Cody Zeller is projected to be the number 1 pick in the 2013 draft if not top 3.
if thats the case and he goes number 1 he should be more than an NBA All Star and a franchise building block. But can Cody be that good in the NBA? Could he be a top 5 center in the nba in 5 years?
Where would you rank him among the young up and coming center in the future?
Demarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe, Brook Lopez, Roy Hibbert, Jonas Valanciunas, Deandre Jordan.
None of those guys were the number 1 pick or even top 3 picks and didnt get the Hype that Zeller will get this season and heading into the draft.
What is a scoutint Report on Cody Zeller and who does he compare to in the NBA.
the one this site is over 1 year old.
I think he's more of a power forward at the next level. At least right off the bat, his strength is his biggest question mark right now, IMO. He could slide to C eventually, but since he's got a nice jumper, I think he'll be a face up 4 who can play some 5. That being said, he's very skilled and a guy who doesn't make a lot of mistakes, paired with a near 7 foot moble body and I think he has a lot of promise.
I think he could definately be an All-Star in the NBA, but I honestly don't see him being a super star.
I could see him being a 20 ppg 8 rpg 2 apg player in a few years.
so no better than a brook lopez type of player?
More complete, he's faster, and plays with more energy. Stat comparisons only go so far, even though their numbers could be similar, they don't play similar games. Again, Zeller isn't a true 5 in the NBA, I suspect he'll play most of his minutes at the 4.
Ersan Ilyasova and Roy Hibbert both put up about 13 points and 8.8 rebounds last year, but their not the same type player. Ilyasova hit 51 's and Roy Hibbert blocked 2 shots per game. Purely looking at stats is a bogus way of comparing who a player is like.
He's a little Christian Laettner, a little Lamarcus Aldridge.
He could be a center in the more highbred lineups like the heat or a PF in other lineups. I think he could be a 20 and 10 guy and if he improves his shot he could be a bigger elton brand (he was a consistant 20 10 guy in his prime).
i don't think you can say he is a good shooter or projects as a face-up 4 considering he only took 8 jump-shots all last year
In my opinion, his footwork will translate in the NBA when getting bucks at the rim. He faces up 8-10 feet away, makes a move and gets points. He's not a back to the basket in the NBA, IMO. He's a 76% FT shooter as a freshman, and I've read, from multiple sources, he's really worked a lot on his shot. All the groundwork is laid for him to become a really complete player, and I think he'll add new dimensions to his game this season.
so where would rank him among those centers i listed
I think Cousins and Monroe will have more success. I'd put him 3rd ahead of Lopez.
so what bottom lottery teams can you see being a good fit for him?
Bobcats could really use a guy who can create his own shot and provide some offense at the PF position. I don't think B.J. Mullins or Bismack would start for any other team in the league and the Bobcats have experimented with starting both of them last year. Zeller would give them scoring, which they desperately need, a big who can run the break and a nice building block.
I actually C. Zeller a litte more than Monroe. I really hope the Cavs can land him in the draft. We desperately need a low post scorer and i starting to give up on thompson he has shown no improvement in his offensive game, basically if he can't dunk he can't score.
