I dont know why i get the feeling that so many people dont want to see the deal get done for him to go the Nets. Whether it is direct or 4 team trade. I thought he was oginally from BK and he wife is from NY so why wouldnt he want to be here. It cant be because of Newark. Newark is minutes away from NYC. Also the Nets have the best pieces to offer to Denver. What pieces can Knicks offer. They have no draft pics( thank you isaah and walsh). So i dont see what the problem is. The Nuggets arent gonna get a better deal than what the Nets have to offer.

He was born in Brooklyn but I think he considers himself more of Baltimore native so I dont think he feels a great loyalty to that team or the city. I think people are just dont want to see yet another Miami Heat/Boston Celtic super trio but it is probably inevitable in NJ or NY

if he went to new jersey he would be the only player on the team who has been in an all star game. what super trio is there? brook lopez is a talented young center borderline top 5 maybe. i dont get how the super team assembly is supposed to take place in new jersey

I think this just goes to show once again that while ESPN is the site I consistently frequent for sports news, it is as much about sports entertainment as anything. I am sure a number of basketball fans have been in a frenzy when that very site announced that the trade was basically eminent and going to happen. Heck, there were even announcements of Carmelo agreeing to re-up with them. The bottom line is, ESPN has a lot to gain by releasing stories like these, and very little to lose. They did the same thing about calling Turkoglu to Portland, saying it was a done deal. They always seem to make a guarantee out of a possibility, and this can sometimes lead to, I don’t know, creating a frenzy of sports fans and viewers alike visiting their site and spouting their information. This all in all is why you have to read between the lines. For as much information as ESPN has regarding the sports world, it is not the gospel of sports, especially in things such as rumors and "inside information." Mr. Knick, this is why I think some random anonymous executive saying something about Greg Oden could indeed, not exactly be the truth. This is a much grander example of why this may not be the exact truth, because the way ESPN made this sound, it was going down, and now, it is clearly not. Were they lying? Maybe not, but let’s put it this way, they did not exactly give us the straight facts here, and were basically telling us things that in the end did not happen.

playing in NEWARK is NOTHING like playing in NEW YORK….I dont care if you can DRIVE to NYC… you are associated with where u play….if you play in JERSEY, the media DOES NOT CARE, you DO NOT HAVE FANS, and NYC does not give a SHIT about you. Sure you can spend weekends in NYC, but you are still some scrub from NJ.

so NBA.COM reports that according to a source the deal that was on the table is “dead”. maybe it will happen but obviously not this time and this deal.
i expect the Nuggets to wait how the season goes and then sooner or later if he doesnt change his mind on the extension explore trades again…

Philly got the best offer there is and I know, I know, I know it was reported Philly was not on his list of teams but they are a great option for him.  Philly is right in the middle of Baltimore, and New York, both cities are only an hour away on 95.  And this cities sports scene is thriving right now plus we have a rich tradition of basketball greats playing for us.  Not only that we offer the best combination out of New York and Jersey to immediatley come in a play with.  Iggy and Melo are tailored made to be playing with each other.  Jrue Holiday is going to be a great PG, and has the potential to be one of the best in the NBA.  This year will be his coming out party.  Elton Brand is a better low post scorer then anybody he played with in Denver, and is finally fully healthy, this is the first offseason in 3 years where he wasn’t rehabbing and he came into camp 20 pounds lighter then last year and last year he played 76 games.

Not only that Doug Collins is the best coach out of the 3.  He turned Jordan and Pippen into winners getting them to their first playoffs together.  He would love the opportunity to coach Iggy and Melo in their primes and has already said that Jrue Holiday is the best PG he has had the opportunity to coach.

I dont think people understand the differnce between LIVING CLOSE to a city and PLAYING FOR a city. Melo doesn’t want to be in New York solely because he wants to go out clubbing in NYC and visit Times Square on his days off. He wants to PLAY FOR New York. He wants the fame that comes with NYC, he wants one of the largest fanbases in the NBA and he wants to do it with his buddy Amare Stoudamire. He is not making a scene in Denver just to settle to represent some second class city and remain in the shadows of the rest of the 03 class. It makes ZERO sense for him to leave a solid team in Denver to go to some scrubby team in Pennsylvania or ESPECIALLY New Jersey.

i agree with bkballer………….i really think he dont want to be in the shadows of the rest of the 03 class he wants a big stage and ny will give him dat ………….i just find it really funny how both players seem to be dong the same moves..paul asked for a trade then backs out…now melo is doing the same …they both will end up in ny just my gut feeling

Turner is better than Favors…Thad Young is going to be a Tayshaun Prince type Sf next to Billups…Kapono’s 7 million in expiring cash is gold…future draft picks and K-Mart coming off the books with Kapono and JR…

Amare and Melo is match made in Hell ,..It won’t work if Amare gets hurt or they don’t get CP3 somehow(Walsh selling his soul to the devil)

Melo and Iggy with Holiday maturing would be a great trio…Look at how good Iggy looked next to Durant and Westbrook…Melo and Holiday can easily provide him the role he needs(that all around player next to a Star Scorer and great PG) I’ll repeat…Give that Sixers team a Defensive C and Scoring 2 Guard on the bench(although Meeks may be that guy) and that team will take off…They’ll amke the playoffs and gain everyone in the Leagues Respect when they give the Heat a run for their Money…

okay so to the ones saying NY Homers: it was at least reported that philly wasnt one of carmelos destinations where He wanted to go! so guess what is up: many teams could offer good packages for melo and better packages than the knicks nets bulls or whoever was ob that obscure list! but unless you don’t want to make a possible one year rental at a high price your package is irrelevant! it comes down to either the place where melo wants to go or a team foolish enough to give away talent and picks for a Guy possibly leaving after one year!!!
get over this my team could offer the best trade stuff cause guess what hopefully your GM is smart enough to not trade for a player who doesnt sign an extension with you!

homers would be if we were talking irrationally. it is VERY well known that NY is his top destination and that he has a very short list of teams he would sign an extension with. The only real thing up for debate is whether he would sign with houston or NJ, the rest is a FACT.

Woah BK Ballers talk about scrubby teams your knicks havent won a championship in like 40 effin years!!! 40 years you havent won the big dance.  And not only that when was the last time the Knicks even made it to the playoffs?  I can’t even remember.  And not only that all this talk about being the best city in the world, and wanting to play on the big stage, and yadi, yadi, yada…What did that get you this summer?  Not LeBron, Wade, or Bosh.

If Melo was smart he’d come to a winning organization with a hall of fame coach.

And the only way the Knicks could be better then the Sixers is if they get Melo.  All of the Sixers talent is home grown.  But then again the Knicks don’t have that opportunity because you’s traded away like every first round pick you guys ever had.  And when you finally get one you draft Gallo over Eric Gordon and Brook Lopez and you took Jordan Hill over Jrue Holiday, Brandon Jennings or even Demar Derozan

But I will admit Gallo may be the best shooter in the world one day so that pick wasn’t bad but Jordan Hill over your biggest need PG?  And their happened to be 4 stud PG still left in the draft.  wow. And Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison, and Ty Lawson are all better then Ray Felton.

Knicks have had awful management for the past decade… its a lot better now. Jennings is overrated, Collison was unknown so that draft blunder is easy to pick apart in hindsight. Philly hasn’t been exactly awesome at drafting either. Plus whens the last time Philly was relevant?!!

FACT is Knicks were better than Philly last year and had a MUCH better offseason even when philly got turner handed on a silver platter. So its safe to assume they will be better this year too.

Yeah but at least philly didnt lose by far their best player last year like the knicks did in david lee.

And they added Evan Turner whos a stud, and they are a young team..

Amare is a MILLION times better than Lee. Don’t let the stats fool you, I like Lee, but he padded his numbers on an awful team with zero size. He scored at will because he was 3 inches shorter and faster than any center and rebounded because every other knick was allergic to the paint, his PF was Jared Jeffries… enough said. Due to that size difference he was also probably the biggest liability on defense in the whole NBA. Knicks lacked an identity last year, something they got by getting Amare. Knicks also had a PG thats not even top 50 in the NBA starting last year and got a solid starting caliber PG who is going to break out in a run and gun system because thats what he was built for… not Browns slow controlling system.
