If he stay Dukes backcourt is deep…Irving and Rivers

If he goes is he still a top 5 pick without playing most of the year?

supposedly he’s supposed to come back and play in Duke’s first game. I don’t see why he wouldn’t leave, he’s probably a top 3 pick.

So if he stays they start:
    Irving
    Rivers

    If he leaves, they start??
    Curry??
    Rivers

Neither of those guys are really PGs…  He would make that team fantastic if he did return.

Whenever you are basically asured of being a top 5 pick you leave. Now, the more intereting question is does he play??? If this was your son, brother, bestfriend and he asked for your opinion would you tell him to play,or to sit out???

I’m not saying this because I’m a Duke fan, but he should stay.

I think he COULD be a top 4 pick, but there’s potential he might not be. We seen players fall in the past. I think if he returns and plays next to Austin Rivers, he could increase his stock as a playmaker/leader for this team. Right now, I think people will have questions about him, mainly because he played 8 games. Add that to the question of: how good of a defensive PG is he and I think he should return.

That plus Bill Simmons brought this up and I thought it was interesting: Why leave college after playing 8 games, to go to a league where they WILL be locked out and probably play 50 games (where I read and saw from Larry Coon that’s the minimum to have a "season")?

    Enter the draft.

    1) Secure draft position. He’s pretty sure to be a top 5 pick. There is no upside to staying another year in terms of draft position. Next years draft will probably be stronger, so there’s actually a bigger risk that he could drop in position

    2) Injury risk – if he were to get injured again, for whatever reason, that would be a much bigger issue for his draft stock

    3) Lockout – If there is a lockout, it’s likely to be shortened season. If so, this may actually be GOOD for the rookies, who won’t have to play a full 82 game season.

    My counterpoint to Thparadox

If Kyrie Irving came back, how many point guards in college would be better then him? Realistically….

True, but even then, the original injury was a fluke. I dobut he gets a Torn ACL or anything, especailly running the pace AND Coach K knowing what the deal is that he’s going pro.

If your a rookie, you need more reps…not less.

Isnt Chris Quinn going to Duke, he could give them some valueable minutes. Your right about those two not being the best PGs yet I believe this is a great oppurtunity for Rivers to show us what hes made of. If he can play the PG position well he is a for sure Top 3 pick.

Quinn Cook is going to Duke.  Chris Quinn can be seen wearing a suit behind the Miami bench.

From what I’ve heard Duke does not expect him back.

I don’t see him returning. He’s missed a significant amount of time, but his injury likely isn’t going to hinder his career much longer, and he proved that he was probably the best overall PG in the nation when he did play. His stock also can only lower by returning.

He should come out this year.  He is probably the safest pick in the draft, by far the best point guard in the draft, and should be a top 2-3 overall pick.  Next year’s draft class looks like it has more talent so coming out this year makes sense.  Returning has an element of risk involved and in reality he can probably only hurt his stock by returning.

Cook is a PG. And Rivers could easily play guard with Curry and be fine. Even with those 3, that is a deep backcourt. Irving would just make it ridiculous, but i dont see that happening.

His decision will be pretty tough. Especially since he is friends with Austin Rivers. But I think he will declare. He seems like a pretty down to earth guy but I don’t think he would turn down the millions (and I mean millions) of scouts that are just drooling over him and can’t wait to draft him come late June.

To go or not go….until 2012. Sure if he stayed there is a chance for injury or going 11th instead of top 3 but there is a little talked about curse for the graduating true PGs for Duke. That would be, getting picked early, having a great start to a rookie year and then getting into a career ending accident (i.e, Hurly and j williams) Then your doomed to sitting in a room with Dick Vitale and Digger, trying to get a word in between nonsensical rants or no one knows where the hell you went.
