so i love the idea of a giant point and or point foward , their one in the same. i like the kid kyle anderson but due to his lack of hops ,speed ,and quickness and so on. i just feel like he wont become a star ,or even that good of a role player in the nba but there are those iq players with massive skills that take over the game and use what the have to the max of their ability ala larry bird, zbo and a few others,butim not seeing it , thats even more rare then great centers that the league is inlove with , i feel even if had solid athleticism he could be a star , i wanna get to know him as a player and get some of the greatest basketball minds i know of opinions

He plays alot like a young Brandon Roy…Uses his high basketball IQ,superior ball handling skills,great instincts and court vision to make up for his lack of athleticism…..Does a great job of controlling the pace of games,decent shooter and isnt afraid to attack the basket…

Roy had much better athleticism than Anderson, roy was actually very athletic but not a freak. I agree with you on his pro prospects here’s no way his slow playing style will be allowed in the more uptempo nba game today nor would it be effective

Roy was actually a pretty athletic player he just wasn’t flashy. He seemed unathletic because he didn’t really use his athleticism to tak over but rather he used his fundamental skills which Kyle does have. Kyle however is just so un-athletic that his nickname is "slow-mo" lol. I like Kyle’s game though and I think he can become a solid player in the NBA but as a role player as a a border-line starter or a good 6th man off the bench. He has the mind of a PG with the body of an unathletic wing player. He is tall and has a good wingspan which could make up for his lack of athleticism. I really hope he does succeed because I really like his style of play…I am a big fan of point forwards and Kyle is such a smooth player and when he plays its like he’s moving in slow motion lol so it looks even better when he beats his man.

 I think he’ll be able to find his niche as a role player.  Players with his smarts, skills, versatility and feel for the game are in demand.  It’s the players who look like they can’t think on their feet who have trouble finding niches as role players.  

It’s not like he’s completely devoid of good physical qualities either.  He does have very good length which will help him recover while playing off of speedy players.  Because of his length combined with his lack of lateral quickness, his ideal defensive position could very well be PF, but then the questions shift to whether or not he can develop enough strength to physically bang with the bigs.  He might be a liability on defense but I think he has a place in the league offensively.

He’s not a 1 and done..If he does he’s going to struggle right away..But with his high IQ and ball handling….I think he can be a solid nba player if he stays in college at least 2 years…

Guys like Kevin Love & Paul Pierce arent very athletic,and alot of people thought they would never become all stars…But they understood how to play the game….

I’ll take an unathletic skilled guy with a high basketball IQ anyday…Over a guy with great athletic ability but with no fundamentals……And if you look at it,they seem to have longer nba careers….

The NBA is filled with Unathletic but skilled older players..

 Livingston was extremely quick pre-injury. He used to be able to check opposing PGs with no problem.

 I can’t really make an assessment of his game yet. Athetically Larry bird actually looked even better than him. He likely be best suited coming off the bench during crunch time or when the game becomes half count oriented.

 I had read he was slow but I didn’t realize how slow until I saw him.  And this is against high school talent. He’s very skilled but the slowness applies to his jumpshot as well.  There are lot of questions about his NBA potential.

I think his biggest hurdle will be on defense.  His lateral quickness is extremely below average.  He has no chance of guarding points to small forwards.

Brandon Roy was a very underrated athlete, who got underrated because he ran a bit awkwardly and seemed to prefer running slow for the most part but he was very quick in close quarters and a very good leaper.  Pierce was a very good athlete in his younger days with an excellent first step and great lateral quickness.  There’s no comparison to be made with Anderson.  And Love, he’s an underrated athlete too and bullishly strong.  Anderson’s not an underrated athlete at all.

Kevin Durant, Shane Battier, Brook Lopez and Kevin Love werr all considered risk coming into the NBA because of their lack of athleticism and questions regarding whether or not they could guard their position in the NBA. Grevies Vasquez coming out of MD was said to be so unathletic he’d never probably make an NBA team. Well all them players are doing fine thanks to basketball instincts which can’t be taught.

Kyle Anderson don’t have freakish athleticism but he does have freak heiggt and length for a player with his skill set. He’s 6’9 wit a 7″ wingspan and thinks the game. His length will enable him to guard wings because he sees plays develop and knows where to be. And he’s not as unathletic as he plays. Remenber when people were calling James Harden and Steph Curry too unathletic?

UCLA is actually going to play faster this year and a large part. of the reason why is cuz Anderson will grab boards at a high rate and push the ball up the floor. He’s actually best suited. for a quick tempo, this is why he was a star in AAU and plays well in All Star games.

Anderson has one and done potential and I expect a big freshman year. Something like 12.5 ppg, 7 rpg and 4apg with a steal n a block thrown in.

His game is very similar to Lamar Odom for the Clippers except Anderson isn’t a great shooter. Boris Diaw is another comparison. I kno that hell certainly have a better career then Terrence Williams who is a great example of how little athleticism means compared to your knowledge of the game.

I think Anderson will eventually be in top 5 pick consideration.

 I dunno about UCLA playing a faster game.  Ben Howland always plays a slower paced game.  They’re a pretty big team as well and when Josh Smith is in the game, you know the tempo’s gonna be slow.  As good as Kyle is good at the grab-n-go, he still can’t push the tempo like the speedy guards.

Lamar wasn’t a great shooter coming out of college and still isn’t, but what he did have that Kyle doesn’t was a great first step.  I think he’s more comparable to Diaw, but  Kyle’s a more versatile offensive player at the same stage.  He’s got all these weird herky-jerky moves: step backs, fadeaways over either shoulder, euro steps, one-legged fades, scoops, leaners, runners, etc.  His ranginess and his pace also make his moves more effective then they’d appear to be.  It might not be pretty but there a number of ways he can get his shot off.  He might not always be able to create space, but he’s got a high release and he fades, effectively, on almost every single shot.  Not saying he’s as good of a shooter as Dirk, but against SFs he does have a very tough to contest shot release that he can get off from different spots on the floor.

Thank u RudeBoy for remenbering 19134 is my zip code…. Anyways Kyle Anderson is a consistent outside shot away from being elite. It’d be interesting to see if he can’t grow an inch. and spurt up to 6’10 at which point he’d truly be the next Odom with the ability to become a very unique PF Anderson was UCLA best player in China without Bazz putting up games of 20 n 10. Boris Diaw is a very good starting point in trynaedict how Anderson will impact the NBA. But Anderson has way better handles then Diaw, more moves and is way more creative. He’s a surefire lotto pick when he comes out and depending on how good his outside shot looks he could move into the top 5. A player his size with his ball handling and passing ability becomes a major weapon if he can also spacethe floorwit a money top of the key shot. Teams like Detroit, Sacramento, Cleveland, Washington and Portland could all use his services right now.
