NBA Basketball: Tobias Harris Sleeper Pick for Most Improved Player?
Well he used to play like a slow footed undersized 6'8 PF with a good floor game. He had a face up jumper out to mid-range with developing 3 range. Over the summer though he's transformed his body and looks mugh lighter on his feet. He's definitely a 3 now and he patterns his game after Melo. There are some similarities, both liek to face up from teh mid-post but Tobias doesn't have the quickness that Melo has. He still likes to face up, create space with his upper body strength and he's improved the range on his jumper. I wouldn't call him a good 3 pt shooter yet, but he's respectable. He's a smart kid as well, and he'll make the right pass, but I think he's focusing more on being aggressive. I don't think he'll ever be a good defender, but he's very strong and he'll hit the glass as well.
He might start but the Bucks have a number interchangeable pieces at the wing (Dunleavy JR, LRMAM, Ilyasova) . He'll definitely have an uptick in production, but I don't know if he'll get enough minutes to be a true break out performer.
As for his upside, I think he has the potential to be a high teens scorer and one of the better rebounding SFs in the game. Not this yr, but down the line I could see him being a #3 scoring option on a good team. Definitely a core piece going forward.
Most Improved Player is always a tough one to predict.
I find that I more often than not tend to pick sophomores as my favorite choices pre-season, but I went back and looked at the last 20 winners of the Most Improved Player award and unless I missed any, only 3 times has a sophomore won it ('93-'94 Don MacLean, '02-'03 Gilbert Arenas, and '06-'07 Monta Ellis).
Not to say sophomores aren't as good a pick as any, just an interesting stat for me considering I so often predict sophomores.
igetbuckets99: Evan Turner is a solid choice if his responsibility, minutes and usage improves as much as many predict following the moving of Andre Igoudala. Of course, he will have to make big strides in his game as well. But a solid pick.
As for Tobias Harris, I have yet to see him this year, so I cannot comment.

Tobias Started is expected to start at small forward this season and is due for a breakout year according to all the coaches and teammates.
