I know he is coming off a major surgery, but damn he’s struggling big time. Nuggets scored 80 points in the paint tonight(not making that up). Obviously not all on Dwight, but he sure as he’ll hasn’t been a defensive stopper. He had 3 stupid goal tends tonight where he blocked it ad it was clearly on the way down just giving up 2 points instead of it maybe missing. He also had about 4-5 plays where he went for a block that he had no chance of getting and his man go the offensive rebound and put back. At the other end he shot 3-14 ft’s and was just making impossible to go to him. Meanwhile Kobe scores 29 on over 50% shooting with 9 assists after dropping 78 points in the last 2 games vs Dallas and Portland and people want to blame him. Where is the Dwight criticism? I thought he was an MVP caliber talent? Why dies he not get called out for this disaster of a season more

He only stood out as the centres of today are weak.

If he played back in the 90’s I would rank him below.

    Hakeem
    Ewing
    Robinson
    Shaq

He is prob even with Alonzo

Howard isn’t playing well, that’s obvious. I’m not sure he should be “blamed” though. He’s had many physical problems and isn’t nearly as athletic as he used to be. The other day, he miserably missed an alley-hoop: he thought he could dunk the ball, but only managed to smash it laterally against the rim. Pretty pathetic. Howard’s game is all about athleticism, so he’s struggling big time.

As for the FT, he’s bad at it, period. Nash can’t jump, Howard can’t shoot FT. Too bad, but what can he do?

Javale McGee blocked Dwight Howard like you do your little brother lol.

While I think he deserves blame, I think it’s wrong to put the majority of the blame on him though Perez. He’s coming off of a MAJOR back injury. There was no way for him to get into proper conditioning with that injury and surgery. He came back early. It’s clear his conditioning and athleticism (speed, quickness, reaction speed and overall explosion) just hasn’t been there. He’s gotten dunked on more times this season than any other season.

What I will blame Dwight for is his free-throw shooting and his mentality. I feel he’s weak minded. I mean, I guess we can blame him for not working on his game enough in the past to be able to still be a great player after this type of an injury.

I don’t know… It’s been a mess though. I wonder would the Lakers be making a mistake putting the franchise in his hands going forward.

It’s all about the injuries, the back one mainly. You could tell how bad it was in Orlando and then he had surgery. The Lakers rushed him back because they wanted to get their 4 HOF product on the floor. His athleticism that made him special isn’t there right now and that doesn’t just disappear. Hopefully he can fully recover this offseason, he was a specimen.

Dude, athleticism can def disappear after a serious injury. Ever heard of Larry Johnson? That guy was an absolute specimen and then once he injured his back he was never the same. I really don’t know if we will ever see the Dwight Howard that dominated the NBA from 2008-2010. He is still capable of exploding every now and then, but the consistency is gone and I wonder if it will ever return.

Dwight has been a tragic disappointment this year, and imo will go down as one of the most mentally fragile players of my generation.

If the Lakers give him a max contract they could be setting themselves back for many years. The loss of one the best owners in sports is tough enough… maxing out an injured, uninspired player will absolutely kill the Lakers if Dwight isn’t able to get back to his previous form.

You give a guy a max contract that till this day hasn’t learned a decent post game as a big man.

If roy hibbert is a maxplayer Dwight is for sure a maxplayer. The bad season Dwight is having is because of the back injuiry, the guy was not supposed to be back until now, plus i he would have been out of shape for midseason baskeball had he been one. imo if i am the lakers or laker fan i would be happy with the season dwight is having compare with not having him at all.

Roy Hibbert max money isn’t comparable to the max money Dwight Howard is about to command.

How will Andre Drummond come back next year after injuring his back? Someone mentioned Larry Johnson on this thread prior to his injury and yes he was an absolute MONSTER before he got injured. Its a shame and I hope Drummond doesnt lose a step next year.

Drummond’s injury is not as serious as Dwight’s nor Larry Johnson’s. I think Drummond will come back strong, just a minor hick-up
