On a team with a loaded backcourt i think MCW might be the best of the bunch, and it seems as though Boeheim loves him; the only question is will he get enough minutes to showcase his abilities. Most likely Jardine and Triche will start then there is Dion Waiters (who knows his future on the team) and Mookie Jones will also get some minutes (even though hes a black hole). So with all these quality guards on Syracuse how good do you think MCW will do during his freshman year.

I think he can reasonably expect close to what Waiters got last year as a freshman, around 16 a night, but that could be closer to 18-23. Cuse does have a loaded backcourt but Waiters might not return and I’ve only ever seen Mookie play SF when it wasn’t garbage minutes. While Scoop and Triche will play 30 mins a night, what will get MCW playing time is the lack of relative overall front court depth. SU still has a formidable front court, but since last year, Jackson graduated, Da’Shonte Riley transferred and Fab Melo might be gone to do a criminal charge (and he stinks anyways), with another fr., Rakeem Christmas, being the only addition. This means Kris Joseph will likely spend some time at PF and they’ll frequently go with a 3-guard lineup with Scoop/Triche/Carter-Williams. If Waiters returns, however, he might very well get undeservedly buried in the depth chart even though Boeheim really likes him.

    1) Dion Waiters leaving was just a rumor.

"Ohk for everybody wanting to kno the answer YES I’m coming back to syracuse next year," Waiters posted on his Twitter account.

    2) Fab Melo’s criminal charge you speak of was him ripping off his girlfriend’s car turn signal. I don’t think he’ll be gone for a criminal charge. Melo started doing better towards the end of the season. He’s definitely a project, but if he stays out of foul trouble and works on his conditioning he can put up 5 ppg and 7 rpg next year.

    3) Mookie Jones averaged 10.5 mpg in his freshmen season and those minutes got cut back to 8 last year. While he does shoot well while he is in he doesn’t do anything else and is just a liabilty. Boeheim will make sure Jardine Triche MCW Joseph Fair Southerland and Waiters all see time at the PG SG and SF positions before Mookie gets in.

    4) I expect a rotation of Christmas at PF and Melo at C and Keita playing both PF/C. If a 4th big is needed Boeheim did turn to both Joseph and Fair last year. Fair does a great job on the boards for a 203 lb forward averaging 4 rpg in 18 mpg.

With 5 people on the floor and 200 minutes of playing time I see the mpg going like this:

    Jardine     29MPG     MCW         15MPG

    Triche       30MPG    Waiters        15MPG

    Joseph      30MPG     Southerland  9MPG      Jones      2MPG

    Christmas 18MPG      Fair             16MPG     Walkons 2MPG

    Keita        22MPG      Melo           12MPG

@sammybuckeye…dont ever comment on anything ‘Cuse related again…your opinion and reasoning remind me of Greg Odens career so far… (too soon?)

@CuseFlynn…you pretty much hit it on the head.

Its a perfect situation for Cuse because yes Jardine is good, but theres just something about his play that loses games for us sometimes. Hes too un-predictable and his shot selection is a little too suspect for my liking. But now Jimmy has the luxury of sticking MCW in there when Jardine starts playing like a fool. I love Triche’s game and i think Jimmy will end up playing MCW and Triche together a lot. Joseph is a stud. Christmas is a BEAST. Melo has a lot of potential still…hes just kinda weird and dumb? I like how Keita just does the dirty work. I like what CuseFlynn said about Fair playing a lot of PF…i think you will see a lineup of Triche, MCW, Joseph, Fair, and Christmas a lot…

Bmore_DC, can you please cite one instance in which something I’ve said about Syracuse basketball has proven to be so heinously incorrect that it prompted you to call me out? Is it because I don’t follow Dion Waiters’ twitter and someone disagrees about the likely consequences of Fab Melo’s actions? I’m not saying I’m an expert on Cuse basketball but why did you feel the need to make fun of me?

It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. Jardine is the senior who plays like the best player in the country at times, but makes some costly mistakes at others. If MCW is as good as hyped up, He could potentially steal Jardine’s minutes. If Jardine starts slacking we should have a great plan B. My only worry is if Jardine is choking in the final minutes. Do we put in the freshmen to take over the team or stick with the senior?

Oh and I completely forgot to mention about Trevor Cooney. He’ll be good as well if he plays. I personally think he should redshirt this year seeing as there are 4 or 5 other guards who will see the court before him. I haven’t seen him play much, but he looks like a threat from deep so maybe if we need a 3 ball type of guy like Rautins he could get some minutes.

FYI Waiters said he’d stay at Cuse back in April. And if you’d like more info on Fab Melo’s story check it out here:

Carter-Williams isn’t stealing Jardine’s time. He MIGHT steal Triche’s time, but he’s not a threat to take Jardine’s time. Scoop will be the leader of the team next year

Triche went 11.3 ppg, 2.9 apg, and 2.7 rpg. Scoop averaged 12.8 ppg, 5.8 apg, and 2.2 rpg. Their very close, but Triche is definitely a better scorer in my eyes while Scoop can pass even though he does rack up 2.9 t.o. a game. Scoop is inconsistent. He’ll drop 20 points for 5 straight games then disappear for then next few only getting 4 points. Triche had 14 games of double digit points in Big East play (along with three 9 point games.) While Jardine also had 14 double digit games he also scored 0 against Northern Iowa and Cornell, and scored two points in a 1-8 shooting performance in a loss to Nova.

Triche really impressed me with his defensive and offensive presence and I think he’s due for a breakout year. If I had to guess, this will be Triche’s team this year, not the Seniors in Jardine and maybe even Joseph.

On a team that lost 6 regular season games last year, Triche was the guy who stepped up to the challenege usually. He may not have hit the winning or go ahead shot late in the game, but he always kept us in it.
