This year Jeremy Lin is shooting a pedestrian 38 fg% and 25% from 3 and is averaging 10 points 6 assists and about 3 TO per game, i hope he can turn it around even though he got all the hype in the world last year, hes a class act. His back-up Toney Douglas had a great game against the lakers but he is shooting 33% from the field too. I would love to see Scott Machado get some minutes in the NBA its a joke nobody drafted him, hes a pure point guard who excels at dishing the ball to open teammates. Not saying he should start but theyll never know what they have if they do not give him minutes. He is in the D-League right now and hopefully he’ll get the call up soon to rejoin the Rockets!

In less than a full season of playing, Lin has one of the most popular players in the world. The all star game is a popularity contest and for the fans. If the NBA did not want fans to vote for their favorite players for the all star game, then they wouldnt allow it. If your not a fan of Lin, then vote for someone else. I have 3 accounts and have been voting for Lin since the all star ballots have been open.

They do need to call Scott Machado up and let him get some run. He will be a good back up to Lin. Once his teammates see him pass the ball the are all going to run that much harder. They are going to work harder to get open because they know they are going to get the ball were they can score.

……and this just shows you the benefit of the Mike DiAntoni system. His system can inflate your stats and skew how good you are as a player. Lin has some talent but he was never as good as the run he was on. Great system, hot week, underdog role… he did his thing. In Houston where he has to run a team and play off of another player; he doesn’t look as good. I think he is a lot better than his numbers suggest but at best Lin is a good role player on a playoff team.

he is basically a rookie and he is smart, works hard, can dish and drive, hes going to be just fine and then all you lin bashers can jump on the bandwagon then.

against the raptors Lin dropped 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting while adding 10 assists, four rebounds and three steals

against the hawks 21 points 10 rebounds 7 assists

against Portland 11 points and adding 11 assists. He also contributed six rebounds, two blocks and a steals

the coaching in Houston sucks thats not his fault.

Darren Collison is putting up similar numbers in the middle of a 4 year 6.4 mill dollar contract, with team options for the 3rd and 4th year. Jeff Teague has a nearly identical numbers. If Lin doesn’t not significantly improve in two years time, there’s a good chance of him being the most overpaid player in the NBA. 15 points 4 rebounds 7 assists with significant improvement to efficiency are my baseline for a point guard making 15 million. Thats what Dragic is doing for half the price, although he’s making more this year.

5 mill for this kind of production isnt a killer. When it jumps, thats a different story.

I think the Rockets front office saw Lin as a long term answer. If I were the GM in Houston, I wouldn’t have signed Lin on that heavy contract, though.

Anyway… maybe it’s a matter of time. All the players are young and should build chemistry together. They are all very talented and could be very good in a few seasons.

I concur. Especially when they could have resigned a PG that was more proven and consistent in Goran Dragic.

Rockets didn’t know they were going to get Asik and Harden and thereby become playoff contenders this year. So Dragic and Lowry were a little old for the time table they thought they were on. Now they are headed toward the playoffs, so it would be nice to have a more polished PG. But Lin can grow with the rest of the team and if they don’t get injured that should include a first round exit in the playoffs as a valuable learning experience.

Anyway, any discussion about Lin has to mention that he is one of the league leaders in steals and he is an above average rebounder for a PG. He is racking up plenty of assists, especially when you consider that Harden often basically plays the point. The FG% is bad and even worse than that he hasn’t been getting to the FT line like he used to. But anyone who watched him shoot always had to say that shot looked suspect. So I’m not surprised the jumpers aren’t falling. If he can dish, rebound, and steal the ball he will be an average PG even with this crappy FG%. But the reports are that he is getting more and more of his old speed back every week. So some of this might still be an injury issue and he might get to the rim easier later in the season which will mean FTs and better FG%.

By the way, the TOs are bad but not that much worse than other PGs. Considering TOs was the HUGE J. LIN PROBLEM last year, bringing them back down to just kind of bad should be considered an accomplishment, I guess. Certainly you can’t say he should be kicked out of the league because he averages 3 TOs per game. (Note Nash and Rose average 3.5 TOs per game during their MVP seasons, TOs is part of what PGs do, they can’t help it.) Last year some people seemed to think he was going to always turn it over 5 or 6 times per game.
