llperezi would go with:
1st team
pg-magic johnson
sg-michael jordan
sf-lary bird
pf-tim duncan
c-kareem abdul-jabaar2nd team
pg-oscar robertson
sg-kobe bryant
sf-lebron james
pf-karl malone
c-shaqille oneal3rd team
pg-john stockton
sg-jerry west
sf-julius erving
pf-bob petit
c-wilt chamberlainhonorable metion: bill russell, hakeem olajuwon, kevin garnett, isiah thomas, john havlicek
the hardest part is the center position. I mean you can take russell, wilt, kareem, olajuwon and shaq and pretty much pull names from a bag.

RICO 1981ParticipantNow after looking at both of your first teams, I guess tim ducan in his prime is better than bill russell in his prime. I see russell more as a power forward, than a center. llperez do you think lebron is already all time nba second team material?

ShekiruBoomParticipanti think 8 seasons with a career avg of 27-7-7 ball with more in line should be enough for all 2nd team

llperezi figure people would disagree with lebron being there with just 8 seasons under his belt, but to answer the question, yes i do believe he is the second best sf ever and i wouldnt doubt if he got his third straight mvp award this year which i beleive only jordan and bird did.

RICO 1981ParticipantI guess you are right, lebron is a freak of nature. I wonder if KD, melo or D.Rose could ever crack the third team?

DanEboyParticipantThis is a topic that will just get argued to death…everyone has their own opinions.
My personal starting 5 would be…
PG- Magic Johnson
SG- Michael Jordan
SF- Scottie Pippen
PF- Charles Barkley
C- Hakeem Olajuwon
Never saw Wilt, Pettit, Robertson, West or Irving play live.

BKKnicksfanParticipantMe personally, this is my team
- Isiah Thomas
- Micheal Jordan
- LeBron James
- Karl Malone
- Moses Malone
Much respect to Magic, I love Zeke (Even though he almost killed my franchise) and Zeke was a better defender. Jordan is Jordan. LeBron is the best overall SF to touch a basketball, he defends, he can score, he can pass. Karl Malone is a beast and can help Thomas on monster pick and rolls and Moses was a beast, I actually have grainy Moses games from my granddad when he played in Houston. Man was a beast.

NYK2010ParticipantMost of these lists are right on, except Lebron and Shaq aren’t ahead of Larry Bird and Olajuwon.

iguapops420ParticipantI personally would have J at the 3 and have :
Magic
Kobe
Mike
Duncan
Russell
—–
And yes, I too agree LBJ is the second best SF of all time, and I don’t think it should be debatable. His numbers and in game impact are just too much to snub. Name any other SF aside from Bird who change the game when they play better than LBJ. Even Julius couldn’t handle Bron.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantTo me this is how it goes:
The Infancy: These were the greats within the first 20 years of the league guys who dominated when the style of player was barely comparable to today’s game and the rules were different as well.
PG Oscar Robertson (Bob Cousy comes in a very respectable second)
SG Jerry West
SF Elgin Baylor (just edging out John Havlicek)
PF Bob Petit
C Bill Russell (it’s such an ongoing debate between him and Chamberlain)
The NBA vs the ABA: These were the transition years for professional basketball and the time when athleticism and razzle dazzle began to shine. Popularity of the game started to increase along with the entertainment value.
PG Walt Frazier
SG George Gervin
SF Julius Erving
PF Elvin Hayes
C Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
The "Modern" Era:
PG Magic Johnson
SG Michael Jordan
SF Larry Bird
PF Tim Duncan
C Hakeem Olajuwon
Honestly it’s just getting to the point where I can’t compare players from different eras.

omphalosParticipantI’d probably put Irving or Pippen above Lebron for second team until Lebron wins some titles. Pip played with Jordan yes, but he was such a dominant defender and versatile player. Plus, as was pointed out in another thread, he doesn’t dominate the ball like Lebron does. My list would be something like…
1st Team:
Coach: Phil Jackson
PG – Magic
SG – Jordan
SF – Bird
PF – Duncan
C – Russell2nd Team:
Coach: Red Auerbach
PG: Oscar Robertson
SG: Kobe Bryant
