F_DA_POParticipantWhy is this guy still projected in the top 10 in a few mocks I’ve seen by people like ESPN? He played like trash this year and looks irrelevent in the tourney. He couldn’t even match up against MAC Ohio U players and I’m pretty sure he is taller than all of them.

JoeWolf1In his defense he’s played a lot better lately.
It’s the same reason Thomas Robinson was being considered ahead of both Morris’ last season in a few mocks. People see the player he can become due to his size and athletic ability and he hasn’t gotten enough minutes to cast a lot of doubt. You can pin a bad game on the fact that he’s only played 15 mpg on the year and justify him not starting because he is playing behind 2 more polished NBA first rounders.
If he comes back and tears it up next year, he’ll probably be projected in the top 5-8 and either cement his spot there by playing at an All-American level or drop like former Tar Heel Ed Davis who came back, improved, but didn’t dominate like many had thought.

akhan786ParticipantI love this kid. Have you not seen the games he started in when John Henson was out?
The potential is oozing out of him and imo could be the best pro on this pro laden UNC team.
He was obviously affected without Kendall Marshall because the tempo went down last night.
He’ll thrive in an uptempo system in the NBA. Can see him excelling with the Suns.

KDThunder35ParticipantHis basketball IQ is very low. I saw him drive the lane and as soon as he got stopped he just got rid of the ball like a hot potatoe. His pass went right into the chest of Offutt on Ohio who wasn’t expecting that bad of a pass.
Even though he gets in the passing lane and gets those steals and dunks, the other 50-65% he misses and is out of position. This gets covered up because his man will run into Zeller or Henson.
I am not high on this kid at all. The athletic tools are definitely there, but the skill set has a LONG way to go.

HadzialijagicParticipantHes got an ok handle a decent midrange jump shot. He is a crazy athlete that can board and defend and he has a high motor. He has work to do but he has got a lot of potential.

HaleParticipantHe’s played well lately but I definitely wouldn’t want to use a lottery pick on him this year. He’s shown no ability to play the wing and has looked lost out there quite a bit. He’s playing better but he’s still inefficient as a scorer, and he needs to come back. If he does I could see him having a Thomas Robinson type rise for UNC and be like a 16-18 ppg 7-10 rpg guy. To be honest I’m really curious how UNC is going to be next year with 4 starters leaving and possibly Bullock going as well (if he keeps playing so well the rest of the tourney his stock will be as high as it’s ever been).

nbafan7898ParticipantJames McAdoo when he settles down and plays within himself is a monster. He played very well in the games he had to start in without Henson. I think coming off the bench has been a bit of a psycological monster for him, because he does look nervous out there. I think next year he will be a 15 point, 8 rebound guy if Henson goes pro, and you all will see someone with unlimited potential. He is a freak athlete with a lot of strength. You need to watch his dunk against Vermont. If I am Coach Williams in the off-season I have him watch tape of Thomas Robinson 24/7, because they are very similar players.

JoeWolf1^Where do you get tweener? He can’t shoot nor does he have much of a perimeter game , he excels on the block and in transition and is 6’9”. That seems like a PF to me, not a tweener. What’s your logic?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/24/2012 - 8:15am #650662

Malik-UniversalParticipanthes very very talented but a tweener at the same time
at this point he does nothing good but nothing bad
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/24/2012 - 8:53am #650672

Malik-UniversalParticipanti feel he can develop some perimeter skills…. as of now, hes better on the block
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/24/2012 - 9:04am #650676
HadzialijagicParticipantHe is a longer and more athletic Derrick Williams. Now he needs to develop the skills Derrick had coming out.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/24/2012 - 9:06am #650677

JNixonParticipantHe’s not good to me right now. He’s played bad every UNC game Ive watched. He’s a decent athlete with size, but he has ALOT of work to do.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/24/2012 - 9:23am #650687

F_DA_POParticipantDerrick Williams? No…. It seems he has no range whatsoever. He’s definitely a tweener. He looks too weak to be a PF and his skill set seems more like a SF. How can a SF succeed in the NBA if they don’t have a jump shot? How can a PF succeed in the NBA if they have no post game? Sounds like Darius Miles all over again. I don’t care if I’m negged cuz I know I’ll be right about this guy 5 years from now. I continue to make predictions that get negged yet they come true a year later. It’s funny.
Someone explain to me how 42% shooting (no 3 point attempts) 62% FT shooting and averaging as many shot attempts as points is impressive for a top 3 recruit out of high school? SMH…. some of you are too in love with prospects.

HaleParticipantDerrick Williams isn’t a terrible shooter. He’s not great but he’s decent. McAdoo’s shot is pretty bad right now. I think he’s a better athlete then JNixon gave him credit for, but he really needs a lot of work. Williams is a far better athlete then McAdoo is as well.

surveParticipantRoy was not playing McAdoo very much early in the season. His PT picked up when Strickland went out, then he started when Henson went out. He has progressed a lot but you have not seen the best of his potential mainly because he just didnt play much early. I mean a lot of games he didnt even play 10 min.

Malik-UniversalParticipantmcado doesnt yet have the body of a legit nba power forward hes only around 230…. but like i said as of now hes a PF in college…. he can develop perimeter skills a lot easier if he stays in school

uknationParticipantHe played ok with Henson out but in no way showed he will be a better pro than anyone the other top UNC players. He’s a 6’8 PF with a inconsistent jumper and isn’t that strong. What about him screams future very good player? Can’t play SF that’s for sure
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/24/2012 - 2:58pm #650806

makeitrain21ParticipantWait till next year when gets comfortable and isn’t playing behind Henson. He can play 3, and I guarantee he will be a top 3 pick next year.

Ghost01ParticipantThe same reason Marvin Williams went #2 and Ed Davis would have went top 5 had he declared in 2009…

Imagine if Royce White played for UNC. Or even William Barton.
