Answered a TON of questions tonight against NC State, being guarded by an NBA quality guard in Brown.  Marshall had 22 points, 13 assists and 0 turnovers, was 4-5 from 3.

I understand that this was one game, but he has the ability to score and fecilitate a team.

He’s definitely the top PG available in the draft. I think a team in the 6-12 range in need of a PG should take him. I’m by no means a UNC fan, but he’s the type of guy who’s passing abilities should translate to the NBA. He’s a good guy to get, and add some scorers next to.

Can do it anytime he wants. Vastly underrated shooter. He is a difference maker. Can’t wait to see him succeed in the NBA.

He can do it anytime he wants?  Then why is he shooting 27% from 3 for the year?  27%!!! I think he wants to make all of them buddy.  He hasnt hit a 3 in over 5 games and just went 0-4 vs Miami but he can do it anytime he wants right?

Jon I didn’t know underrated shooters shot 27% from 3 which is actually worse then what he shot as a freshman learn a new thing everyday.

I’m starting to think JonOatmeal is really Marshall’s girlfriend cuz this is turning into the twilight zone.  One game and he’s the next John Stockton nevermind the fact he’s been building a brick house in Raleigh with his long range shots to live in after he cuts from whatever team drafts him in the 2nd round and European clubs laugh in his agents face asking why would they sign a PG who can’t out shoot their centers.

I like Kendall a ton, but he’s Calderon without the shot.  That’s a backup.

Yea I’m not sure about him in the lottery. Depending on who comes out and who picks where, he might be more of a 17-20 guy. Of course, he could have a huge March Madness run and get picked in the top 10 too.

imo shooting is one of the easiest things to fix… so i wouldnt pass him up, however overall talent he still belongs in the 16-20 range… i mean thats not bad either.

As a UNC Fan, I’m glad he took over the PG chores from Larry Drew II… Obviously he’s making UNC a little bit better with his amazing vision… Yes, he isn’t as quick as some of the PG’s but they don’t have the court vision that he has though…

NoMoney, they never said Rubio was slow, Rubio was always a fantastic athlete and he’s a good defender.  Plus Marshall’s ball handling is nowhere near Rubio’s.

@Steve, Marshall is actually shooting worse then 3 this year then he was as a freshman so when is he going to fix his shot.  Plus not every player can fix their shot, and in Marshall’s case if he fixes it a a great deal he then becomes only average shooter.  He’ll never not be the type of player you can’t leave open.

And Marshall is a great passer yes, but he’s not the greatest ball handler, nor is he the most creative offensive PG.  Marshall passes the ball to great scorers who don’t miss their shots.  If you expect him to come into the NBA and break down pro defenses and actually manufacture shots for his team I just don’t see it.

Florida State has a pro style defense and look what they made him look like.  I’d love to see Marshall keep his turnovers down when a player like Jrue Holiday is smothering him on a full court press.

Mr. 19134 please read Ricky Rubio’s profile on this website before you post.  The same knocks that they had on Rubio they are making on Marshall.

I take Marshall’s shooting percentage with a grain of salt considering the fact that he shoots a wooping 2 3’s a game.  I mean come on.  I would understand if he was shooting 4-6 3’s a game but 2 3’s a game and saying that he can’t shoot is not fair to the guy to use numbers.

And for your last point about defenses.  Again everyone has their bad games.  I mean he carved up Nolan Smith last year for 15 points and 11 assists who is a very good defender.  Last year against FSU (with their same backcourt) Marshall had 9 points 16 assists and 3 turnovers in the first meeting and the second he had 7 points, 8 assists and 3 turnovers.  Again, please do your research before posting.

As for the talent argument about how Marshall has people to pass to, I want you to give me an explanation of why UNC was an NIT team before Larry Drew up and left them.  I mean they got BEAT DOWN by 20+ to GEORGIA TECH when Larry Drew was their starter.

of course marshall is not the greatest athlete in ncaa… but come on he’s a "sport player" and … he’s lucky : the sport he’s playing is not track and field !!!

People always all 3 of those things actually lol. People questioned Rubio’s speed, athleticism and defense all the time when he was a prospect.

Yeah Kendall Marshall has made UNC’s scorers as good as they’ve been basically. He is the best transition passing PG in the country, he can thread the needle on drive and dish, he is the best at getting shooters the ball in their shooting pocket that I’ve seen in a long time, he can feed the post, and he lob the ball to cutters. I don’t think their is a PG who has made players better than Kendall Marshall over the past 2 years. How much better UNC has been since he took over illustrates that. He doesn’t score much, but he has shown that he is an reasonably effective scorer when he looks for his own shots. He also has great size. He’s not a great athlete or all that quick, but he is an effective PG simply because he can create for others and make guys so much better. You never want to doubt a PG who makes his teammates so much better the way Marshall does, even if he doesn’t look to score much. Just put him around scorers, and he will be perfect.

     @ Mr. 19134 :

"Marshall passes the ball to great scorers who don’t miss their shots" : it’s not a weekness AT ALL.

That is exactly what you’re asking to your strating pg : give the ball to the man who is in charge (that’s to say your FP and his "offensive lieutenants") where he is the most effective. There is already so much dalse pg unable to understand that their team only ask them to give the ball in the best condition to the most efficient scorers.

That’s what fisher, billups, parker, rondo did first and foremost to help their team to win championships. As a pg you don’t have to create every time (it would be uneffective), you have to run the sytem and coach strategy 75% of the time : give the ball to the man where and when you have to. NOTHING MORE.

    Teague fg%-41, 3 pt %-32

    Wroten fg%-46.5, 3 pt% 19

    Marshall fg%-45, 3pt %-32

So how is Marhsall the weakest of this group???? With far better passing and turnover numbers.

Steve Nash shot 43% from the field and  34% from 3 his senior year.

Jason Kidd shot 33% from 3 for his college career.

Russell Westbrook shot 46% from the field and 34% from 3 his sophomore year.

Rajon Rondo shot 27% from 3 his sophomore year down from 30% his freshman year.

So how did these guys fix their shot? And can you leave them open now? It’s real easy just to start spouting off like you know what you’re talking about or just completely make stuff up.
