Edit MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 videos

Edit MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 videos to Final Cut Pro 7/X, FCE on Mac

Summary:If you are looking for the best way to transcode MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 videos to ProRes MOV for FCP 7/X and FCE, you can follow this post, it has offered best solutions for editing MPEG videos on Mac in Final Cut Pro 7/X, Final Cut Express.

http://www.pavtube.com/guide/convert-mxf-to-avi-wmv-mov-mp4-mpeg-on-mac....

Cases:

The following are two problems when some users import MPEG-1/MPEG-2 to Final Cut:

"I am trying to import MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Pro X. I have the raw files from a Sony Handicam HDR-SR5 as well as raw files from an Sony Handicam MDR-CX560. These files were recorded as MPEG-2 files and copied from the camera hard drives (entire folders were copied containind the MPEG-2 fies) to a local hard drive on my computer. Final Cut Pro X does not recognize the files and will not import them. I have tried to use Compressor to conver the fies. I am using the very latest version that touts being able to export to Final Cut X format. I don't see that option anywhere in the settings."

Question:

Is there a way to get MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Pro X without having to convert them?

Answer:

Don't try to work with (highly compressed) MPEG 2 in FCP X. Use software to convert to ProRes 422 first, it's best codec for final cut pro or final cut express. Life will be much easier for you if you do. ProRes 422 is roughly between 5 and 8 times bigger than native camera footage - sometimes as much as 10 times, I believe, but it's well worth it for editing, effects and playback quality. The time required depends largely on your processor power but 30 mins sounds realistic.

Software you need:

Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac

This software can convert MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Apple ProRes 422 codec for Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Expr editing without rendering.

Step by step guide:

1. Download and install the best MPEG1/MPEG2 to ProRes Converter and launch it to add your videos to it.

2. Choose output format. Click on the “Format”> Final Cut Pro, Apple PreRes 422(HQ), Apple PreRes 422, Apple ProRes 422(LT), etc are all the proper choice for you.

3. Click "Settings" to adjust the parameters as you want, like Video Codec, bit rate, frame rate, Audio codec, sample rate, bit rate, channels. Set the video frame rate as 30fps, video size as 1920*1080 will be better.

4. Click Convert button to start MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Final Cut friendly Apple ProRes 422 for native editing on Mac OS X.

5. When the conversion ends, you can run the Final Cut Pro and click File --> Import --> Files to import the resulted MOV files and edit them in FCP easily, you can follow this import video to fcp guide.

From the steps above, I think you got the point to convert and import MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files to Apple ProRes 422 for Final Cut editing, please have a try, this software will solve you MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 importing and editing problems, and then you can import and use your MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 in Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Express on Mac without any problems.

http://www.brorsoft.com/mts-converter/index.html

On the eve of CES, longtime optics heavyweight Canon announced three new camcorders for its VIXIA HF R product line. They are HF R42, R40 and R400. They all feature a 53x advanced zoom, a DIGIC DV IV image processor and a 3.28-megapixel full HD CMOS image sensor. In addition, these movie-makers capture HD MP4s at up to 35Mbps and AVCHD progressive 60p recordings that tops out at 28Mbps. Further adding to its software suite, the company is introducing its CameraAccess app (Android and iOS) with video streaming, sharing and remote control for the HR40 and HR42.

AVCHD Progressive is a very popular format for us, it is the upgrade of AVCHD(MTS/M2TS). It is not a standard format for many non-linear editors including Final Cut Pro 7. It menas that if you have shot some 60p AVCHD progressive recordings and try to import to FCP 7 with Log and Transfer, you will see nothing clip in L&T window. Because L&T plaugin doesn't support to transcode or directly import the 60p AVCHD to Final Cut Pro for editing. Then what is the best solution to importing Canon VIXIA HF R40/HF R42/HF R400 AVCHD progressive video to FCP 7?

http://www.brorsoft.com/how-to/importing-canon-vixia-hf-r40-hf-r42-hf-r4...

As we all know FCP's native video format is Apple ProRes, if we reformat AVCHD to ProRes, we will can easily transfer it to FCP7 without any plugin. Step 1: Launch the sofware to load your 1080 60p MTS to it for converting.

Step 2: Click the format bar, and move the mouse pointer to Final Cut Pro profile, you will see several Apple ProRes formats like Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 HQ, which are the proper choices.

Step 3: You can click the “Settings” icon to freely set video resolution, frame rate, bitrate, etc freely. Since you got 1080 60p AVCHD file, you need to change the frame rate to 30fps.

Step 4: After the settings, please click Convert button to start transcoding MTS to ProRes .mov for Final Cut Pro 7 on Mac OS X.

http://www.brorsoft.com/mts-converter-mac/index.html

Once the conversion finished, you can get the converted video via clicking the Open button. Afterwards, you can import 1080 60p AVCHD from Canon VIXIA HF R40/HF R42/HF R400 to FCP 7 without any issue.

How to Get Canon EOS 6D MOV to be compatible with Avid&Premiere

How to Get Canon EOS 6D MOV to be compatible with Avid & Adobe Premiere?

Canon's EOS 6D is the company's first 'affordable' full frame DSLR, equipped with a newly designed 20.2 Megapixel sensor, while can offer users exceptionally high image quality and detail while providing compatibility and convenience through its design and features. The 6D can record 1920 x 1080 HD video with the standard H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec at 25 and 30 fps or 1280 x 720 HD video at 60 and 50 fps. When recording HD video, full manual control over exposure and sound is possible, enabling you to take complete control over the final appearance of your movies.

http://www.pavtube.com/canon-camera-file-transcode.html

Though this new 6D comes with outstanding video recording and shooting ability, there is a problem that H.264 MOV footages are not compatible with Avid or Adobe Premiere for editing. This is because the HD MOV clips are encoded in H.264 codec, a most advanced codec that compresses video in highest compression ratio, but not so acceptable for editing software such as Avid, Sony Vegas, and Adobe Premiere. Generally speaking, editing software prefer AVI, WMV, MPG to H.264 encoded MOV, MTS, TOD footage. The following passage guides you how to convert Canon EOS 6D MOV footages to MOV/WMV video for editing.

Step 2. Set MOV or WMV format as output format for editing.

Select "Avid DNxHD 1080p(*.mov)" under Avid Media Composer catalog for editing MOV in Avid.

Choose "WMV (VC-1) (*.wmv)" under Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas for MOV to Premiere importing.

Step 3. Adjust video and audio settings to keep 1080p HD quality

Click "Settings" button, then you will be able to adjust audio and video parameters on the popup window to customize the output file quality, these adjustable parameters include codec name, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, and audio channel.

To maintain original HD quality, you may set "original" in the fields of "Size", "Bitrate" and "Frame rate".

To downsize the Canon 6D .mov files, just set a smaller bitrate.

Step 4. Click "Convert" button to convert Canon 6D MOV files to HD MOV/WMV.

http://www.pavtube.com/guide/convert-canon-eos-60d-mov-to-avi-wmv-hd-vid...

Once the conversion is finished by Canon 6D MOV to Avid/Preniere Converter, you can click "Open" button to get the output files effortlessly. Now you have got it right, just import and edit Canon 6D MOV files in Avid Media Composer & Adobe Premiere.
