WizardofOzParticipantI’m not going to get into all the analysis, but Ty Lawson is WAY better then Johnny Flynn. Flynn’s not very good.

651TwolvesParticipantWho was a better PG while in college Flynn or Lawson: Although Flynn averaged better overall numbers than Lawson, Lawson helped lead NC to their national championship in 09, final 4 in 08, and elite 8 in 07.
Who will said to have a better pro career when it is over: Flynn has more potential to be a star, but Lawson will and already has found a niche as a good role player, so I’ll go with Lawson.
Who has the better attributes?
Athleticism- Flynn
Size- since flynns an inch or two taller and more muscular, Flynn
Defense- Flynn
Strength- Flynn
Quickness- you cant even see lawson when he changes directions, Lawson
Leadership- Lawson
Jumpshot- Lawson
Ballhandling- tie
Passing-lawson
Intangibles- Flynn

Im Your FatherParticipantI won’t get into their attributes, but Lawson was definitely the better college player. He didn’t put up better stats, because he didn’t need to, but he was what made those UNC teams go.

iguapops420ParticipantLawson was better in college and will have a better career. Flynn is a better athlete. Flynn probably has the better potential though. Not sure how he has more intangibles, IMO, that’s what makes Lawson so good is his intangibles/fundamentals. Flynn has issues with the basic nuances of the pg position. Much less the pg position in the tri with his lack of shooting abilities. Should really develop a J and be more active off-ball.

LAKE SHOWFlyn is considered a bad defender this year while Lawson isn’t considered to be as bad. Only Minny fans think Flynn will be a star while all the other coach’s think he will be a career back up and i have to agree with them.
Lawson is better now and has more potential imo. I dont even think its a debate because Flynn has looked pretty bad this year while Lawson looks like he is ready to take over at the point guard for Denver in the very near future

BlueLacesParticipantNot all Minny fans think he is going to be a star. I think Flynn is an awful player. He doesn’t bring anything while he is on the court. He may shove these words back in my face and start playing well, but who knows. And before I get negatives for this comment, how many of you have actually watched Flynn play this year?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/24/2011 - 11:46am #478164
LAKE SHOWIve watched him plenty but only because i watch to see B-easy and Love play

Cardinal_FanParticipantGive me Lawson, i think the nuggets wont even hesitate to hand over the starting job 2 him an he would be a more than serviceable point guard in the league, Flynn doesnt even really have his organization backing him becuz if he did they wouldnt still be tryin to get Rubio to come play.

Lotto StudParticipant"Flynn doesnt even really have his organization backing him becuz if he did they wouldnt still be tryin to get Rubio to come play"
Not necessarily true……Minny could still be riding off of the hype Rubio has had for the last past couple of years. What if Rubio comes over & his career is no better than Flynn’s? Honestly if majority of us had 2 back to back picks in that situation I think all of us would have took either Brandon Jennings or Stephen Curry, without knowing the type of performances they had put up in their rookie seasons.

iguapops420ParticipantFlynn is a pretty bad pg, pretty bad shooter, and doesn’t have the highest b-ball I.Q., but has incredible athleticism. He is actually a good pressure defender. I wouldn’t say that just because he’s looked bad this year and Lawson hasn’t quite makes the case for Lawson over Flynn, as Flynn has been hurt and has now had the reigns pulled back on him by Rambis now. He still has good potential and could develop into a smaller version of The Jet if he would develop his J. More than likely he’ll be on the way out with Brewer or Ellington.

JBrace19ParticipantI dont know about you but Flynn wins the TOUGHNESS award. After watching the 6 overtime game…he was a true warrior. But Lawson i believe was the better collegiate player because of the National Championship.
Athleticism-Flynn
Size-Flynn, because of musculinity and and inch taller.
Defense-Flynn, because of the physicality.
Strength-Flynn
Quickness-Lawson, one word: ‘Lightning’
Leadership-Lawson, him and Hansborough showed excellent leadership their championship season.
Jumpshot-Lawson
Ballhandling-Lawson i believe. I dont see how the ball keeps up with him while he is on a fast break. But Flynn is a very close second.
Passing-Lawson
Intangibles-Flynn
P.S. Rubio will be no better than Flynn. Rubio is a good passer and a pretty good ball handler. But plays weak D.
I am a MN fan but i think Flynn still could be a solid starter if he starts to LEARN the game. Until then we are sunk.

ilike.panochasParticipantFlynn absolutely doesnt fit Rambis’ offense, I believe he’s running the “Triangle”? This is the same team that was unwilling to give Kevin Love more than 35 minutes early on in the season because “he’s not a good fit for the Triangle” and almost traded him last off season. The TWolves actually good young talent, but the organization and their coach are dumbasses and doesn’t know how to utilize their players’ talent. Jonny Flynn is incredibly talent and as long as Rambis is the coach, he will never get the chance he should be getting. The guy averaged 14PPG 4APG his rookie year, and I was expecting him to improve on those stats (atleast 16PPG 5-6APG) but early injuries and bad coaching has prevented him from doing so.

TyrekeJonesParticipantWho was a better PG while in college Flynn or Lawson- I absolutely loved Flynn’s game in college, I followed Syracuse that whole year and he was truly a joy to watch but Lawson had the better career of the two, he went far in the tournament almost every year and even won it in 09
Who will said to have a better pro career when it is over- As of now Lawson has shown to be a solid contributor for the Nuggets off the bench and has proven he is a capable starter when given the oppurtunity but Flynn is playing in a system of Basketball that does not complement his game very well and with his injury this year has not really had a chance to prove himself, and it is hard to come back from injury and contribute immediately.
Who has the better attributes?
Athleticism-Flynn
Size-Flynn has a few inches on Lawson and is a little bit bulkier/more muscular
Defense-Flynn
Strength-Flynn
Quickness-Lawson is one of the quickest people I have watched play, lightning fast
Leadership-Lawson at this point has shown from the college level (success of UNC while he was playing there) and even now that he does have the capabilities to lead a team but Flynn has also shown that ability as well, Lawson has the edge now though
Jumpshot-Lawson
Ballhandling-I am going to say as of now, it is a tie
Passing-Flynn, I might get questioned for this but he is a very good passer but in the system he plays in, as I said earlier does not play to his strengths therefore his passing ability truly gets overlooked
Intangibles-Flynn brings toughness, passion, heart and intensity

gregoden08ParticipantIsn’t a better passer than Lawson. Don’t use that system crap as an excuse. Not even a comparison.

TyrekeJonesParticipantI don’t mind you disagreeing with me, but please Explain to me how Minnesotas system doesn’t overshadow or hide his passing ability. Some system’s supposedly inflate player’s numbers by the type of basketball they play (Golden State and New York) so why is it so far fetched for a system to deflate or negate/hide a part of a player’s game having to do with the type of basketball the team plays? Some systems benefit players while other systems actually hide some of the player’s abilities depending on who the player is and their capabilities, Flynn’s game in my opinion does not fit well in Minnesota.

iguapops420ParticipantLet’s get real, Flynn isn’t that good of a passer dude. Triangle does limit pg’s ability to rack up assist numbers, but that’s not all you look at. Flynn is flashy passer and that’s it. Can’t really make a very good post entry pass, doesn’t have that of good of decision making skills, and doesn’t have a pass first mentality. Those all go together in reference to passing. Lawson is the better passer of the two. Flynn has better arm strength, but I think Lawson is overall stronger. Roy Williams was also quoted as saying that Lawson was the best floor-general that he has EVER coached.
