Two of the most intriguing forwards in this draft in my mind, my question is, what forward spot will they play in the NBA? Are they both SF? Both guys are as raw as they come offensively, but there is no denying their athletic gifts, and has a ton of physical tools to work with. Who would you take if you had to choose between the two ?

By the way, I never realized Vesely could get up like this. Im officially on his bandwagon.

    CJ Leslie

Vesely could be like Jonas Jerebko. Last season, Jerebko was a defender at the 3 but could handle the 4 at times. I’d be super excited to see him go to Detroit with Monroe ( who I’d argue is playing lights out) and Jerebko next season because that’s gonna be a strong defensive team if it happens.

C.J. Leslie is a year away I believe, but I think he’s a pure SF, who can rebound personally

I like Vesely more. Both are raw, but Vesely has made huge strides this season, and Leslie has had an up-and-down season. They’re both raw, but Vesely has a terrific motor, whereas Leslie doesn’t. Leslie is a great athlete, but usually looks disinterested on the court. Players in his mold like Gerald Wallace and Shawn Marion have great motors and he doesn’t. Vesely has improved his jumpshot this season. Leslie hasn’t shot jumpers well this season, but he can become a serviceable shooter at the next level if he puts the work in and improves his shot-selection. They are both athletic combo-forwards, but both I’m not sure if they have the strength & toughness to play the 4 at this stage, they both struggle to create from the perimeter.

I’ll take Vesely mainly because of his tremendous motor.

I was trying to think of a good comparison for Vesely and I couldn’t come up with one. Im just amazed of how well he runs the floor at 6’11. Who would you compare him to?

Is it just me or is CJ Leslie starting to seem like one of those guys we are going to patiently wait for all his career to harness his potential. He has all the tools to be an impact player, but if he doesnt straighten out his head and approach the game from a mental level with an intellegent understanding he will only hurt any team hes on in the long run.

Jan Vesely = 2012 Slam Dunk Contest Underdog. I would like to see the Warriors pick up Vesely that would be a match made in heaven.

id take Leslie over Vesley…he has more upside IMO….on the other hand Vesley is a really underrated athlete from the games ive seen of him….but i see leslie as a thaddeus young type player and i dont really have one for Vesley, but he can be good

Exactly, the AK47 comp is a at best comparison for me. I think right now, he’s Jonas Jerebko with a little Caron Butler in him. He’s tougher then your average Euro player IMO.

That kid is a freak. We always just assume Euro guys can shoot and arent athletic, but that guy is  a beast. I know from an inside source that Leslie is entering the draft, but I dont think he is even a first rounder right now. He is so far from competing right now, he doesnt really do anything at an NBA level. He is learning to play the 3, and is definately an athlete, but his head seems off. Needs to gain 20 lbs too.

CJ Leslie honestly reminds me of Hakim Warrick when he was at Syracuse. He is still very raw and plays like a power forward opposed to a wing and scores mainly because of his athleticism coupled with a large wingspan. I’m not sure how much weight he can put on, because like Warrick, he is very skinny and seems to find trouble finishing through contact. I like Vesely better though, he has better skills right now IMO and he is taller with just as good(if not better) athleticism- plus he has shown rapid improvement in his jumper. They are both projects though and are very raw…… And I’ve watched Vesely play a lot too, so I’m not just going off what it says on his player profile…..

I know. I haven’t really seen any international prospects play, so when I talk about them, I go by the scouting reports I read.

Jan Vesely makes me think of a Jonas Jerebko/Tayshaun Prince player. Probably a mobile power forward who spreads the floor with his outside shooting.

C.J. Leslie makes me think of Juilian Wright. He hasn’t impressed me yet.

AK 47 is really the only player he compares too if you ever saw Vesslly play, it doesn’t take reading a scouting report to think of the player who plays most like.  Vesselly plays with even more tenacity on offense, he has turned himself into the Euro version of Blake Griffin over there.

And Vesselly is easily the better prospect.  First off he’s 6’11 and posses’ both the size and athleticism to play either forward spot, while Leslie is just 6’8 and even lankier.  Leslie has really disapointed me this year he went from showing promise to losing his starting job and not even producing in the times he’s given. He clearly doesn’t have a great BB IQ.  They are not even going to be drafted close to each other Vesselly will go around 10 slots higher if they both enter this draft.

Jan Vesely can shoot. Not being a featured component of the team’s offense is different from being raw. He has all the ability to play the 3 in the NBA. C.J. Leslie is a 4, but because of his body will have to play the 3. That will be problematic because unlike Vesely has showed no ability to do so. I don’t think the decision between the two would be close.

I agree. Leslie definetely has the athleticism to be a big time 3 in the NBA, but he definetely lacks the ball handling and more importantly a good motor to do so.

I think that right now he doesn’t look like he can make a rotation in the NBA.  If he does get playing time, I think it will be as a 4.  In today’s NBA, shooting is really important.  For a player to play at the 3 in the NBA without an effective jumper even from the mid range, they need to be really good at other aspects of the game, and Leslie is not, as he can’t handle the ball well and doesn’t have a great b-ball IQ.  Until he dramatically improves his perimeter skills, I don’t think that Leslie is a 3 in the NBA.  And, due to his slight frame, lack of ideal height, and lack of an inside scoring game, he won’t be able to play big minutes at the 4.  I don’t think that it should be a question that Vesely is a superior prospect to him.  I highly doubt that Leslie will be a 1st rounder in 2011.

I’d take Vesley over Leslie at this moment as Wizard of Oz points out from a Draft Express post, Leslie has maybe not lived up to his hype this year but has the sort of upside that NBA GM’s tend to love.

If Detroit drafted Vesley then it could be a nice fit but they do seem to have a few Forward tweeners with Daye, Jerebko etc and Monroe might also settle into the PF role in due course.

AK47 lengthwise comparisions are far as well but Vesley cannot play roles at SG lke AK47 does.

Has anyone noticed that AK47 has now gone for the Justin Beiber fringe look after finally abandoning the cropped cut which served hm well for years.
