What do you think about Wale? I think he’s pretty good

Did you hear his latest mixtape? I feel it has some of the best music out right now. Here’s the link- http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/en/view-album/2423-more-about-nothing-%28mixed-by-dj-omega%29

Have you heard Lupe’s new song? Its pretty dope. And his “hype” is gone because they (His label) wont let him release Lasers yet which is pissing alot of people off. He is still a good rapper to me. But the fact that his album hasnt dropped yet when it was supposed to be dropped last year is crazy.

Wale is a joke he is not even from DC most of the stuff he is sayin about how he was in the hood and all the people he knows is a lie. The pretty girls song is actually a gogo song by Backyard Band and the man who sings the hook is a gogo legend named Winsey and Wale didnt even put him in the video…

I dunno about all that other stuff but Wale is a pretty good artist from what I hear.

He covered the song. Not a big deal in that aspect. I dunno about the whole video thing but it must’nt been a big deal since I didn’t really hear alot about it.

Unlike most DC cats, I don’t really like GoGo. I know if I said that in DC, I would probably get smacked. I go to a school in the DC area and all my friends love GoGo. I mean, a handful of GoGo songs are good, but I just don’t like most of them. Rap/Hip-Hop is way better IMO.

    J. Cole is probably the best new rapper out there. Him, jay electronica, wale, Asher Roth, are all breaths if fresh air in the corrupted “hip hop” we’ve had till recently. Lupe is still the truth, I don’t know how many of you heard his mixtape enemy of the state but it was easily the best mixtape of last year. He put that out because there were so many people almost feening to hear music from him. He actually is going to release an album called food and liquor 2 which is supposed to release next year web he initially said he was done after lasers. Eminem also re-established himself for what I believe to be the most talented rapper ever. That’s no disrespect to nas, biggie, 2pac and all those guys I just think that when eminem is focused (and in recovery) he definitely was that, he could destroy anyone whether they were in their prime or not. And please anyone thinking of dissing eminem, just don’t do it. It’ll be better for us all. J. Cole and jay electronica I believe will be the best rappers though in the next year or two. Listen for them

Here are the producers that produced Wale’s Pretty Girls. You can find them on soundclick. They make some really tight GoGo beats.

The Breakup Song, The War, The Breeze, and The Manipulation 2 were all dope.

imo, J. Cole is the best right now, and a few big steps ahead of everyone else.

+1 Wiz, Currensy gets slept on, big time.

I like these rappers that make sense when they put there words over a beat, none of that Soulja Boy, Wacka Flocka garbage.

I fully agree. Soulja Boy and Waka Flocka can’t rap for $hit and are ruining hip-hop. Waka Flocka even said he doesn’t care about his lyrics, he just cares about getting CruNK. That’s ridiculous. I like rappers that have great lyrics. Rapping is supposed to be a talent. The stuff Waka Flocka and Soulja Boy say, I can say. That shows how little lyrical abilty they have. If I can say the stuff you’re saying, then you’re not talented at rapping.

Diary by Wale is one of the better songs any current artist can claim man…That song is the truth. Also, Shade with Chrisette Michelle is nice too. Wale is an above average rapper to me, I don’t really care about personal stuff like if he really kills people, if he’s really from D.C. etc etc…Good music is good music to me

Also, Lupe Fiasco and B.O.B are legit as well

My favorite rappers are Prodigy from Mobb Deep, T.I., pre-808 Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, and Nas.

I personally feel that Prodigy is/was the most underrated MC out there. He didn’t have crazy punchlines that most people would look for, but he ould tell stories and he was really descriptive in his lyrics. “Hell on Earth” and “The Infamous” are Prodigy at his best, even though that is mid-90’s music

    Jk.

Anyways why you hyped up for TM 103. If he keeps droppin songs like All White everything then I’ll stop listenin to Jeezy.

Drake is good but he getting into singing now which is pointless because he has a nice flow imo.

    Rick Ross sucks. Point Blank.
I’d still take 50 cent over his ass.
Btw,listen to Problems, Lights Please, Can I live, Blow Up, and Who dat by J. Cole.

This week i’ve been kind of listening to Cudi alot with Mojo So dope, Mr. Rager, and Wylin Cuz im young.

My favs are Cudi, Cole, Cassidy, Lupe, Wale, Wiz Khalifa, Drake and B.o.B

Wale’s new mixtape is pretty dope, better than his album which was a dissapointment. Also check out the mixtape he put out with 9th Wonder (Wale’s best work so far IMO). I like him he’s overrated though If I hear him refered to as the savior of Hip-Hop one more time I will choke a bitch.

Heres a new artist for everyone who hasn’t heard him: Danny Brown. He’s from Detroit. He’s kinda on some gangsta shit, but his voice and flow is super unique, and his lyrics are extremely funny and clever. Some songs to check out are…Check out his song called Cyclopse, and his albums/mixtapes you can find em for free online. Trust me you will like him he’s like a breath of fresh air for real.

Idk i can’t hate on waka flocka and soulja boy too much cause if youre in the club that stuff just gets you amped man.

that being said, listening to that stuff on the radio is pretty wack. Soulja Boy and Waka Flocka are god awful lyricists.

Im not gonna spit a top 10 or anything but I love Kanye man. He is a great lyricist imo.

I also love listening to Common.

come on guys… antoine dodson is clearly on top of the hip hop world these days.

But seriously, I mostly find new rap stuff surfing NBA mixes… couple I watch every couple of days are Maino – All the Above ft T-Pain Kobe Bryant mix and the Derrick Rose mix with R.O.O.T.S. by Flo Rida.

Also, Kanye deserves a little cred, but I find he’s better when he only has one verse in a song ala Run this Town instead of his solo stuff.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like eminem’s new stuff?

    Jeez…

    First to 10 DOA.
    1. Nas (Its not really close, best who ever did it)
    2. Jay-z
    3. Big Pun
    4. Biggie
    5. Eminem
    6. Big L
    7. Lupe Fiasco
    8. Raekwon
    9. Jadakiss
    10. Busta Rhymes

I dont give a fuck about who’s new, who’s hot, who’s up and coming. Its about who makes/ has the best rap music. D Block and WU TANG all day. Ghostface, GZA, Method Man, and Rae spit better than any rapper not named Lupe. Mobb Deep has some ill lyrics, but they can get repetetive.

As for T.I., who’s better from Atlanta? I would only give Dre Three Stacks but thats it.

PS. Styles P came into my job yesterday, so I had to give him a shoutout. Told me to come his new book, “Invincible”. Styles writing a book is… interesting.

Tupac was extremely overrated, his flow was simplistic, his imagery rudimentary. People say he’s a poet, while so was everyone else that gave a damn. His metaphor, and use of literary devices were surpassed by many people. Honestly, I love Tupac the person because as a man he stood for many things I believe and/or appreciate, but as a rapper, he wasn’t better than say, Kool G Rap. KRS One is good for his early era. Rakim was better than all of them.

And you may want to recheck Busta’s entire discography. Just like Em ranks high because of his early work, Busta’s Anarchy, The Coming, Genesis, and It Aint Safe No More are goddamn classics. He’s so underrated its sad. he’s been around, making hits for almost two decades and gets no respect. He flat spits.

Impact, doesnt make you the best lyricist. I have over 8000 songs, 6500 rap. I have all of Tupac’s albums and I’ve listened to all of them quite extensively, especially through high school. Its my opinion, so calm the fuck down Canada. I’m just giving respect to an artist that clearly deserves it, you’re just jocking the guy and attacking me.

And add When Disaster Strikes for Busta.

To illustrate the impact point, who’s been more impactful for making rap the cashcow it is more than Wayne and 50? Where would you rank them?

I honestly do not know much about him, I have some stuff he did with 9th Wonder and it is pretty decent. I guess I should listen up more, I just know I was not really feeling the song he did with Lady Gaga that got radio airplay, and luckily I do not really have to drive to work and listen to the radio anymore :).

These are some of my favorite producers (aka if this person has a track with someone, I am very happy to listen to it):
    1) DJ Premier (anything with Premo I will listen to, best of all time to me, GangStarr is my favorite group ever)
    2) Dilla (RIP)
    3) Pete Rock
    4) 9th Wonder (Justus League producers basically, and I am sure the Elite 11 soundtrack will be awesome, while the game will pale in comparison to 2k11)
    5) Large Professor
    6) Timbo (anything he produces is worth a listen, done some of the best Jay-Z songs in my opinion)
    7) Nicolay (His instrumentals are sick, and love The Foreign Exchange)
    8) Madlib
    9) Hi-Tek
    10) Marley Marl 9Would be higher on my list of all-time greats, but this is not that list)
    11) Just Blaze
    12) Danger Mouse or MF Doom
    13) Rjd2
    14) Alchemist
    15) Prince Paul

Guys who everyone knows super well and may dislike:
    1) Dr. Dre (One of the best PRODUCERS (not rappers) ever, even if I am kind of sick of hearing about Detox and his attitude towards his artists/perfectionism)
    2) Kanye West (Is an all out great producer, though I definitely got as sick of him as most other people. He has made some monster tracks, and while he is not really my favorite MC, he has made a lot of good music during his time in Hip-Hop)
    3) Neptunes/Skateboard P (Used to be adamantly against them, but I give them a lot of credits. Have made some monster hits and some very good tracks)
    4) RZA (one of the best ever)
    5) Salaam Remi (Produced huge tracks on great albums and some monster street tracks)

DJ Quik also is a personal favorite, some great beats.

So, now that we have some of the best beats for people to rap over, I will give you a list of some of my personal favorite MC’s, in close to order:

    1) Notorious BIG
    2) KRS-One (my favorite Live MC)
    3) Rakim
    4) Nas
    5) Jay-Z
    6) Big Daddy Kane
    7) Talib Kweli/Mos Def
    8) Common
    9) Kool G Rap
    10) Eminem
    11) Tupac
    12) Slick Rick
    13) Guru
    14) Black Thought
    15) Big Pun
    16) Big L
    17) Gza
    18) Method Man
    19) Redman
    20) Chuck D
    21) Run and DMC
    22) Q-Tip/Phife
    23) Royce Da 5’9
    24) Phonte
    25) Canibus
    26) LL Cool J (Got ya L, lol)
    27) Jadakiss (well, all of the Lox, but Jada is the best)
    28) Anyone on Year Round Records 🙂 (Blaq Poet, NYG’z, and I am hoping Nick Javas brings it)
    29) Aceyalone
    30) Del (anyone Hiero)
    31) Bun B (should be much higher on an actual list and Trill OG is a beast)
    32) Lil’Fame and Billy Danze (MOP)
    33) Freddie Foxxx aka Bumpy Knucks
    34) Jeru the Damaja
    35) Afu-Ra
    36) Raekwon
    37) Ghostface Killah
    38) Elzhi
    39) Ice Cube
    40) Buckshot
    41) MURs (though I listen to him a lot more than people ahead of him on this list)
    42) Scarface
    43) Jean Grae
    44) Lady of Rage
    45) Lauryn Hill
    46) MC Lyte
    47) Kurupt
    48) Posdnuos (De La Soul)
    49) Dre/Big Boi
    50) Skillz

This is not an all-time list, but a list of hip hop artists that I listen too on a consistent basis (like, in a given week, probably touch on most of the list). I have left many out, but I just wanted to give some idea of the hip-hop I enjoy listening too, and maybe stuff for people to check out.

Pac and Biggie wrote the mauscript for all these other rappers… Nobody spit with the passion that Pac displayed, the weight in his lyrics changed the GAME… When he got on that THug LIFe shit, he shut the game down… He may not have been the best lyricist but he had the best music.. He set the trend all these “thug rappers” emulate.. BTW best CD of all time Machiavelli the Don…

I would have assumed alot of you were mohawk-having, insane-piercing, birdman tattoo-having, death-metal-rock-listening, bunch of hillbillies

What is up with these guys? Man, and I watched the apology videos too (well, Lil’B’s was 9 mins, so I just got the gist of the first little bit) and have to say, what? These guys have serious issues. I mean, it is kind of funny, because he keeps saying the punch didn’t hurt, but it looks like he wants to cry. Gold teeth are hella played out. Why do people wear stickers on their fitteds? I have never heard of Lil’ B or Lil’ Nico, but for them to say they are trying to push positivity and educate is like saying a slug is teaching Usain Bolt how to run track. Just not really happening. Speaking of slugs, I forgot to mention Slug (Atmosphere), Brother Ali, RA the Rugged Man, Ill Bill/Non Phixion/La Coka Nostra and even Busta Rhymes. Brother Ali is one I highly recommend if you would like to learn something, though all of the above listed MC’s can teach you things (even Busta once in a while).

and mikey i have no idea, i hate them to be honest i just think the “thank you based god” pictures are funny(and i hope they didnt offend anybody) besides that i think he is wack. Like you said he tries to claim he is a positive mc then he shoots a video in a church with lyrics about H**s, calling himself a pretty b**** and comparing himself to Jesus, but hey he still has fans so i guess he can live with himself for it

Hey, as long as he is selling records I guess that is fine, and people have done worse, I just have to say I am not on the band wagon. Plus, how many times can you see “You feel me” in an apology without the other person thinking it is a pick-up line? They kept saying “Bred” or something like that, did they mean ‘brother” or “bro” or the even weirder version being “bra”? Well, they think they are too cool for school, but I’ve got a newsflash for them Walter Cronkite, they aren’t (I hope people get the reference, lol). Just a lot of people that come out seem to be doing the same thing, calling themselves Lil’Insert absurd name or letter here and doing videos about doing some dance that was cool in the 60’s. Next thing you know they’ll be doing the damn sprinkler or shopping cart! I am not hating on people for listening to it, or them for having fans, but i can still think it is mildly absurd. Nonetheless, it tends to crack me up when they have their mini beefs and talk about haters/boosting up their people. If they really wanted to do that, than they would not spend so damn much time talking about the people that hate them and maybe, I don’t know, lived their lives? At least give it a shot, you would be going against the grain, that is cool 🙂

“Kanye, Drake, Em, T.I., Wale, Jeezy, Cudi, Ross, Fab and then Wiz” Knicksboys Top 10)

Only good rappers there are Emenim and T.I. Fab used to have some nice lyrics but fell off, Kanye used to have som amazing songs and fell off, the rest just plain suck.

How dare you. Cudi and Wale got like 8 of the top 10 best songs right now. Drake is alright. Kanye had one non-hip hop album. He alright. Wiz and Ross are alright as well. You need to listen before stating incorrect facts friend.

I did not really listen to Lupe after “Fiasco Gate”:
    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1571748/20071011/fiasco__lupe.jhtml

I hear his new stuff is good, and I did listen to him for a while and like some of his stuff, but I thought the way he handled that situation was very weak and lead me to dislike him. He acts like ATCQ, but they had no effect on him? Even subliminally, he has to know that they are a group that built onto his whole style. The least he could do would be prepared for the damn show, as an MC, even if he did not listen to them or want to do it. I should give him another chance, but something about that situation really rubbed me the wrong way and it made me feel he was kind of a fraud. It kind of made it seem like his consciousness and intellectual persona was a little phony. Those are harsh words, but that was just how I felt back when it happened. That was just at the time mind you, and I am sure I can forgive and forget. His name always did make him sound like a Spanish cleaning lady too, But, I can respect that many do think he is a very strong MC.

“Dumb it down”, where he is claiming he is educating youth and getting kids interested in school and such, right after he said all the dumb $hit about ATCQ. Way to be an “edutainer” Lupe. Next thing he would say is “I did not listen to KRS and BDP, I listened to Lil’B and Lil’Nico!” 🙂

To say someone has 8 of the to 10 songs right no isnt saying much, especially when you are talking about comemrcial media rap. Neither Wale or Cudi will ever crack the Top 250 Rap song list.

Props to the dude who mentioned talib Kweli. I like Mos Def too, even though he’s deep into acting now.

Is one of the best lyricists ever. For instance: “My entire body is a spiritual facility, where I confess after my lyrical killing spree…” Just, wow. That on the song “The Perfect Beat” off of Ear Drum, and I can only find the concert version on youtube with he and KRS, where KRS just freestyles and Kweli does not do his second verse where he goes crazy! KRS is my favorite MC, this track is a personal favorite.

I love this cat, hardcore to the bone. An old Sicilian saying goes, “A man has to be like an olive, hard on the inside and soft on the outside.” That’s exactly how KRS-One is, the guy’s polite, friendly and smart but he won’t hesitate a second to drop you on your ass and end your career. Alot of the younger cats don’t really know what he’s all about and that’s a shame. On the other hand I can understand a 45 year old adult rapper doesn’t appeal as much to a teenager as “Lil’ Brain”.

“Quality” by Talib Kweli is legit. That’s the one with “Get By” on it. Get By is one of the more underrated rap songs ever made IMO
