basketball. How can he all of sudden develop that gene that Barnes has?

Tyreke JohnsonParticipantBarnes is not a guy that will wow you with his athletic ability or some flashy play but he is a great player, in every aspect of the game he is either solid or better. He has a terrific mid range game, solid three pointer, can rebound, very unselfish, can pass, can dribble fairly well but does need work on his left hand. Nevertheless he is a tremendous prospect and player and he is such a mature player that brings leadership and intangibles that coaches cannot teach, his work ethic is through the charts and the way he carries himself make him interesting. I have seen many comparisons such as Deng, Kobe, Hill, and even MJ. I cannot really make an accurate comparison of a player until they have atleast played a full college season but to me he could be a very special player, if he can lead UNC to a top seed in the tournament and puts up good stats while doing so I could definetly see him being a First Team All American and maybe even challenging Singler for POY and that is if he could put up around 20-24 ppg 5-6rpg and 2-3 apg while shooting a good field goal percentage. I know this sounds far fetched but I am very high on this kid and I do not do that very often, guys like Beasley and Durant were able to put up monster numbers even as freshman and I could see Barnes doing the same. I hope he proves me right.

gregoden08ParticipantBrandon Roy, Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson won’t wow you either, but their 3 of the top-20 players in the league. Barnes is probably more athletic than all 3 of those guys as well. He is a very safe pick. His offensive arsenal is very advanced, he tries hard on defense and he is a high character guy. I would take him over Jones anyday. Jones has a lot of talent, but he wasn’t even dominant in high school and I have serious doubts about him and I feel that people just look at his youtube highlights and automatically take him over Barnes.

Tyreke JohnsonParticipantI never said not being able to wow anyone was a bad thing, after I said that I stated he was a great player I am just saying he doesn’t have elite athletic ability, that doesn’t mean he isn’t a great player because he is.

stanford hoopsPotential wise you take Perry but that’s not the smart pick. If it’s all potential then why not take fab melo? Big athletic Center. I think I’ll stick with barnes. He’s the small forward version of Tim Duncan no visible weakness. He’s above average or very good at everything and reports are he has a great work eithic on top of a great motor

xavier328ParticipantI take Harrison Barnes over Perry Jones. Barnes does everything great, he doesnt have any holes in his game.
Barnes At Best=Scootie Pippen
At Worst= Loul DengPerry Jones at Best= 6’11 T-Mac/ its hard to find someone who does the things he do at his size.
At Worst= Andray Blatche0 - Posted on: Thu, 11/04/2010 - 3:20am #426843

lalailaParticipantand beside all Barnes greatness you shouldn’t forget he is almost one year younger than Perry and his is a gym rat those two things makes him potential VERY high…people forget his potential only becuase he is good already…but hey there is 6’8 215 long arms amazing all around game good athleticism and age of only 18(just a couple months ago)

HitsterParticipantPeople have compared Barnes to RAy Allen yet Barnes’s 3pt range is no where near what Ray’s is or was at his peak. Do people see Barnes as being such a good player off the ball as Ray Allen is? I like the comparison of Barnes being a better version of Luol Deng perhaps with the current Deng being Barnes’s mid level or limited downside.
Perry Jones is an interesting prospect given his size and skillset which could give lots of mismatches at SF or create problems against less skilled PF’s across the NBA.
I’d still have Barnes as a consensus top pick and if he fell outside the top 3 come draft night I’d be very shocked, Jones is a consensus top 3 with a downside of maybe top 6.
