James McAdoo
I don't think so. If you break down his game, what about it says that he's a future star? I think he's settled in as a PF (after mistakenly being labeled as a combo forward) in which case his size is just ok for the position. He's a good, not amazing athlete. His skill level is not impressive (I'd say a little underwhelming given a player with his hype and pedigree). You can't really classify him as a face up or post up PF because he's not a good shooter and doesn't really show advanced moves in the post. I can't see him transitioning to SF because his ball skills are not good, he doesn't have range on his jumper and because I don't think he's quick enough laterally to consistently guard wings. To me he projects to be a smart, energy guy who knows how to move without the ball, finish and make athletic plays. That sounds like a pretty good player, but not a star, not a go-to player and not worthy of a number 1 pick IMO.
that is exactly what i see.
This except I do think he'll be able to guard wings capably at the next level. His skill level is low, as mentioned above, but he has really nice touch in the paint. I guess it just depends on how much he improved over the offseason, but you don't often see average sized PF's that aren't elite athletes go #1, especially without any other elite trait.
His skillset is somewhat unrefined but I completely disagree that he's just a good athlete.
McAdoo is a freak athlete. Easily one of the most athletic 6'9 players I have ever seen. I could see him being a top 3 athlete at the PF position when he gets to the NBA.
Definately top 5 pick potential, but extremely unlikely he would go #1. Inconsistent play last year and questionable skills.
What if he has a big year this year? He is undersized but has a huge wingspan(7'1 I believe)...
Shabazz is still my choice to go numer 1....
But I dont think its fair to say McAdoo cant be a star at the next level, becuz last season becuz of a lack of playing time..He didnt a chance to get comfortable on the court to show what he's really capable of doing.. Alot of nba people are very high on him, there were some reports that a few teams would've taken him over Harrison Barnes.....
He's my pick for Player of the Year.....
I'm eager to see how much Willie Cauley-Stein improves by the end of the season..Right now he's still raw and learning how to play..But by the end of the year,he might be a much totally different player....He's more offensive minded than Nerlens Noel..And the way he gets up & down the court, ability to get steals, pass and block shots is impressive....Cauley-Stein might make his way into the top 10,if he keeps improving...
I wasn't too sold on the Cauley-Stein hype, but he played well, and him playing more minutes then Noel last game definitely surprised me. It's obviously only one game (though I've been preaching how overrated he is for awhile) but I think Noel could have a very disappointing overall season offesnively for UK.
Let's see how he does this year. He'll be UNC's go to guy, and he has another year of expierence, you got to think he has improved, it's just a matter how much he's added to his game. If he improves his post game and jump shot he could be in contention for the number 1 pick depending on who is picking, but prolly not since he's undersized and prolly won't be a guy who carries a title contending team.
I don't see him going higher than four. This can change of course since its so early. Right now I have him 5th.. Behind Shabazz, Zeller, Nerlens and Tony Mitchell. And at Y2G were you expecting much out of Nerlens offensively?
I expected 9-11 ppg, but he might not even get that.
there's mcadoo with 14p and 10r already, in toadays game
McAdoo just needs to find a niche on offense and he is star. Despite what someone said here, he is a freak athlete and ridicously quick. It is hard for opposing PF's to guard him because of his quickness. He is also very strong. The pieces are there, he just needs to find a consistant offensive move and he can be something special. His game is very similar to Thomas Robinson's.
i really like mcadoo, hes a great player. i think depending on how shabazz does this year, mcadoo could be the first pick. the bigs this year i think are lacking the intrigue to be the 1st pick. mcadoo has a really strong body and a good skill set and he seems to be embracing the leadership role at unc.

Does anyone think he has a chance to be the number on pick in the draft? I just think he has the potential to be a star.
