I think he should be the consensus number one pick in the 2014 draft and I don’t even think it’s close over Wiggins as of RIGHT NOW. I know Jabari Parker might have something to say about that before the end of the season. Wiggins obviously has the POTENTIAL, but from talks out of Lawrence, he has a LONG ways to go before he is dominating on a consistent basis. Bill Self has stated that Wiggins has been the 3rd or 4th best player in practice. Randle is an absolute beast and you just don’t see freshman coming in with that type of body, skill and athleticism. One match up I am very excited to see is the Randle-Mcadoo battle when Kentucky visits Chapel Hill on December 14th. It will be interesting to see how the young Cats respond to a hostile environment at the Dean Dome. Mcadoo has the athleticism to compete with Randle. We all know James Michael has a disappointing sophomore season with his turnovers, terrible free-throw shooting and overall inconsistent play. This game will be a huge opportunity for him and to see if he has improved over the summer and could really boost both players draft stock.

We all as nbadraft.net members have to wait until the college basketball season begins before we can truly predict who the number one pick will be in the 2014 nba draft. I’m actually a fan of all the top 3 prospects ( randle, parker, and wiggins ) . I definitely think that wiggens is overhyped in a very unrealistic way. But wiggins definitely shows the potential to be a very valuable and impactful nba player. Especially as a defender, I actually believe that wiggens can easily match the great defensive abilities and defensive versility of scottie pippen, But I also think that wiggens has to develop a all-around offensive skill set that isn’t overly dependent on athleticism. If wiggens want’s to develop into great offensive threat in the NBA

Jabari Parker is a coaches dream, because he possesses the complete skill package with the ability to mentally think in ways that allows him to consistently make the right decision and right play. While also possessing the intangibles and playmaking skills that will help him be impactful and effective with-out needing to score the basketball. I actually think that jabari has the potiential to better that both carmello Anthony and antwon walker. And ultimately become a player who similar to grant hill, before grant hill had his numerous injuries

Julius Randle is a motherf*ckin beast. I love his extreme physical toughness and dynamic skill set for a power forward. My one problem with Julius is that I think that he plays on the perimeter too much. When he should just focus on being a very skilled power forward who can be special in the paint as a finisher and creator of offense for himself and his teammates.

Not "Wiggens". I have seen this (from you) a bunch of times and while I guess it is not a huge deal, it would probably make your argument a little more concrete if you would spell his name correctly. You spelled it right a few times, than go back to the "e" spelling. As far as his offensive skill set, do not think it is nearly as poor as you believe it is. He can use some work, just know his shot is not bad, he has a floater that is really dangerous and I think the reason he has this hype is due to things he has shown that make him a very intriguing prospect.

It is also "Antoine Walker" and "Carmelo Anthony". Just have seen this multiple times and think that for someone who takes his scouting opinion seriously, doing these little things would maybe make people take it more seriously as well. Take it whatever way you want to, just know I am more trying to help than nitpick or disrespect you. I am guessing you would like other people to be receptive to your scouting, simple things like this go a long way when you are reading a post.

As much as other third party observers have. Now that we have actually seen them both in the pre-season, think they pretty much are what we thought they were. That is, two of the best players in college basketball. Having seen both of them play and knowing what they have to offer, I do not know why I need to go off of the talk of someone who goes to one of Andrew Wiggins practices, is not blown away, than just buys the hype going around Julius Randle. I think this is what happened in the case of the Jeff Goodman article.

Actually asked Jeff over twitter whether he had seen Randle before he wrote the articles he did claiming that he would take Randle first than stating the observations he had at Wiggins practice. He said he had not. Is this not a case of going off of what you see on one hand and what you assume on the other? Does this than mean the player you have not seen personally is better than someone you had seen who did not live up to expectations, once again, in a single practice? To me, that is no reason to than crown that person a better prospect for the NBA Draft. Unless you actually do believe that person will be a better player at the NBA level.

Julius Randle definitely can make a case that he is a better NBA prospect than Andrew Wiggins. I just do not believe that has happened as of right now. To me, Calipari tends to talk his players up while probably grilling them in practice, guess that is how he deals with the media. Bill Self does not tend to do the same thing. Maybe that was the reason that Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin and Ryan Harrow were being placed ahead of Ben McLemore on Mock Drafts going into last season.

So, do not buy your reasoning for putting Julius Randle ahead of Andrew Wiggins. For one, Andrew Wiggins is a much more versatility as a defender, plus while Julius is an excellent athlete, Wiggins is truly world class. Wiggins’ speed is at a different level, even with Randle’s strength being very impressive. To me, seeing both of them in April, Wiggins was still bar none the better prospect. I know a lot could change, but I do not think that the things being said about Andrew Wiggins necessarily make him less of a prospect. I notice nobody is ranking Kentucky’s practice players, plus we hear a new "this guy has been the most impressive" nearly every other day or week out of UK.

So, unless I get more of an actual reason to rank Julius Randle ahead of Andrew Wiggins, not buying it. Julius is a very good prospect, he has a great deal of ability, has some court vision and should end up being a very good NBA player. Still do not believe he has the ceiling of Andrew Wiggins or is necessarily on a different level as a player as of right now. Both of them have played a pre-season game, both were clearly the best players on their team. If you want to believe what is going around, that is fine. Just have a hard time moving Randle to the top of the class based off an opinion of someone who had not seen him play in months and is going completely off of hearsay, when things I have observed might say otherwise.

I get why everybody loves Julius randle with his skill set and physicality, but besides playing on the perimeter too much, he also has very unimpressive length for a power forward

You guys are making me laugh in my house right now, I just woke up, so I’m not really paying too much attention to my spelling and grammar. But I’m pretty sure you guys know what I’m trying to say. Let’s be patient with those three ( wiggens, randle, and parker). And let their performance during the college basketball season determine who the number one pick in the 2014 nba draft should truly be

We are laughing too, believe me, lol. It is not about you being drowsy, this has happened numerous times before. Was just a suggestion. The least you could have done, if you wanted to post the same thing again (which was NOT my suggestion) is go and look at "Andrew Wiggins" profile to see that his name is not spelled "Wiggens". Did not mean to make it into a big thing, though once you changed every "Wiggins" to "Wiggens", it is hard not to think it is kind of hilarious.

Plus in this reply you still spell it "wiggens", lol! We will wait on it, just making early predictions like you already did. Mine is that this guy WIGGINS is going to be the best prospect, much like you have about Jabari Parker and Julius Randle. Things can definitely change, just see different things than you do I suppose. I still think Parker and Randle are really nice prospects, have written such things, just also believe that Andrew Wiggins has the ability to be the best, if that is already not the case.

I get that spelling is not the end all, just do not know why you would want to spell something wrong time and time again, especially when it is pertaining to a prospect you pertain to know about. It is something relatively easy to research and make sure you get right. We all make mistakes, I definitely make mistakes as well, just do not know why people get so defensive when this is brought up. If you are going to post about a player, check to see how their name is spelled. It would be kind of annoying if someone called you "princelames", over and over again, right? Well, just an example of what the constant use of "wiggens" may look to people.

Plus, the ones he had right in the first post, he went back and changed them to "wiggens". I think he may be doing it to mess with me, though maybe it was just a mistake, lol. Either way, could just look at the top name on the current Mock Draft and freshman rankings to see how it is spelled. Was just a suggestion, plus said nothing about posting the same thing again while fixing the two names he throws in as comparisons to Jabari Parker :).

Randle has short arms, and he looks pretty mechanical operating in the low post. Watching him against people who match his athleticism, even if they are smaller they give him a tough time. This can be compounded by his tendency to drift outside.

No doubt if Cal gets him to operate consistently in the elbow/ mid post range he can be ridiculously successful in college and a poy candidate. But the whole Randle-Wiggins debate – at least from a physical/nba potential standpoint – the comparison reminds me too much of rose/beasley 08. I know randle has an apparently much better mind state at this stage than beasley, but i don’t beasley would be much more than a 2nd/3rd option if he stayed out of trouble and was mentally strong.

I think wiggins game against randle in the EYBL was evident of all that wiggins can do right now as a defender, transition player, and in that game (and that summer more so than his hs year) there were plenty of flashes of one on one offensive brilliance. Not even touching on what he can improve on still as an 18 year old.

Randle was exposed that game from what he will often see defending him in the nba. he was only successful bullying in the post, and everything that people love about him was negated.

I know it’s only one game, but if the tables flipped, and Julius laid the beating on Andrew, I KNOW it would be used as ammo in these pre-season draft debates, and I’ve actually barely seen it mentioned recently.

I think Randle’s attitude will come into question at some point. Just looking at his demeanor has me thinking there might be a red flag that pops up. On the other hand he has some elite potential and would be a number one in several other drafts. He’s going to be more than fine at power forward and if he keeps his head straight he’ll be a perennial all star. But Wiggins is going first. That’s not going to change.

Randle looks a great prospect and we know how Coach Cal can get GM’s to fall in love with his “one and done” guys but I don’t see him as a potential franchise changer as Wiggins and possibly Parker could be IMO.

If I am proved wrong I’ll hold my hand up.

At the moment I’d have Randle 4th or 5th in my mock lists behind Wiggins, Parker and Smart. But as I never officially do a mock draft until after draft lottery day, those positions are fairly worthless yet as we have yet to see any NCAA competitive games this season and the mocks will change as a season progresses although this year we might expect the elite guys to stay more in their draft ranges as happened in other deep drafts in 2007 and 2008.

I’d echo the statements above that we’d like to see Randle learn to play inside more for if he does play as an SF going forward he already has the size to outmatch a lot of NBA SF’s. He looks to have legit 3 point range and he needs to use it but not at the expense of a potentially very good inside game.

Julius Randle might be the more dominant college player that is very possible. That will still not make him a better long term prospect than Wiggins. As much as he will physical force in college NBA is a different story all together he will not have any significant strength advantage against power forwards in the league. Off the bounce it looks like he is a drive left finish left guy only. Which he will get away with in college because of his power in the league he better learn to use his right hand. Post wise he is just a bully he has no real post moves and being a one and done player he will not develop them in college. He also seem to prefer to stay away from contact unless he is bigger stronger and does a lot of double clutching in post which is fine now but is a blocked shot in NBA. Even though he far less athletic, Okafor for example in HS footwork is much better as are his post moves. I also think from looking at him his standing reach will not be great either. Not that it is end all be all but with analytics being at all time high teams will prob hold that against him.

Athletically Wiggins is better in every category. Yes he is thin but Randle is the one is abnormally mature. Most 6’8″ 18 year olds are skinny. Yes Wiggins has to improve ball handling and shooting but neither is broken. His shot needs reps and handling needs drills. However the biggest question with Wiggins is motor. Can he stay revved up game after game. I think he has shown that when at full throttle in HS he was unquestioned best player. He basically dominated Randle in biggest game in EYBL head to head. Also when ever challenged by either a crowd chanting overrated or sports illustrated article he put on show to shut everyone up.

I think Randle will start faster than Wiggins at beginning of the season. By seasons end tournament time I think Wiggins will be the just as good or better. To me Wiggins is a natural. We all know that guy that just picks stuff up easier and doesn’t have to try as hard as the rest to be good at things. Which is a gift and a curse. When you never have to work hard to be good at something it is WILL to be great that pushes you. You will never find that out in a one and done season. Wiggins will go number unless he plays very poorly. In today’s game 1,2,3’s win games 4’s still need someone to get them the ball. So GM’s will prefer Wiggins if its a toss up. Wiggins is different player than LBJ and KD, however in terms of pure talent and upside his potential is inline with theirs. No GM wants to pass on generational talent even for a very good player.

Coach Cal is very good at hyping his players up. He talks up good players to make them seem great. Bill Self is always going to tell his players they need to work on something or down play there them just for the simple fact that they do need work and keeps them humble enough to keep wanting them to improve. Coach Cal’s approach is great for the simple fact that it looks great to incoming recruits but as far as his players go they haven’t been able to improve on certain aspects of the game. I do believe that Wiggins still should be taken No.1 over Randle who I believe should be taken 4.

Randle has a legit 3 point range and but lacks the polish to play with the bigs inside in the NBA. I’m looking to him as a tweener forward right now. Without the inside polish his best case scenario is a super athletic Terrence Jones with it he can be Zach Randolph on steroids.

On defense hopefully he can develop as a stopper in the chuck hayes mold.

Randolph is not accurate. He is glued to the floor but is significantly bigger with a 7’5″ wingspan (Randle’s is 6’11”). This allows Randolph to board underneath with the best of them. Randle’s face and name are similar to Randolph’s, that’s where the similarity ends. Depending on his three point shot, I still think Randle should potentially go as high as #2 though.
