I just dont see it with this kid.. I know there’s a lot of guys on this site who are completely enamored with him but i just dont see it.

I honestly think this kid is going to be a huge bust.

I watched a Ton of ACC games this year and got to see a lot of this kid, and i didnt see much that i liked.

for those of you who compare him to dwight howard, i dont think he will be that good. The aggresiveness of Howard mixed with his brute strength and his attitude separate the two players.

Sure favors is 6’11” 260 and pretty strong but he’s very passive from what ive seen, Dwight howard wants to dunk on you on every play, i see none of that from Favors.

I would say their offensive skill sets are pretty similar, as in neither of them can do anything at all more than 5 feet from the goal. If they can get in the paint, their offense is rendered useless.

Defensively i dont see a great player either. Sure favors is athletic, but he’s not the most athletic guy out there.

I dont think he will be THAT great of a weakside or help defender. He doesnt work his tail off like a player in the Joakim Noah mold and he’s not quite as athletic as a dwight howard or a young KG however he does have promise.

The kid doesnt have the greatest basketball IQ either as i’ve seen him get lost on plays or miss assignmetns.

I dont see him as a great post defender either. Players like Perkins and Shaq are good post defenders because they are basically too large to move. Dwight howard is good because he’s as strong as a bull. Favors isnt the strongest guy in the world and i could see him getting pushed around by more agressive players in the league.

All in all i see this guy as being a good athlete who is able to finish well at the rim.

He is, for the most part, incapable of creating his own offense from the block (this is why i dont like the Al Horford comp)

He could be good at finishing plays that others set up for him.

And i think he will be a decent to good defender from the weakside and a just decent post defender.

You guys may hate when i say this but, i think he will be a bust and not worthy of a top 5 pick.

I dont see him as being great at anything and he’s not particularly skilled either. I get that he’s an upside pick but i dont think he has the right approach to the game to succeed in the nba.

I want to hear why you guys like him as much as you do.

Im not really High on Favors either.

I predicted Johnson would be a first round pick before the season, but to me hes actually being over hyped. He brings some skills, but i think their zone defense hid his d. Hell be a decent though, he has some good skills, but hes not a top 5 pick to me.

Favors i don know, i think the discrepancy of guard play is just an excuse, Hes not all that ready offensively, and Frankly Lawal was better this season. He does have upside though, but he could just be another Tyrus Thomas.

I agree with everything he said….I’m telling you guys. Derrick Favors is no Dwight Howard or Amare Stoudemire.

hes 6’11 260 now? wow didnt kno that coulda sworn he was more like 6’10 245 when i saw him at the acc tournament. but anyway its jus hype with him like many players. people are always looking 4 the next big thing and hes obviously tabbed it. the way he dominated in high school was pretty impressive an people jus expect him to translate that to the nba. but i think he will prob be a dominate player in the nba in about 3 or 4 years. i think he will pan out to be a great face up and back to the basket player. and probably be pretty decent down low defending the paint. i hope he succeeds

right there you just compared him to i believe dwight/shaq/perkins… favors measured EXACTLY the same as dwight…. which means he will probably be just as strong… i think favors will be better than dwight offensively, worse defensively, but a much better free throw shooter…

Better than Dwight offensively? As he’ll average more than the 20.7 ppg Dwight Howard put up in his best scoring season?

Favors will be an all star barring injury IMO. I watched every ACC game and you’re wrong saying he is not agressive and doesn’t work hard . And yes he can do create his own offense outside of 5 feet. Also Favors is an excellent shot blocker don’t know why you don’t think he will be a great defender. You do realize Favors weighed more than Dwight Howard at the same stage right? Also he DOES NOT have a low basketball IQ. H

I would not compare Favors to Dwight Howard even though there measurables are almost identical at the same stage. A lot of people on here are underrating Favors it’s not even funny. At worst he will be a solid pro….

Would not suprise me if Favors averages more than that. He is much more skilled than Howard at the same stage….

Wow……What has he shown to be able to score 20 ppg? Nothing. He’s not anywhere near aggressive or tenacious to score like Howard does. He’ll probably have a few seasons where he gets like 13 ppg and 7 boards, but he’s shown no potential to be a 20 ppg scorer.

Really? He averaged 18 and 9 in his last 11 games at Tech when he started to stay out of foul trouble and his offensive game can only improve. How is he not aggressive? Many times he was open in good position but did not get the ball. Just because he does yell or trash talk when he dunks the ball doesn’t mean he isn’t tenacious.

I feel as if were underestimating Favors. I think he’s very talented and I feel he could be a future all star.

I like Favors but I think his first year will be like 12 9 and he will be very raw and Favors could be better than Howard offensively and not average 20 points. Howard use his strength and athleticism to score. Favors may be more versatile scoring but I doubt he overtakes Lopez as the the go to guy in the post.

Favors is a prospect with the dreaded word “potential”.

The real question should be; is Favors “potential” (and the associated risk) worth picking him ahead of Turner, Cousins or a couple other prospects? Is Favors worth the #2 pick? Is favors worth the #2-3 pick knowing he will probably sit on the bench the first season or two?

I can’t stand Dwight Howards offensive game. I feel he should be further along then he is. The free throws hurt him too. With that said…. Howard started for the Magic at 18 right out of highschool. No way Favors could do that even after a year of college. Comparing Howard to Favors is an insult to Howard.

Stop hating on Favors…You people don’t realize how good this guy is going to be. He was much better than Horford (his accurate comparison) as a freshmen and didn’t have good guard play. GT has very talented guards, but none of them are good passers. And you say Favors isn’t the most athletic guy in the world? Actually…I would beg to differ and he will be one of the most athletic pf’s in the game. Also, he is a very good defender. Yes, he does get into foul trouble, but so did a lot of great big men at the same stage. Let’s not forget, he is only 18. He is very strong and has an amazing wingspan for a pf. Offensively, he is raw, but he shows great glimpes. Let’s also not forget, GT’s inability to consistently shoot the 3 caused opposing defenses to collapse on Favors and pressured him to turn the ball over. He is a decent post player, with some good initial moves, but he does need to work on being patient in the post. He shows a decent jumper, but he has a good, fundamental stroke that should develop in a couple years. He is an amazing shot blocker and rebounder for a pf. Lastly, he is very mature for his age and he does work hard…Where you get some of these assumptions is strange to me. Look for Favors to be a rich mans Al Horford.

I am good when people have a definite opinion. It is better than people being wishy washy. If Favors works out and people start comparing him to Howard one of the comparsion I have used then everyone that were saying bust will be looking like they dont know what they are talking about. Also how many superstars have been drafted lately. Superstars are rare. All star regardless if they are actually picked or not but guys putting up All star numbers happens more frequent but is not a certainty. Favors to me is a perfect compliment to Lopez and that is why he will be successful. I don’t know why Philly would take him when they have Maurice Speights who is very similiar to Favors in size but maybe not as athletic but definitely a more polished scorer.

who cares what he did over 11 games. youre judged by a awhole season. And no hes not very agressive and had a hard time creating outside of 5 feet. good lord every scouting report says the same thing yet BALL atill wants to disreguard it. hes raw on offense and is potential. will he become a very good player?..maybe but its not a sure thing. hes not duncan, lebron, amare, shaq. hes not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination. him going to the nets would be perfect because the team will let him develop. even the nets have said heWILL NOT START his first year and he MIGHT start by midseason of his second year. that tells you how ready he is or how not ready he is. he has very nice physical gifts but thats all he has right now because he’s not very skilled. bascially ball4life is saying every body whops watched him(from fans to nba scouts to draftexpress scouting report) is wrong about how hes raw and doesnt always play aggressive on offense

you have to realize there are some favors fans on here that no matter what you say negitive about him you are wrong. i learned that early int he season when he didnt dominate. they will have excuses for him everytime instead of looking at reality and see that his buzz is based on what he could potentially do. not one team has mentioned anything about him coming in and being a force from day 1. every single team says what he MIGHT be able to do in the future. wall- what he can do now and in the future as well as cousins, wesley, turner. Anyone who has watched him knows he has trouble creating his own offense. even fans say as much buy mentioning how he didnt score much becaus ehe didnt have good guards. point being he needed good guards to set him up instead of him getting the ball and creating his own offense

I disagree with all of you.

Every single person who posted in this topic.

Derrick Favors will not be a bust nor a superstar, because Quincey is going to hunt, kill and gut him for sport. He won’t eat him though, as he is too raw.
