The Hawks Just Screwed Up, Again

Why or why do we put our faith in one of the worst drafting franchises in the NBA?

They just drafted a 6'1" shooting guard. A SHOOTING GUARD!

Oh, and did I mention, they just traded for a shooting guard!?

And the best player on the team is a shooting guard!

Just chalk it up Hawkies. And to think, we were so close at getting a real PG for the future (Lawson). But no, we couldn't use Law and Claxton to move up a couple of spots. We had to pull the trigger on a guy who is a weaker version of a guy we already have.

PS - If anyone thinks that Teague is a PG, just look at the numbers. His assist/turnover ratio is the worst among any PG prospect in the draft. He is so bad that another mock website refused to list him as a PG. Oh, but he has a great first step. Laddy-freakin-da! We'd better resign Mike Bibby, or we won't have a PG for next season, or the future.

Boo!

I'm gonna go to sleep and dream that the Hawks are planning a sign-and-trade involving one of Minnesota's new PGs, Marvin Williams, and the speedy first stepper Jeff Teague!

What?

None of you can tell me you like this pick?

Wow, this can't be a representation of Hawks' fans. We're smarter than this, right?

Somebody, please defend Jeff Teague. Go ahead. Try to convince me he's not a 6'1" SG.

And Just To Save You Some Time

Here are Jeff Teague's stats from last season at Wake Forest:

2008-09 ~ 18.8 ppg / 3.5 apg / 3.4 topg / 53.2 TS%

Here are Acie Law's stats from his last season at A&M:

2006-07 ~ 18.1 ppg / 5.0 apg / 2.6 topg / 53.2 TS%

Oh, and http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Acie-Law-577/ just to remind you of how excited everyone was to draft Acie Law.

Numbers Don't Lie

At least I'm not hung up too much on potential.

And yes, they are different. Acie Law is better.

Nobody is hung up on

Nobody is hung up on potential. Almost every player drafted is going to be drafted on potential, unless you are a 4-yr player. You just dont understand anything about basketball at this level. You aren't looking at picks the right way. You can't look at it as a fan or specifically a fan of college basketball. Become the GM and look at what the hawks struggled at last year and where they need to improve. Its not like you are having much luck on AJC.com either

Don't Just Point Fingers

At least I'm bringing facts to my arguments. You guys are just throwing out opinions. Anybody can throw out an opinion. Look at Utah fans, they think Deron Williams is a better PG than Chris Paul, but the numbers say differently. Bring me something besides "You're a dork."

It was bad luck that we didn't get Lawson (a real PG), and we should've drafted Maynor (a real PG).

~ BlackMamba24? On the ajc.com and the ATL forums? I'm confused. However, yes, the draft is based on potential, BUT that potential can't just be based on what we've never seen. We've never seen Teague as a successful PG. Ever! He is a good college SG when he's not asked to pass. And if you watched Wake this season, you'd have seen that. When Teague had the ball, he either tried to score or got in a difficult situation where he either gave it up & hoped for the best or turned the ball over. That's a 2-Guard, not a PG.

~ 2K_DAVIS, you'dve taken Teague over Lawson? And when did we established Teague could play 2 positions? We don't even know if he can play 1. And, how do you know Teague is better than Law? Because it's your opinion, right? If Teague was as good as you say, then why did he fall to the #19 spot in a weak draft? If Acie Law was in this draft he'd have been drafted #8 or #10, I promise. Lawson is efficient, not spectacular, but efficient. As is Maynor. That's why they fell, BUT they'll have longer careers than Teague. Think about it. Teague was not an efficient PG in two years at college. Both Lawson and Maynor showed improvement over their four years, especially between their freshman and sophomore years at distributing and running an offense. Teague didn't. Teague showed improvement at scoring the basketball. And there has never been a successful shoot first PG! If you say Gilbert Arenas, tell me, other than making a lot of money, what has he won? Why are the Wizards, now, looking to acquire a PG? You can make an argument that Teague will be an effective pro, but you cannot, at this stage, tell me Teague is going to be an effective PG. You can't. He hasn't shown anything to prove this.

I wanna discuss things on the forum, but if you're gonna just throw out opinions without bringing some evidence as to why you feel that way, then just keep them to yourselves.

Speaking Of Summer League

Here are a couple of players I'd like the Hawks to take a look at:

Josh Heytfelt
Alade Aminu
Paul Harris
Jerel McNeal
Wesley Matthews
Curtis Jerrells
Ben Woodside
Joe Ingles
Slava Kravtsov

He looks like the new Jason Terry.

He looks like he could be the next Jason Terry. He looks like his twin. He plays just like him. There were better guys to draft. He was a great scorer in college if you watch the games. His form on his jump shot is perfect. Like Terry, I don't know if he will ever be a good true starting point, but Terry is a great player off the bench for the Mavs. But, who gets drafted won't really matter. Which ever team has the most established stars on it is going to go to the finals, because the league is fixed. Now its Dwight Howard and Lebron James in a popularity contest and Vince Carter and Shaq in a popularity contest. Let the best personality and most exciting dunks win!!!!

No Summer League Team?

I read Sekou Smith telling us there would be no summer league team for the Hawks. That sucks. You can find quality depth through the summer league. Signs of the times.

Yeah they cancelled the

Yeah they cancelled the Rocky Mountain Revue, which is the league that the Hawks usually compete in. The Las Vegas summer league has taken so many teams away from Utah. They only had 5 teams sign up for it last year

Since its creation, the list

Since its creation, the list has been topped by two governors and the co-owner of the Super Bowl champion Giants — men of great influence, to be sure. But what about influencing the human spirit?

Former NBA veteran and

Former NBA veteran and third-year assistant coach at UConn Kevin Ollie has widely been reported as Calhoun’s successor. However, Ollie’s agent, Bill Neff, cautioned HOOPSWORLD late Wednesday night that nothing was agreed to or in writing and that the way things were being written by other outlets were not how they were actually occurring.
