The Bulls are reportedly open to trading Deng for a lottery pick in order to avoid luxury tax. A lot of late lottery teams are either deep at the SF position or are looking to rebuild and have no real use for a guy like Deng. So, what team would actually make this trade?

Maybe Houston? If they could somehow swing Lowry, that 16th pick and some of those young trading pieces (Marcus Morris, Chandler Parsons) for a legit Center (I could see a 3 team trade working out where the Rockets come away with Gasol) that’s a lethal playoff starting lineup. Don’t know what team would do that though.

Tricky situation for Chicago. Would they go deeper into the draft then a lottery pick? Maybe for a guy that fits a role like Jeff Taylor who can be a lockdown defender and solid shooter for a cheaper price. Or if PJ3 is still available it seems like a place like Chicago would be ideal for developing his skills on both sides of the ball. Seems like not enough for Deng though. Thoughts?

Its not odd for a team to invite a prospect that they no doubt have no way of drafting, but for the agent of Barnes to agree to let him workout with them, he must believe that something is up. Bulls must potentially be looking to move into the top 5 picks. The team I suggest is WSH with the 3rd pick. WSH has been moving high picks for young vets for the past years. The fact that they dealt McGee for Nene prob means that they want smart, hardworking vets around Wall. I can see WSH interested in bringing Deng onto the squad. #3 pick might seem like a lot for Deng, but remember theyve already invested high picks in Wall and Velsely. If they want the absolute best out of them, they are not looking to bring in Drummond ot T-Rob. Vesely looked good at the end of the year playing the 4 next to Nene. As for Wall, we may argue that Beal or MKG is a great fit, but again they prob want to being in a vet than can help them get to playoffs asap. Winning is the next step in Wall improving into a star. If Im WSH, Ill force CHI to take Blatche off my hands. Ill say #3 and Blatche for Deng?

Remember that the Bulls have the Bobcats pick, protected till 2016.  It will probably be one of the pieces in a possible trade.

There is one problem with this deal.

The Bulls risk pretty much everything as they may end up with the 3rd pick and w/o Barnes as he may be drafted by Charlotte.

MKG will be their pick and while he can match the defensive capabilities of Deng, he is nowhere near him on the offensive end. Granted that Boozer has been on a downward slope ever since he got traded to the Bulls, they’d be left without a clear cut second option on offense.

Barnes and Rose, if it happens, is a scary as hell combination that’s for sure..

In this scenerio the Bulls do the trade on draft night, if Barnes falls to #3.

This makes no sense to me from the Bulls point of view. Luol Deng is really solid and underrated.

Instead, they should use the Amnesty on Boozer.

Rose is probably out for most of next year. I think it’s smarter to dump Boozer and take a gamble that someone decent is available in free agency.

With Rose contract kicking in, his plus Noah and Dengs takes up a lot of the space already. Amnestying Boozer doesnt create a lot of space for them to sign any body of significance.

As much as Deng has grown on me over the years, it is time for the Bulls to look at building something around Rose and shedding some cap in the process.  I dont think Blatche is anything special, but he could be a trade piece later or allow the Bulls to trade one of their other bigs.  I would do this deal if I were Bulls.  I’d also look to shop Noah for pieces as his value is high, and what Noah provides can be done by players on lesser salaries.  Let a new look young team play together in 12-13 while Rose recovers from injury and the possibility of a high draft pick in next years draft would give them a nice young core with Rose and they would still have Charlotte’s pick down the road to package for the missing piece.

Not sure about how the contracts add up

But what about a trade where:

    Bulls get:
    Courtney Lee
    Jordan Hill
    World Peace or M. Barnes
    14th pick

    Houston gets:
    Omar Asik
    Pau Gasol
    Ramon Sessions
    29th pick

    Lakers get:
    Luol Deng
    Kyle Lowry

Something like that.  Again, not sure how the salaries match up.

Why trade for a lottery pick this year? Amnesty Boozer this summer. Have Deng and Rose sit out all year and come away with a top 5 pick the next year. You save luxury tax on Boozer, keep Deng and add a lotto pick. Does this constitute tanking? I don’t think so. Nothing wrong in my eyes giving 2 severely injured players the season off(they would miss most of the year anyway). At best, being them back in limited minutes in the final 10 games or so to knock off the rust.

If you swap out world peace/Barnes for Kevin Martin you have a shot. Bulls would prob want Scola too. They love Deng and Asik is a much better asset than he is being given credit for.

Bulls get screwed in that deal. They lose their best perimeter defender and 2nd best scorer and a nice defensive backup to get a high energy PF with little skill, a solid player in Lee and an aging Artest while not being able to move up enough and get Barnes.

Lakers give up Gasol, but get back Scola, get a huge upgrade at PG and a huge upgrade at the 3. They easily win that deal.

i can see toronto offering their pick, jose calderon and ed davis or james johnson for loul deng he would fit well with dwayne casey defensive system.

That’s not terrible because Chicago gets a solid backup PG and a solid backup big, but I don’t think it makes up for the loss of Deng. I don’t think they can get anyone at 9 to replace him either.
