I know its summer league and it seems like everyone can scroe 40 or more….plus he did take 32 shots, and I don’t think he will be jacking it like that if there is an upcoming season…but…still impressive none the less….http://www.zagsblog.com/2011/07/20/marshon-brooks-drops-48-in-summer-league-game/#more-54907

48 points on 32 shots in Summer League. For some reason, I just can’t get anymore excited than I was when he was scoring at a similar reason for a Providence team that didn’t even make the NIT.

48 points on 32 shots isn’t bad in summer league, assuming he didn’t also take 20 free throws.

If he went 20 for 32 with some made 3’s and a few free throws then that is pretty good. I would also be interested if he also rebounded and passed well.

John Lucas III dropped 28? Jamario Moon dropped 25? Marshon’s 48 doesnt even seem impressive anymore…

could be the next Jamal Crawford at best.

A real threat coming off the bench.

Ceiling! With his potential and a great defensive coach in Avery, he could be one of this draft’s best players. We know he can score but he also can rebound and play D. This kid was the best player on his college team so he is still in scorer mode because that’s what he is best at doing. I seen him last year and he is a monster on the boards! Matter fact he average around 7.5 a game.

Im not to excited by this, because he has proven he can score against big-time competition at least on the college level. He did well at Providence and Providence didnt fair well as a team, but it certainly wasnt his fault.

His style of play wouldn’t work with players that have other good scorers around him, and you wouldn’t want him to be your first option. He’s such a volume shooter and can be inefficient, hes almost like Nick Young but a better rebounder.

Some of you are so ignorant… Marshon Brooks will be an elite scorer on the next level. How was he a volume scorer on the college level when he shot 48.4% percent from the floor and 35% from beyond the arc, when you compare him to the only player who averaged more than he did(Jimmer) who shot 45%from the floor and 39.6% from beyond the arc, he is actually a better scorer than Jimmer and did it against better competition… Ok, Providence wasn’t good as a team but he kept them in games and took over games single handedly when teams objective was to shut him down… His game is smooth as silk and he is only getting better, working with Tim Grover who said he reminds him of a young "Kobe" and I see it in his game. Just as Jimmer, when you are counted on to do so much on offense, you cant go all out on defense. He has the length, the size and the right coach to help with defense, He rebounded the ball very well (7 rebounds/per) against other teams who had quality bigs, so scoring is not all he does… Stop HATING on this kid and watch him work!!! Very seldom a player goes to the NBA as a "COMPLETE" player, there is a learning curve for everybody, but if you can score the ball and have the drive to be great then you will BE..ie KOBE, MJ, KD

Unfortunately, I agree with Mr. Who Dat. (Although, the term ignorant is typically more applicable in a moral/ethical sense, not sure I’d use it on a basketball message board.)

Marshon Brooks landed in an absolutely perfect situation. He’s on a team that needs length desperately, so that’ll get him on the floor. He’s on a team that lacks a wing player. He’s on a team with a player who is one of the best distributors in the league, so he’s sure to get the ball in the best position to score. He’s got a coach who will help him improve his weaknesses, instill a great work ethic in him, and help him understand defensive principles. They’re also fairly young, as Lopez is 23 and Williams is 27. NJ is not too far from where he played college ball, so he’ll have a fan base. On top of that, the Nets will be moving soon and their new owner knows how to create a lot of buzz.

Sometimes the stars align perfectly for a player to be successful, and I think that’s what’s happened in this case. Marshon Brooks is my darkhorse candidate for ROY.

Ya if there are other scorers on the floor Marshon seems to disappears in games. In his junior season he averaged 14ppg but Jamine Peterson and Sharaud Curry were the guys taking the big shots and keeping them in games.

I too was very high on Marshon Brooks and felt as though he should have been a lottery pick. Something kept him out though. When he gets picked at the end of the first round, basically every GM in the league must see something major wrong with his game, especially when scoring is put at a premium. Any ideas?
