The Jazz are a very smart team and always draft for need. This year I see two glaring needs that I hope the Jazz will fill. First off let me me throw you a curve ball and tell you that no, one of these needs is not to replace Boozer!! I fully believe that Boozer will stay and if he does not then the Jazz will replace him in trades during the off season not through the Draft. The Jazz need an immediate replacement that is capable of performing to Boozer’s capability or even better than Booz. That obviously cannot be found in the draft because every 4 in the lottery would need some training and would have to fit the Jazz’s system. The only one that does is Monroe but honestly I don’t see him fitting with the Jazz. (But that is another debate that I will not address now)

1 Need: A shot blocking presence down low. Every year the jazz are getting killed down low as both Booz and Okur play very little Defense and cant block shots to save their lives. And then add on the fact that AK is always injured for at least half the year and you have a recipe for disaster. I believe the Jazz have been searching for one since the departure of Mark Eaton back in the 80’s. So this is huge need.
Possible Fillers, Demarcus Cousins, Cole Aldrich, Hassan Whiteside, My pick, Cole Aldrich.

2 Need: A 3 to replace AK when he is down with injury. As a Jazz fan I am tired of seeing CJ Miles replace or even backup AK when he goes down with injury. Miles is strictly a two, yet Sloan has no choice to play him at the three because of the Ronnie Brewer trade and no Matt Harpring. Miles is too small for the three (only 6’5) and too thin. Let me assure you that AK will definitely get injured again in 2011 and will be injured throughout his entire career. So if the Jazz don’t fix it now, well good luck competing against the many athletic 3’s in this league.
Possible Fillers, Wes Johnson or Al Farouq Aminu. My pick Wes Johnson, realistically, Al Farouq Aminu.

What need will the Jazz fulfill? Or will they fulfill both?

First You Are right on, if the Jazz ownership is gutsy, they will bite that luxury tax bullet for one year(Kirilenko off the books next Summer and will come back for a penny because he loves Jerry Sloan, Loves D Will and loves Utah), if they do and they pick where they are slotted and this is really dependent on what the Jazz think they can do next season, or where they are at in their rotation.
First, I don’t believe they go small forward, Johnson is gone by five at the latest, Aminu probably 7/8, could go Henry he’ll be there and will be a good player, and fits in(think less defensive Byron Russell, Shandon Andersen, could become star) and isnt ready anyway and is almost the same player as AK-47. Also, free agent small forwards, solid ones, are a dime a dozen, think Joey Graham(450k this season), and any number of D League studs who are ready for a shot like Sundiata Gaines was.

Second, and more plausible situation, they get pick 9 and they choose either Cole Aldrich (a solid pro who fits in well with what Utah does, has solid length can play post D, rebound, and hit a mid range J), but if they feel they are a little farther away they roll the dice and select Hassan Whiteside and grab the Athleticism and length they have never had, resign Kryl and hope he gets in shape. Whiteside could be a dominant Defensive Center under Jerry Sloan on a good team if given time(only 20).

Unfortunately they have no second rounder in a draft I think is at least 49-50 deep with players who can make a roster.

I agree that the 3 and 5 are their glaring needs. They will not pickup a boozer replacement as they have that in mill sap and I actually think as others do, Kirlanko is a better 4. Andre and Millsap at the 4. Now, we dump KK, and get a big (Aldrich, Whiteside, Monroe, Udoh, any of those guys would be better than KK).

I think with the LA series and their opportunity to get a great legit big, they will do that in the draft and look else where to pickup a 3….

I would take either cousins or aldrich if they are their and hope for a wing to become available. Or if they are both gone take wesley johnson and trade for hasheem thabeet. He atleast will block some shots.

Cole Aldrich would be perfect. A defensive-minded big guy that can block shots. Now the last time the Jazz got a center from Kansas it was the legendary Greg Ostertag. Hopefully Aldrich will be much better than Ostertag. Koufos is a bust and theres only so much Fesenko can give you. CJ Miles is a fine backup SG not a SF like the original poster said. If the Jazz end up with a top 3 pick than Evan Turner would be perfect. Aminu would be fine as well since he is lengthy as well.

Now think if neither Al Farouq Aminu , Wesley Johnson, Cole Aldrich and Greg Monroe are left.
    Who do the Jazz take?

Alot of mocks are putting patterson there because of his hard work ethic and the possible chance that boozer might leave.

Jazz Need size. But they wont get it in the draft unless aldrich is there to be picked.
So they need to look into freeagency or through a trade.

If they have the cap space or can make enough room throughout the offseason, I think an Amare/DWill pick n roll offense would be absolutely lethal. DWill is probably the best pick n roll operating PG (him or Nash, but nash is more pick n pop) and Amare is probably the best pick n roll big man in the game today. Boozer is nice, but Amare is certainly a step up. I doubt he will go there, but I think that would be a hell of a tandem to play against.
