Just heard on Sportscenter that Michael Jordan beat Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 1-on-1… Should we be surprised by this? Does this mean anything at all? Just curious at your reactions lol I find it pretty crazy. Thoughts?

Nah.. No big deal.. They play 1on1 less than half speed and im sure that Jordan would just make MKG shoot jumpers.. Jumper vs Jumper, Jordan wins hands down.. No biggie..

Took him to the post. ha.
    .
On a side note, Faried showed MKG today what playing with a motor is.

I apologize for not going more in depth with my response but I’m tired. Kinda makes you think if he can still do it againt a good young defender (emphasis on young) maybe he could do it against others? I vote he should get in shape and lace them up for the bobcats.. call me crazy but it would be good for the team he owns. He alone would sell out games, I know every single person on this site would pay outrageous money to see MJ for even 10 minutes a night. And its not like it would hurt the Bobcats playoff chances. Lol also I know just how to do it, get Charles Barkley to call out MJ and say he couldn’t play in this league, that MJ isn’t good enough haha I think I’m overtired. Night you Bball junkies

Anybody who think MJ could compete in the NBA at 50 years old needs to be shot, he couldnt guard a damn person, MKG probably shot all jumpers on MJ, no way in hell Jordan wins if MKG is attacking the basket.

Jordan probably still has quick hands, and you don’t have to respect MKG’s outside shot, plus, if they are playing make-it-take-it then Jordan could just go to the post and work the magic.

MKG is NOT an isolation scorer, period. Whether its off the dribble, in the post or shooting jumpers, he just doesn’t have that scoring touch without someone setting him up.

So yep, not surprising to me in the slightest about MJ beating him.

Jordan is a COMPETITOR ……… you think he would play MKG and tell him to JUST SHOOT JUMPERS ? he did it to show yes I can STILL PLAY even @ 50 years old THESE YOUNG BOYS CAN’T DOMINATE ME and I will GET MINES ,I SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THESE YOUNGINS @ AGE 50!!!!! LET ALONE WIN A GAME …..SO WHAT DO YOU THINK I’D DO TO THEM IN MY PRIME

Is not nice like that. Not his style of play and Jordan more than likely barely misses a J. He is lights out from everywhere shooting I bet now. He is more than likely still strong because the last thing to go is usually your power. Very believable.

who cares tho it was a game of 1 on 1..mj and mkg were probably laughing and having a conversation while they played..possibly eating a sandwich. if mkg is trying then jordan dosnt score..i dont care who it is, a 50 year old man is not scoring on an up and coming nba player

I highly doubt that MKG tried his best. If you’re playing a 50 year old legend, one who is in most respects your boss, you don’t school him.

People saying MKG is not a one on one player lmaoooooo, do you understand MKG is an NBA player meaning he has some break down game in him, if we caught MKG playing at our local ymca in the summer for a pick up game, i’d guarantee you he’d be handling the ball and going things you’d never thought he could do. MKG is 20 yrs old? MJ is 50! he’s an legend and all that, but there’s no way MJ can beat MKG in one on one if MKG played foreal, all that “MKG doesn’t have one on one type game” stop it he’s a pro.

Of course he’d be schooling any of us in one on one he’s an NBA player. Brian Scalabrine already proved this, I also read an article that james singleton (if you even know who that is?) everyone in an pickup game, would you consider him a 1 on 1 player? Im talking among NBA level talent MGK is no where close to a 1 on 1 player.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8953510/michael-kidd-gilchrist-19-charlotte-bobcats-says-lost-michael-jordan-49-one-one-game

I read the article and MKG is pretty clear… He got beat.

“It was hard for me,” Kidd-Gilchrist, almost 20, told USA Today before the Rising Stars Challenge rookie-sophomore game at All-Star Weekend. “I lost. I lost to a 50-year-old guy. … He’s the greatest man that ever played the game.

    “Oh, yeah. He’s good.”

“No. I didn’t allow him to beat me,” he told CSNHouston. “Because that’s my boss? Nah.”

Yeah? I read the article too, and my point still stands. Unless Michael Jordan suddenly can’t read, I think MKG is just playing dead.

I think it’s hilarious that people equate a 50 year old Michael Jordan to a regular person playing pick up. Some people really don’t understand what being the GOAT really means.

I bet that Hakeem could still school any current post-player in 1v1; in a half-court setting the speed and quickness aren’t as important as skill, experience and veteran savvy.

Jordan seems really taken with MKG, I hope he can get that hitch out of his shot.

Anyone realize you play one on one half court? Could MJ keep up if he had to actually run? Just asking.

Jordan had an automatic post up fadeaway from out to 16 feet. That shot doesn’t age.

Yeah but his body does, I agree that shot was cash money because he could get it off so quick, but now his athleticism is nearly gone it would be tough to get it off

I don’t agree with that at all. He would be a role player, he could be used in certain matchups.

I’m sure if a 40 year old Jordan could get his shot off against a very athletic and long Marion, a 50 year old Jordan would have no problem getting his shot off against role players like JJ redick or Jason Terry.

This is just hype. MKG guards Lebron, Carmelo, Rudy night in night out. If he can play D on them I’m sure he can contain a 50 year old Mike especially in half court. jordan WAS great he is not anymore.

“MKG guards Lebron, Carmelo, Rudy night in night out.”

Yeah and he has 4 other guys there to help if he gets beat. Guarding Michael Jordan 1 on 1 even now would be extremely hard because he’s so much more skilled then virtually everyone else on earth.

Skilled only in the post. MJ wouldn’t be able to blow by anybody.
The thought that he can play in the NBA is nothing but noob talk.

Do you have any idea what you’re talking about? Only skilled in the post? First MJ could sag off on defense and use proper technique and positioning to keep MKG from getting by him. MKG also doesn’t have much of a handle so that makes it even easier for MJ. By the way defense is a skill. Jordan wouldn’t have to blow by him because he has enough skill to score by other means, and he could score in any way he wanted. If he wanted to he could absolutely be an effective NBA player in limited minutes. He wouldn’t be able to play long or probably in any back to back days, but you’re kidding yourself by calling it ‘noob talk’.

Dang if you think MJ can still play today at 50, 10 YEARS after he last played you need your basketball card revoked. @Y2G MJ is still skilled but LeBron,Kobe, Melo have surpassed him

I think you missed my point. When MKG is guarding Kobe, LeBron, Melo, etc. he has help because basketball games are 5 on 5. In one on one if MKG makes a mistake he doesn’t have a center protecting the rim for him, instead it’s a bucket for Jordan.

Even if Michael Jordan got back with Tim Grover and worked his ass off to get back in basketball shape, there’s no way he could compete at max level for 82 games in the NBA. He’d be getting his knees drained at half-time of every game, not be able to play in back to backs and would be taking off most practices. He’d be playing limited minutes and really only be able to play one side of the floor.

So for me, it’s more of a his body wouldn’t be able to hold up thing, not he just wouldn’t have the skill set. He’d lack athleticism, but he wouldn’t be the least athletic player in the NBA. Plus we’re talking about one of the smartest, skilled and fundamentally sound players to ever play a sport.

MJ will not come back, he walked away at his peak came back to win a second hat-trick of titles and still put up 20ppg as a 40 year old on career number 3. He would have too much class to try and pull a publicity stunt even though it would fill the Bobcats Arena for the first few games at least.

One on one, a lot depends on ball handling and MJ was also one of the greatest shooters ever so it is feasible that he may have taken MKG in a half court game.

I’ll tell you this, I used to play pick-up games in a semi-large city and the best player there on any given day was a guy who was in his early 50’s that played basketball at a Big 12 school.

I seldom saw anyone slow him down, and that includes guys who were playing small college basketball or had just recently finished playing high school and college basketball … He was legit, and guys half his age couldn’t guard him.

Kind of at a different level than MJ vs. MKG I know, and lighting it up at the Y or in a game of 1-on-1 is totally different than playing in the NBA, but I have seen guys who are up there in age who can flat ball and are much better than guys half their age. …
