Here is a link to one rumor, but there are a million more:
    http://www.rantsports.com/nba/2013/01/29/nba-rumors-jose-calderon-to-the-boston-celtics/

Basically it is hard to see Rudy Gay not being in Toronto past the deadline. I might be more nervous if I were a Grizzlies’ fan, but if TO is going to do this, they better not be giving away the farm here. The asking price was too high before the Griz were under the tax, so I don’t see that coming down too much.

Main TO trading pieces Calderon / Bargnani / Lowry / maybe Ed Davis or someone else / future pick(s)

For Gay they have to find a third party, and the Celtics are a good candidate since they need a point guard. Looking like Calderon today – looked like lowry yesterday.

I don’t see Bargnani in this trade, and it would only be one of the point guards. So likely Bargnani and Lowry would be used in other trade(s) – hopefully to get back a 1st round pick for this year (maybe even to OKC) and obviously to get a point guard since both Lowry and Calderon will be shipped at this point. LA and Charlotte are both points of interest – for Bargnani in particular.

For me this could go several ways and I like to give things a chance – could be a positive step – could be a huge disaster – at least they are making it interesting. With Calderon on the block now I don’t see a strong push for the post season. For the playoffs this year I would lean towards the Pau Gasol hullabaloo from last week.

Untouchables: JV and Terrence Ross (wish I could say the same thing about Ed Davis. Would hate to see them move him at this point, but at least his trade value is far greater than it has ever been.)

Geez, they better know what they are doing here…that goes for the Grizzlies too.

The Toronto Raptors continue to pursue a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for Rudy Gay.

The Raptors held the first overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft and selected Andrea Bargnani, passing over Rudy Gay, amongst others.

“Bryan Colangelo has loved Gay since his college days,” writes Chad Ford. “He was seriously torn between Gay and Bargnani on draft night. I think he feels like if he unites them, the Raptors instantly get better.”

What is Colangelo thinking? He said that Ross in untouchable and I hope he doesn’t include him in the trade. But he really thinks that Gay will save this team? As bad as it sounds, I wish he tanked properly and we acquired multiple assets in the draft and save up money for free agency. Did he even use the trade exception in the Chris Bosh trade? (when are we going to be using that? How is that key to the Raptors’ future). I said this earlier, but I do believe BC is trying to save his job…. He knows if OKC gets a lottery pick, we’re f***** because why would we trade a definite lottery pick for Lowry and then trade Lowry for something else?!?!?!?!??!??! We would be better of keeping our lottery pick and let Jose run the PG and let his contract expire.

I’m sick of these quick fixes because it isn’t getting us anywhere…. And I can’t believe he still thinks that Bargnani can save the Raptors. THIS GUY PLACES WITH NO EMOTION!!!!!!!

Keep Ed Davis and trade Bargnani…. Easier said than done but I hope it happens.

      A) I do think that trade exception was at least partially used at some point. Maybe in swapping out Hedo’s contract for Barbosa? I don’t totally remember. There was definatley an expirey date for it which is long past.

      B) Agreed that a quick fix is not the answer here. I would say that a trade for Gay only works if there are a number of other moves (probably trades) to go along with it. Addressing the fact that neither Gay or Derozan is a sniper from three could present an issue, but maybe Ross is the answer to that.

      C) I don’t think BC sees Bargnani as the face of this team going forward anymore. If you see lots of Bargs as a starter in the next few weeks, I feel it is more to bring up his traid value than anything else. I totally agree about Davis, so if he is traded I would want to see how they address the PF spot.

If most of their trade chips are used, I would imagine getting a 1st round pick this year would be on the agenda.

I’m sick and tired of people wanting their teams to receive without giving. Regardless of what you think of Gay, you cannot deny that the talent is there. In the right system built around him, he can put up superstar numbers. Listening to Memphis’needs and wants, you’re not getting Gay unless you send out Ross. Memphis does not want Bargnani or even Derozan bc his big contract kicks in next year. Ross fits all their needs, Sg who can shoot and on a rookie contract. Make up your minds, is Gay worth Ross or not, but stop coming up with other trades to TO bc Memphis can get better options elsewhere. My opinion, it’s a no brainer to me. Derozan cannot play SF, so that will be a position of need that Gay can fix. Derozan also has a contract that I think will be difficult to move so Ross would continue to play behind him. You gave up a lotto pick for Lowry, so you should do whatever to make it work. As for Calderon, pls stop being fooled. He played like this his last contract year, got that big contract, then underachieved until this contract year.

Just messing around with the trade machine. Here’s why each team does it:

Toronto – they get a star player in Rudy Gay, and only give up Barg who has a big contract and Lowry who is said to be on the bad side of management.

Memphis – they shed themselves of Rudy Gay’s contract, and in return they replace it with a $12.4 million expiring deal.

OKC – they lose a scorer in Martin, but add one in Lowry, who can come off the bench while Selfolosha and Lamb can have their minutes increased at SG. They also add Bargnani who should be an upgrade over Perkins, as well as Fab Melo who’s averaging 11.7ppg – 6.8rpg – 3.6 bpg in the D-League and could be a project for the future.

Boston – they give up Fab Melo who they haven’t really needed this season, but add Reggie Jackson who impressed the Celtics scouts in 2011, and he did play at Boston College which adds to their intrigue. Jackson would be a good backup PG for the future, and can start now while Rondo is out.

A deal for the Memphis Grizzlies to send Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors is imminent, according to sources.

The Raptors would send out Jose Calderon and Ed Davis while acquiring Gay and Hamed Haddadi.

The deal will eventually involve a third team taking Calderon, possibly the Detroit Pistons or Dallas Mavericks.

i’m personally looking forward to the trade to go through. one thing i’m really excited about is that while i’ve seen some of you guys comparing derozen to gay, gay is a better one on one type of player. i feel like derozen won’t be able to make another leap in his game unless he can work on his handles and 1v1 offense. derozen is often trapped/cut off when facing quick defenders and he often just passes out it calderon.

i do like that derozen is trying to post up (via gary payton training) and he incorporated the euro step into his game. so as as slasher i feel that he’ll be fine playing along side gay.

    pretty exciting!

i think kham said it though.. we gotta give up something to get something so it looks like ed davis is the key to making the deal happen.

it doesn’t matter what team ed is on.. i think i’ll play on a higher level (offensively) is if he can learn to finish with his right. even our announcers always say he’s going to his left. another thing is that he rushes a lot.. if he takes his time i’ll be better in the post.
