The8thDeadlySinParticipantWould it be a a set up if the draft lottery looks like this:
1. Bucks
2. Celtics
3. Lakers
Bucks would take Embiid because Sanders has started falling apart.
That would leave the most historic rivalry to draft great players at the same position to pit against each other for the next 10 years and possibly revive the rivalry.
Pair Parker with Rondo and company and that rebuilding process looks great. Wiggins with Kobe and company looks great for headlines.
Something to think about..

I think he should become a starter. I’m not sure over who, but he is a mobile and nimble shot blocker compared to the other two guys.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantLol, and everyone will say the conspiracy is alive because Salt Lake City will somehow end up with Mormon future star Jabari Parker.
Let’s look at the ten teams with the worst record in the league this year:
If LA or Boston end up with a top pick everybody will yell conspiracy because they are the two most historically dominant franchises in NBA history and are large markets.
If Utah gets a pick high enough to get Jabari Parker everybody will say that the Mormon connection is in effect.
If Sac gets the top pick people will say it’s because the franchise is about to move and the league wants a premium superstar in a new city (like Durant from Seattle to OKC).
If Detroit or Philly get the top pick people will say that the league is helping out two struggling franchises that have historically had success and are currently going through a rough patch.
If New Orleans, Cleveland or Orlando end up with the top pick people will say the league is still trying to compensate them for losing three of the best players in the league in the last few years.
And If Milwaukee, the team with the best chance of the #1 pick, gets the first pick overall I’m sure at least some tin-foil hat wearers will proclaim that it’s because the franchise was just sold and that the league promised the new owner the top pick as part of his buy in.
No matter who gets a top 3 pick, the conspiracy theorists will have something to talk about around the water cooler.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThen at 4 and 10 the Sixers go with Julius Randle to pair with Nerlens inside then James Young to pair with MCW in the backcourt. That would be a great core.
They could also go small with MCW, Wroten, Young, Randle, and Noel.
The Sixers could end up winning the draft.

For_Never_EverParticipantI will really believe it is rigged if the Lakers get up to the third pick.
If I was the Bucks GM I’ll go with Andrew Wiggens to team up with the Greek Freak. I just wouldn’t risk it with Embid back.

Magic JordanParticipantWell the Bucks have a 25% chance to get the 1st pick, the Lakers have a 20% chance to get a top 3 pick. So if the Bucks win the first pick is it rigged? 5% difference is reasonably small to scale.
It’s essentially a Josh Smith 3 pointer for the bucks 1st pick.
Or a Tony Wrotten 3 pointer for the Lakers top 3 pick?

That would be kind of great but also another rebuild of big market teams while spreading that small market teams are always can compete easily. Miami, San Antonio or OKC aren’t really struggeling beeing top in merchandise either. It’s not Lakers or Celtics Territory but still not to shabby.

fito91ParticipantI could be wrong, but I believe the lottery is rigged. The NBA is a business, and they are going to put themselves in a position to make the most money. I doubt big market teams like the Lakers or Celtics will win the lottery, but I think they’ll end up higher than where they currently are slotted to pick. It’s bad for business having big market teams like the Lakers and Celtics perform so poorly. Silver will do what he can to get them back on the right track as fast as possible and putting them in position to draft Wiggins, Parker, or Embiid is a good start.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if what The8thdeadlysin says happens. A Wiggins vs Parker rivalry would be big time for the NBA. However, if the Bucks land the first pick I don’t see them passing on Wiggins or Parker. They still seem to be committed to Sanders, although with the new ownership that could change.

fito91ParticipantAlso, I’ve always found it kind of shady how they do the lottery behind closed doors. Why not do it on stage for everyone to see?
0- Posted on: Thu, 04/17/2014 - 10:22am #890386
Magic JordanParticipantBecause it’s not as simple as just picking balls. Would you really want to watch a few dudes sit at a table for hours listing off the combinations of balls that are disperesed. It’s not just a one time thing where whatever balls comes out is it. It’s a process that takes place over a couple of hours which is determined by which combinations show up the most, not just are picked.

This is a place for dicussion and thats what i was looking for.
Take a step back and admit that if it turns our like in my scinero, everyone in the basketball community will wonder, publicly or secretly, if it was quietly fixed..
Think about this. For the first time in NBA history, the. Knicks, Celtics, and Lakers will all miss the playoffs. Argue small market all you want but everyone knows the NBA thrives when these teams are good. If i am the commish and my livelihood depends a lot on big market teams having marketable players, it would cross my mind to make sure they got one or 2 on their team…
I have never said it was fixed. I dont think its rigged.. But if they end up in the top 3, i will he scratching my head and looking around the room for answers..

HitsterParticipantIf the Lakers did get the top pick everyone would shout conspiracy but they could easily move up into the top 3 as could Boston, Utah, Detroit etc.
I honestly believe the draft lottery is legit but I still think the NBA would save a lot of problems by showing the actual draft lottery picks procedure fully live.
From my perspective as a Phoenix fan I’d loe us to move up but I know that is unlikely. My ideal lottery scenario would be for Philly and Bucks to stay in the top 3 and another random team to move up.
Orlando would only drop to 4 and already have some decent young talent and good picks due. The Lakers moving up would be fun to see how their draft process evolves, Detroit haven’t had a top 3 pick since you know who and have been in draft lottery for several years so are due some luck in the lottery and keeping their pick from Charlotte could be the bit of luck they need.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI’m fighting an unwinnable war. Milwaukee (25%) was just sold to new owners for more money than was expected (certainly based off the Forbes appraisal). Philadelphia (19.9%) is a big market. Utah (10.4%) winning the lottery in a year with a Mormon star would set off alarms. Boston (10.3%) and the Lakers (6.3%) are the two most successful franchises in the league’s history. Sacramento (4.3%) is getting a new stadium with public money. There is a better than 75% chance of the conspiracy theorists coming away feeling justified.
