I’m comparing stats from John Wall’s freshman year to Tony’s right now and the stats are just eerily similar which makes me ask, what is the difference between these two young guards?

They are both 6’5 with blazing speed, both are very turnover prone from not knowing how to use their speed, near same FG% and PPG, play passing lanes to get steals, average rebounders. John was a better 3pt shooter in college but it doesn’t really translate neither will Tony’s I doubt. John also had a couple more assists over his freshman year, but I think that is because Tony plays SG a lot for Washington and everyone knows of his passing ability and he could get more, but the system wants him to score more than pass.

One went to a big school and had big time hype, the other stayed home-bred and is quietly one of the most solid Guards in college will that be the difference in their pro careers? So I ask again what is the difference between these two? Also do you see Wroten as a PG at the next level like Wall?

Biggest difference is Wall has always been labeled a pg and is an elite athlete. Not many people are sure what Wroten projects to at the next level and he is a very good athlete, but not anywhere near Wall.

Wroten is just as much a PG as Wall whether he was labeled it or not, he falls in love with flashy passes but he can pass regardless. Atlheticism has nothing to do with running the PG position Nash and Parker can’t leap over someone but they are very good PG’s, and Wroten has plenty of athleticism anyway, maybe not John Wall type but he has more than your average.

Biggest difference is probably FT%. Not that much different to be honest, Wall more athletic though.

John Wall is 6’2 ¾ 195 without shoes while Tony Wroten Jr is 6’5 205 without shoes.

Time will tell how good both of these players are but TW is a next level talent most definitely as he can get to the rim at will and finish strong while drawing fouls.

He needs to work on his fts, to’s, outside shot, team defense but he is improving as the season progresses in every aspect of his game as he is still an elite level passer & athlete who is only going to get better being a self confessed certified gym rat.

wroten just recently was put into the starting lineup. Not only did he come off the bench before but ocassionally sat at the end of games cause the coach didnt seem to trust him. But now he is given free reign and the results are terriffic. Solid chance to win pac 12 poy.

Wall is still even faster and overall more athletic he is much more of a pure pg and leader..

but still Wroten (remember it) is 6’6.5 also has bigger frame than Wall’s he might not ever pass even close as much as  Wall will but it’s just because i see Tony playing Wade TYreke type of sg not a pg..but overall he is still sick prospect to me..

since day one i have fallen in love with him and MKG as a prospect i really can see him top5 to top7 in some mock by the end of march to be honest

Yes he is 6’5 w/o shoes and a solid 205, 6’6.5 with shoes.

He reminds me a little of Michael Ray Richardson, Gary Payton, Penny Hardaway & Tyreke Evans.

TW has sick handles and will only get better as he is a gym rat working on his weaknesses and strengthening his strengths.

A most definite Lottery pick (1st guard drafted in my mind) if his season keeps on going good & he decides to come out into the 2012 NBA draft.

I tink they’re both pretty similar. They both are trying to bring AAU ball into college/NBA, and are not very smart players.

But any team who takes Wroten in the lotto isn’t serious about winning. He’s a ball-dominant player with a poor IQ and is a poor decision maker. That’s a recipe for disaster especially if your team is financially committed to giving him playing time (see Tyreke Evans). IMO, he’s a player you take later in the first and just hope that he eventually gets it, but if he doesn’t its easier to cut ties.

When comparing players, I have a hard time not comparing Wroten to Tyreke Evans. Wroten isn’t quite the bully getting to the lane as Evans, but they are both players you could either play at the 1 or 2.  I’m less confident about Wroten’s ability to play the PG spot in the NBA, but they seem a lot more similar than Wroten and John Wall.

When was Wall only 6’2??  I’m thinking now he has to be taller than that.  I’d say around 6’5.

I can definetely see a little Tyreke in Tony Wroten.  I think Wroten is a better passer with Tyreke probably more physical and powerful.

His NBA pre draft measurements were 6’2 3/4 without shoes as per Draftexpress dot com.

It is apparent that many of you have not actually seen Tony Wroten play.  He is perhaps the most athletic guard in all of college basketball.  The kid can jump out of the gym and has lightnening quick speed.  He ran a 10.7 100m dash in high school after his ACL tear.  His passing skills are reminiscent of Magic Johnson and with time he truly will be at that level.

John Wall is awesome, and I’m not here to say any different, I just want people to see Wroten is every bit as good if not better.  If you don’t believe me just go to youtube and type in "jamal crawford summer league" and see Wroten break Wall’s ankles on the way to the hoop.

The kid has got mad talent and will play point in the league.  If he sticks around at UDub, mark my words, they will go to the Final Four.

If you go to youtube to check out the matchup between Wall and Wroten, watch the video titled "Jamal Crawford presents HOMETEAM (pro-am highlights)."  The game was played at a community college in Seattle last summer and features Wall, Wroten, Nate Robinson, Isaiah Thomas and others.

Wroten is wearing number one for the green team.

What’s the point?  Wroten, like Wall, has blazing speed, sick handles, and unmatched athleticism.  In those three ways, they are very similar.

i honestly think tony wroten will post better numbers than wall did in his rookie year, a derrick rose type of impact would not suprise me at all.

^ Wall was ahead of rose in most categories. FG% percentage was the biggest difference.

You must not have watched Wroten’s game. Ross is the most athletic player n that team as far as jumping. Wroten is not the best athlete in all of college basketball. You went a tad overboard there

I have had to change my undergarments several times while reading this thread. I think I may need to divorce my wife and propose to Mr. Wroten.
