I am extremely sorry for this, I am writing an essay on the NBA as an organisation for my university in Russia. I would be extremely grateful if somebody helped me with a problem that I encountered:

If we take the NBA as a financial organisation – what are it’s sources of revenue?

As far as I understand the team owners get profit from ticket sales.

Am I right to say the NBA itself gets income from advertising and selling merchandise? Also to a lesser extent it gets some moeny from fines and taxing teams. What other sources of income does it have?

I would adore you if you guys helped me with this.

I am sure some people on here might know the answer, but you probably need to look this stuff up with google and find a website you can quote from and show your sources.

Ticket sales get you money, but most teams are honestly happy to get you in the stadium free of cost. They make tons of overhead off of concessions (those 12 dollar beers, the hot dog that costs what you might throw down at a nice steak house). Merchandise is also key, think that teams/owners make lots of money off of that as well. The most lucrative source of income may be television. The major networks compete with each other, offering billions for the rights to show NBA games. Local media as well, though on a smaller scale.

Would look up the value of ABC/ESPN and Turner’s contracts. NBA League Pass as well. Plus all of the advertising you see around arenas, that brings in tons of dough. Ticket sales are one thing, just believe that all of the other things are what brings in the big time money. Also, Tyrober is definitely right. Look this up and show sources, just trying to help with ideas of what to look up.

       Thanks a lot

It’s just that whenever I try to google it they just offer the gross income of all the teams combined and not the NBA as an organisation itself

You’re in college but you can’t figure out what the sources of revenue are for professional sports teams? Lolz.
