PhillySports0ParticipantAm I crazy or does Julius Randle remind anybody of Charles Barkley…. Both strong physical rebounders who out muscle opponents and grab every rebound. Both can grab a rebounds, dribble down court and start the break, Randle is capable of doing this I just don’t think Calapari wants him to do it but he has done it and shown flashes. I honestly swear that these two play IDENTICAL with the same skill set

redeyejediParticipantgo type "Charles Barkley" into youtube
Randle is not even close; if Randle was a 9, Barkley would be an 11.
Randle is more like Al Jefferson or David West or David Lee; skilled and/or strong, but mediocre athleticism.0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/10/2014 - 10:53pm #878243

he_gets_bucketsParticipantWhere are people getting this idea that Randle is a "mediocre" athlete? Have you watched him play a single time? Dude is a freak, he runs the floor like a gazelle and soars over guys.

theprophetParticipanti wouldn’t have gone barkley, but i can see your basis of the skill set comparisons.

For_Never_EverParticipantI do see the skills comparison. It’s just weird because phyically they are completely didfferent from each other.

King CaluchaParticipantThey are both tenacious rebounders… not the greatest defenders on earth. They can put the ball on the floor and shoot a little from outside. Skillset-wise I can see the basis (as theprophet said), but I wouldn’t go that far yet.
And… it sounds sacrilegious too.

surveParticipantI have said this before…and gotten flack about it….but even though he is not as skilled on the perimeter right now…I think eventually Randle could closely resemble Lamar Odom on SPEED. A 6’9" left hander with improving handle and jumpshot who is a strong rebounder. He is not a bad passer either. Like I said, he is not as skilled as Odom was right now… and he cant check SF’s, but he could develop into a multi-faceted player.

ibe12ParticipantI see what your saying about that. I’ve seen Randle do some things that reminded me of Barkley as well. I don’t see him being that good but even if he’s half as good as Barkley he’ll be a good player.

tbest23ParticipantI can’t remember if Barkley had T-rex arms like Randle does. He reminds me of Zach Randolph. Both are lefty’s and both are beasts underneath with a more similar skill set. Either way, I think he’s a solid pro but not a superstar.

surveParticipantthe most popular comparison is Zach but I just dont see it…outside of the fact that they are both very strong, physical lefties…they just dont play alike to me. ZBo has post scoring ability that I cant see Randle ever having. Randle is not as skilled or crafty. He basically overpower guys. ZBo overpowers too but he has a finesse game and can easily get his shot off. Randle looks more like a guy who will have better range and consistency outside of 15′ and he will do some work down low. Although he could be as good as ZBo….I dont think their games will end up looking anything alike. In that regard, I would say Randle resembles Barkley a lot more than he does Randolph.

choyatchuenParticipantBarkley has more skills than Randle.
Taking the ball from coast to coast. Barkley has the combinatiion of power, speed, agility, and skills that i have yet to see in another NBA Player.

LindseyParticipantPeople might not like this comparison, but I really see a Bigger, slightly more athletic Carlos Boozer w/o the jumpshot, but I think he could get that in time.

Memphis MadnessParticipantA couple of months ago I predicted that we would compare Julius Randle to basically every power forward that we could think of.
I never watched this guy play, and he has a limited number of highlights on Youtube but what about Hank Gathers?
If Randle is somewhere between Webber, Barkley, Z Bo, and Derrick Coleman, where does that leave you?

PhillySports0ParticipantYeah… I need to understand why people underrate Randle as an athlete.. Someone’s going to have to convince me that this dude isn’t a freak of an athlete

surveParticipantstandards are higher. people dont view him as that great an athlete because of all the elite guys coming up and in the league. if you compare him to players before Garnett entered the draft, then he would probably be considered elite and people dont look at it that way. he is a tremendous athlete to me. one thing though…I think he needs work on his footwork…especially away from the basket. thats why he struggles facing up and posting sometimes. once he gets his steps and footwork down….you will see that athleticism displayed much more vividly.
