I look at the scoreboard every day, and it seems like nearly every game being played affects the Jazz in some way. If you don’t know already, the Jazz will get anywhere between zero and two lottery picks in this supposedly loaded NBA draft. The Jazz get their own pick if they MISS the playoffs, but give it up to Minnesota if they make the playoffs. The Jazz get the Warriors pick if the pick is #8 or lower.

GS is currently sitting at #9 with Detroit, NJ, Toronto and Sacramento within striking distance. Although GS has won a couple games lately, they’ve been awful for the most part, with tons of people accusing them of tanking (which I would not blame them for). Even if the Warriors finish #8 or worse, if they win the lottery and get into the top three, they get the pick, so there are no guarantees here. Heck, even if they finish #7 or even 6, it’s still possible for the Jazz to get their pick.

So I have two questions for you all at this point. First, where do you think GS will finish in the standings? And second, should I hope they make the playoffs and lose their lottery pick? Is it worth losing the #13 or 14 pick to get a lottery pick? What do you think?

I want the jazz to make the playoffs so all the youngster get a smell playoff basketball, it will only help develope everyone.  I don’t think the Jazz will sneak into the playoffs this year though.  I think the Jazz will have the 9th pick belonging to the warriors and also there own pick this year.

I think GS will finish 8th actually, they have  a brutal record but are still several games ahead of Sacramento, NJ, and Toronto. These teams will be all out tanking as well soon. GS owes the 1st round pick to Utah regardless if its this year or the next two. As a GM, in the long run of things, might as well get it over with this year.

The Jazz are a talented but awkward team.  They play hard, but they have built-in chemistry issues (Al, CJ & Devin) and too much youth.  That will prevent them from sneaking into the playoffs this year.  So regardless of your cheer strategy, the Jazz are going to keep their own pick.  I’ll be cheering for them to make it, but I think it’s unlikely based on what we’ve seen thus far.

As for GS, I expect them to end w/the 8th or 9th pick, giving it to us.  The teams likely to pass them are also very bad and are 2 games back or more w/only 9 to go.

I agree with the majority, the Jazz will get the GS pick, #8 I think, and also the other pick, probably #13.

Bloodshy is right, the Jazz have major chemistry problems, but are very talented with the young kids.

Harris is a very good PG, but needs to be on an up tempo team, the half court sets the Jazz run don’t fit his talents.

And while I’m in awe at how Jefferson has worked on his game, the shape he’s in, I have a hard time fitting him in with the young kids. Probably will be traded next year sometime, or this summer. I do really like what he’s done this year.

Jazz are down two more players after tonight. CJ Miles and Earl Watson suffered injuries, will be out for a while. CJ with a calf pull, and Watson with a knee. Watson really looked hurt.

That leaves them with 9 players if I figure right, and only Burks and Hayward have played SG. Evans will probably play some SF along with Carroll. Howard and Bell are out for the year.

When you started with "I look at the scoreboard every day, and it seems like nearly every game being played affects the Jazz in some way," i was hoping you would be referring to the playoff race and not the lottery. Because it does seem like every game is affecting them and I’m looking at the Nuggets and Rockets box scores as often as the Jazz box scores. Yeah it’d be great if the Jazz got GS’s pick but it’s still all about the playoffs at this point.

Jazz will likely get two picks. I expect GS to finish at 9 and Utah will just miss the playoffs and get the 14th pick as a result. I would be very happy if the Jazz used these two picks on Marshall or Lillard and Jereny Lamb, or Terrance Ross.

Jazz could use a good shooter. Hayward is the only good shooting youngster, and his shot is off on most nights. It would be really nice if the Jazz had a good shooting 2 guard next to either Marshall or Lillard. Also defense and size matter, so assuming that Beal does not slip to 14 (he’s likely to go top 10), Lamb or Ross would be great 2 guards next to either Lillard or Marshall. This does not necessarily mean that I want Lamb or Ross to start over Burks in the potential youngster lineup. The Jazz can have Burks and Lamb or Ross fight for the starting job next year and possibly the following year and whichever one performs best can get starting nod.

Now that Miles and Watson are out as well as Bell and Howard for the rest of the season, I’m thinking that Burks might start at SG tonight against the Spurs. I’m excited, can’t wait to see how he does starting!
