Kevin Ollie coached his a$$ off in the tournament and looks like he’ll be a good coach for a while. He’s universally liked, and young. This summer, and the next and the next and so forth, he’ll be fielding a ton of offers, from the NBA, and other colleges, so I was curious – what do yall think about the direction his career’s gonna go in?

He could go to the NBA and get a cushy job immediately… Mark Jackson’s position at GSW seems insecure and, if they go out in the first round, should be done, and if I were a Warriors fan or decision-maker I’d jump at the opportunity to have Ollie on board there. Other potential positions in the NBA in the near future include Detroit, Lakers, and the Rockets.

Alternatively, he could jump ship to a bigger, more prestigious college, or just a better contract. If he goes this direction, I could see him taking over any of the Big 12’s "Often Underachieving 3," OK State, Texas, or Baylor, for Travis Ford, Rick Barnes, and Scott Drew respectively. All teams that don’t normally do as well as they could. He could also replace some aging legend on the outs, if Krzyzewski ever leaves he could replace him at Duke.

But what I and probably most other people would find most satisfying would be him staying at UConn and trying to make the best program in America, or at least one of those historic colleges mentioned in the same breath as Duke, UNC, Syracuse, or Kentucky. They’re almost there, but I’d love to see "Ollie-UConn" being next to "Boeheim-Syracuse" and "Krzyzewski-Duke".

So anyways, where do you guys see his career going?

He’s a Uconn guy.  He’s either gonna stay there or jump to the NBA. Won’t ever leave for another college school.

You have to look at it this way. Ollie went to UConn. The only coaching job he leaves for is in the NBA imo. I highly doubt he would ever leave UConn for another school, even one as prestiguous as Duke if Coach K were to retire.

I don’t see Ollie going anywhere. Why leave your alma mater? Like that’s the dream job for most people

Why leave when you just won a Championship, so early in your coaching career?

Phil Jackson needs to call this guy.  Huge stage, no expectations, and tons of UConn fans in NYC already.

If Kevin Ollie takes any NBA job it should be with the Knicks.  Otherwise STAY AT UCONN.

This team’s future is really bright.

But you know some team who is tanking for cap space, high draft picks and Kevin Durant is gonna throw a brinks truck at Ollie before summer FA actually starts.

So as a Uconn fan I feel that I have at least 2 more seasons of Ollie before I have to seriously worry.

I mentioned Kevin Ollie’s coaching prospects in an earlier thread I started but an excellent posting by Grant and a very good point by Jayhawks about Kevin being a UConn guy. I had forgotten that Kevin had played his college career at UConn so he must have a lot of loyalty to the team.

Personally I’d like Kevin to remain at UConn for a few more years, he is only 41 years old so has no need to rush to the NBA. Also as his reputation increases, he’ll be able to attract very good recruiting classes plus other top college coaches like Coaches K and Boeheim cannot go on forever so Kevin’s standing and stature will grow if his success continues. UConn is also a big NCAA college with a huge basketball tradition so it would seem unlikely that another college would be able to nab Kevin.

The idea of working with Phil Jackson would be intriguing but I think Phil would probably want to hire a proven NBA coach or someone from his coaching tree. If Kevin did go to the NBA, I’d like him to go into a situation like Brad Stevens did on a developing team where he can bring on and mould young players.
