gopack10ParticipantThen I hope my Hawks oblige him. This team is in need of a shakeup. Since the Lakers are in a wheel and deal type of mood it seems then I saw we offer up something like this.
Hawks Get:
Metta World Peace
Steve Blake
Devin Ebanks
Lakers 1st Round Pick (from Dallas)
Lakers Get:
Marvin Williams
Kirk Hinrich
It works for the Hawks because they save around $4 million in salaries this year, get another first round pick to possibly package with their existing picks to possibly move up in this draft all the while keeping ourselves competitive in the East this year and truthfully in no worse position than we were before the trade. Ebanks is a throw in just in case we decide to amnesty Ron-Ron this summer.
It works for the Lakers because they solve their two biggest needs. They get a young athletic SF to play alongside the 7 footers and Kobe, they get a backup PG that can actually play defense and they rid themselves of World Peace. The Lakers haven’t really utilitzed their first round picks these last few years and since they have two this year giving up one won’t be that big of a deal.
Thoughts?

fliptonnParticipantthey might be a little hesitant to trade hinrich but im sure steve blake could hold his own on that team with teague around.

gopack10ParticipantHe is a quality backup PG in this leage and could start for a few teams. The Hawks will have issues at the backup PG spot next year since I believe that Hinrich will want too much dough for Hawks’ ownership and with the addition of Blake that position is solved for the next few years.
World Peace is good for the Hawks because he will provide better D than Marvin and will be happy with his touches since he will get more than he is currently getting in LA. I like Ebanks as a backup SF but he is behind two better guys in LA and doesn’t get the chance. He will have that opportunity in ATL after this year. With the two first rounders the Hawks could package both of them and move up and take an impact player to go alongside Joe, Josh, Al and Jeff.
A Center would be the best bet but a big time SF wouldn’t be too bad either.
I really don’t have to explain why this trade wors for LA because they get upgrades at both of those positions and really only lost a 1st rounder and Ebanks. They take on some salary but it won’t matter in Lakerland.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI want to see Marvin on another team to get a better feel for his game, it’s been over 6 years and I am still unclear about what he’s good at besides being a good athlete at 6’8. A change of scenery would be good for him.

JonOatsParticipantSince that’s the real weakness I don’t know if it’s worth losing that 1st rounder for a slight upgrade (maybe) at pg and a question mark at SF. The Lakers would get rid of MWP’s contract and still be able to amnesty off Luke Walton, but I don’t think it would improve the team that much this season. If LA can’t get a legit starting PG before the deadline, I think holding onto the picks and reworking the roster during the off season would get them more value.

atlienkevParticipantdo not want.
imagine josh smith AND artest jacking ill-advised jumpers…

JaeEvolutionParticipantRon Artest though? Everytime I watch the Lakers I cringe when Artest is asked to do anything offensively, he is shooting 33% for the SEASON that is absolutely horrendous. Marvin Williams is actually shooting career numbers from 3 this season and is rebounding at a good rate, and Kirk just came back do we really want to trade two of our better trade assets and only get back lower level players? It’s basically a huge downgrade for the Hawks in every aspect not to mention those guys are both 30 and are tied to 3 year contracts, no thanks.
I would like to see Marvin moved however, just not for those pieces and with the recent struggles of the Hawks and complaining of a few players, I 100% expect the Hawks to make a trade before the deadline.

TRC1991Participanthawks get absolutely nothing in this trade aside from the $4 mil in cap space

gopack10ParticipantClearly neither of you follow the Hawks very much. Marvin isn’t some wonderful asset that we can use to leverage an impact player from another team. Let’s be realistic here.
The Hawks don’t look the same with Kirk back in the fold and his expiring contract should at least net us something. Marvin is Marvin. He won’t flourish on another team but he needs a change of scenery to see if he can reach his full potential. Artest is a similar player in that he needs a change of scenery. I think his shooting problems stem from the fact that he doesn’t fit in to what the Lakers are trying to do on offense. He is still every bit the defender that Marvin is.
We do not have a backup PG beyond this year and I don’t want to wast a draft pick on one either. Adding Blake takes care of that question mark for the next three years. Even though we look like a deep team right now, you have to remember that T-Mac, Green, Pargo, Vlad-Rad, Jason Collins and Eric Dampier are all on one year deals. That’s a lot of roster spots to fill up and two first round picks along with Ebanks to fill them is just what we need. Not to mention the Suns 2nd rounder that we own that will likely be a high pick.
Oh and there is the fact that the Hawks’ ownership group loves to save money. This deal saves them money for the rest of this year but it also saves them money next year as I see us amnestying Artest at season’s end.
This isn’t your ordinary team here. This is the Hawks and this deal makes us no worse this season but puts us in a better position both roster wise and salary cap wise headed into next year.

PulseGlazerParticipantSince you can’t amnesty traded for players, why would the Hawks do this? They get far more from simply using the amnesty clause on Marvin in the offseason and keeping Hinrich over the Lakers ineffective flotsam.

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe Hawks would be better off sending Marvin and Hinrich to the Hornets for Ariza and Kamen. Loved to see Marvin in a situation where he could get 20 shots.
And the Hawks would have a formidable frontcourt of Ariza, Smith and Kamen. And if they can keep Kamen for Horford when he get’s back that allows Horford to move back to his natural PF and Josh Slim Smith back to his natural SF. A starting 5 of Jeff Teague, Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, and Chris Kamen spells trouble for the East.

gopack10ParticipantI thought that you just couldn’t amnesty them during the year in which they are traded. I may be wrong about this since I haven’t really looked into it. That would change this scenario a little but not much. I would probably just require that the Lakers throw in the rights to Derrick Character or a 2nd round pick. The Hawks still save money this year and next year on Ron’s contract over Marv’s.
@19134 – I like that trade for the Hawks too but I’m not so sure that the Hornets would go for it. I think they could get more assets for Kaman and Ariza than Marv and Hinrich. If we threw in a 1st rounder next year and Ivan Johnson I could see it being more attractive to them. I’ve wanted the Hawks to trade for Kaman for about three years now and put him beside Al and Smooth in our frontcourt.

HitsterParticipantMWP would give the Hawks extra defensive presence and his experience could be huge in the play-offs. If the Lakers threw in a pick I agree it gives the Hawks trade up options or they can go double in a fairly loaded draft.
Hinrich is a hard worker who Kobe would like alongside him and Marvin would get to play his same role on a bigger stage and the Lakers get younger with him instead of MWP.
The NOH deal works well as Atlanta get a legit C who could allow Horford and Smith to move across or Ariza is a direct replacement for Williams. NOH could save salary as Williams has a future team option whilst Ariza in the same year has a player’s option and Williams would play a bigger offensive role with NOH.

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe Hornets werent able to get anybody to bite on a Kamen trade and he’s leaving after the year. So I look at it like trading Kamen for Hinrich who the Hornets could use and maybe even turn him back into a legit starting PG but if anything he comes off the books after the year anyway. And then Ariza for Williams is a no brainer for the Hornets from a value standpoint. Williams is the type of risk reward the Hornets would and need to take. I still think in the right situation with more responsibility he could become a Deng type factor that plays solid D and uses his athleticism to slash while opening the floor with his smooth mid range jumper.

TyroberParticipantWhy would the Hawks do this? I am sure a deal could be centered around Josh Smith and Teague for Gasol.

NYK2010ParticipantIs this deal just a Lakers fans trying to add players w/out giving up anything.
A late 1st rounder, Steve Blake and Metta really.

KHAM83ParticipantI’ve been wanting Kaman in Atl for years as well, and I’m thinking Hinrich plus Marvin for Kaman will suffice. Atlanta cannot take on Ariza because of salaries and management really refuses to go over the luxury tax line. Either way I think this is a fair deal. Thinking the Hornets will then amnesty Ariza.

HitsterParticipantWith the talk about the Lakers wanting Ramon Sessions then could they use the Odom exception and take Jamieson and Sessions for MWP, Fisher and a first rounder. The Lakers get a proven scorer in Jamieson who they can renew and use as a versatile SF/PF and Sessions who is a PG upgrade. The Cavs take on MWP’s deal and so get an extra pick which will give them options in rebuilding and they could either look to buy him out and probably buy out Fisher so the cash hit won’t be too great.
