Mr. Terrell’s theory could very well be true and it wouldn’t surprise me but I think the last paragraph just about sums it up.

phila9012Participantyour race has nothing to do with your opinion. The point is no one cares about race in america.
0- Posted on: Thu, 11/15/2012 - 4:39am #728342
druneave3ParticipantYou are blind if you don’t think race is an issue in America. That is why this wouldn’t surprise me, but I don’t think it is the case.
Why would I get -21 for this post, I thought it was an interesting theory because we have never seen any thing like this in the modern NBA.
I will repeat myself, I think the last paragraph of the article just about sums it up…………."The theory that basketball fans are more likely to pay to watch white players than black players has been debunked by the last 30 years of NBA history. There’s no chance the T-Wolves have a racist master plan in the works."

RUDEBOY_ParticipantBlack Leaders have much more important things then worrying about how many black players are on a basketball team….Things like black on black crime, school dropouts and unemployment should be their focus…..
1 of the Memphis Grizzlies was on a radio show over the weekend when a caller asked him about the lack of black players on the TWolves?
He said he never had the thought they were looking to add only white players, but alot of people he knew were constantly making jokes and asking him about it..He said he called former teammate Dante Cunningham and asked him,he said Cunningham told him the Twolves wanted to install a system similar to the european style..He said Cunningham loves it,becuz it allows him to get more touches…..It must be true because Cunningham is averaging career highs in Pts 9/Rbs 6/FG 53%…………..

sheltwon3ParticipantI think they may have gotten more European players but I would not consider that they are looking to have an All White team. I think people go overboard with that. Some black people should not try to speak for the rest of us when they have no clue what they are talking about.

SubZeroParticipantOh my gosh, Boston only has one white guy on the team! They must hate white people.
Smh man, I normally don’t like insulting people, but quit being so ignorant. And P.S., that’s old news

eci_eliteParticipantWho cares race the Wolves actually have a pretty good team. Winning with out your two best players and Buddinger.

bobbybParticipantThis is how civil rights leaders like Al Sharpton make a living. They over exagerate things to stir the pot. You have to remember, most of these " leaders" dont have a real job. If there was no racism, they would have to back to regular work like you and I. They do a disservice to their community by poisoning their brains.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 11/14/2012 - 6:22pm #728234
CodySLCParticipantSo if the team had almost all black players like the rest of the NBA that would be ok right? People wouldn’t even be talking about it. 5 of the "white" players aren’t even from the U.S. and 5 players are black. Ever stop to think they’re just trying to put together the best team possible and race or nationality isnt a factor?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 11/15/2012 - 4:26am #728340
TallmanNYCParticipantYeah, clearly it is a racist plan because it isn’t like the team they put together can win basketball games. <sarcasm>
This civil rights leader doesn’t know anything about basketball. Glad the writer points out that Minnesota sells tickets just fine with a predominently black team and will sell teams just fine with a white team. Folks pay to see winning basketball and Minnesota has developed a team that can win.

A Lil EnglishParticipant"Tyrone Terrell, chairman of St. Paul’s African American leadership council."
How did we get a roster that resembles the 1955 Lakers?" asked Tyrone Terrell, chairman of St. Paul’s African American leadership council. "I think everything is a strategy. Nothing happens by happenstance".
This guy is either paranoid or a dumb racist scumbag. Double standards indeed.
Someone should investigate him.

RUDEBOY_Participant@BobbyB….Even in 2012 Civil Rights Leaders like Al Sharpton are needed…Recently states implemented new voter ID laws, which was targeted to supress minorities from voting..People like Sharpton marching helped draw attention to some the injustices and law makers in DC stepped in and stopped the states….
Sharpton helped brought the Trayvon Martin case to light,it had been an entire week before the national media had reported on it…
Alot of Civil Rights leaders do have jobs, some are ordinary citizens with 9 to 5,some are business owners, preachers, activists, teachers, congressmen and entertainers…..That use their voice to fight for those that dont have a voice….

joecheck88ParticipantIf the teams was going to go 4-78 I might agree with his statement but this is a competitive team that could make the playoffs. So, I don’t see where he is coming from. Race is an issue in this country because morons like this guy(not the poster, the guy in the article) keep trying to make issues. Rubio and Barea are Hispanic btw. Thought I’d point that out. This article is everything wrong in the world. Trying to make an issue out of something good.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 11/15/2012 - 9:04am #728399
topotamolderParticipantWhy do I always see the same ignorant posts in these type of threads?
Rubio is WHITE/Caucasian , same as around 85% of the population in Spain
Same with Barea, he is also white (I think his grandfather is from Spain by the way) there are all kind of races in EVERY COUNTRY. There are black spaniards, white spaniards, and even asian spaniards
This comes from a half spaniard/half puerto rican
Stop being so ingorant please
0- Posted on: Thu, 11/15/2012 - 9:29am #728404
joecheck88ParticipantYes, let us label everyone by skin color and not their culture. That’s not ignorant at all.
0- Posted on: Thu, 11/15/2012 - 9:49am #728410
topotamolderParticipantyou are assuming a guy isnt’t white just because of his language/country.
Nothing more ignorant than that.
0- Posted on: Thu, 11/15/2012 - 1:37pm #728459
joecheck88ParticipantIs Ricky Rubio or JJ Barea’s skin tone similar to that of Kevin Love? Yes!! After that, they are totally different people. They are different culturally. Why do you feel the need to break people down by skin tone? If that is how we did things, there would be what, 6 or 7 different kinds of people in this world? That is ridiculous.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantThis is such a ridiculous argument (not from you OP just in general).
When Chris Webber went out for most of the year in 2004 with an injury, the Kings started 3 white guys (Brad Miller, Peja Stojakovic and Vlade Divac) and 2 half white guys (Mike Bibby and Doug Christie). The 2001 Kings had 3 white starters (Jason Williams, Divac and Peja), 1 half white starter (Christie), and 3 of their top 4 guys off the bench were white (Scott Pollard, Hedo Turkoglu and Jon Barry). So 6 1/2 of their 9 rotation guys were white. Nobody cared and nobody in the media made a big deal out of it. Both Kings teams won 55 games.
The only thing that sells tickets (besides tradition in some cases) is winning. Bottom line is that fans will go to see a team of any ethnicity or skin colour so long as they win.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantHow did we get a roster that resembles the 1955 Lakers?" asked Tyrone Terrell, chairman of St. Paul’s African American leadership council. "I think everything is a strategy. Nothing happens by happenstance". ————————————————————————————————————————————
First of all, I’m pretty sure the 1955 Lakers did not have 5 International players.
Second of all he’s making a logical jump which is based on an original premise. He is correct that indeed there appears to be a strategy here and that few things occur by happenstance, however his conclusion to the reasons behind this is severely flawed. As the author points out the strategy might be to implement a European system and to target under the radar players, many of whom happen to be white (some of whom it seems are actually under the radar precisely because they are white and perceived as being unathletic and a poor fit for many teams who run an uptempo system).
