BasterdInABasketParticipantTo NJ: Anthony, Billups, Shelden Williams, Ely, Balkman
To DEN: Harris, Favors, Murphy, Uzoh, 4 1st Rd Picks
Now Anthony just needs to agree to an extension with the Nets.

delfamParticipantCarmelo would never agree to this, the team he would be going to would be horrible.
Sportscenter is freaking out about this and it’s no big deal, just cause the teams agree to the deal doesn’t mean Carmelo will.

Billups – Farmar
Morrow – Sasha
Melo – Outlaw – James
Humphries – Balkman – Williams
Lopez – Petro – Ely
That is not gonna win a championship and they dont have picks to draft help

canesboy6ParticipantYa, from the outside, theres no way this gets done. Thats a huge Ripoff.
For me the biggest issue is the 4 first round draft pick. At least half of those are lottery picks. For a team that isn’t even a surefire playoff team as it would be right now, you can’t afford to give up 4 years of aquiring and developing prospects.
This is interesting for a number of reasons. The Knicks couldn’t ever get close to this. Maybe the Nets know this, and are just upping the ante so the Knicks offer pales in comparison.
Favors, Harris, and 4 first rounders for Melo and Chauncey, who is old and arguably not as good as Harris anymore? Biggest ripoff ever if Denver pulls that off.

Toronto16ParticipantIf Melo agrees to this extension he’s nuts. That team would be 10 times worse than the Nuggets.

NashyMingParticipantThe 4 1st round picks would not be all from the Nets.
Currently, the Nets has all of its future 1st round picks and 3 more picks from other teams:
2011 first round draft pick from L.A. Lakers (top 18 protected to 2016)
2012 first round draft pick from Golden State (top 7 protected to 2013, top 6 protected to 2014)
2012 first round draft pick from Houston (lottery protected to 2016)
So I assume it would be Nets 2011 1st + the 3 picks above. It is not too much consider there are 2 potential lottery picks and 2 mid to late 1st round picks. The Nuggets certainly got a great deal to rebuild the team though.0 - Posted on: Fri, 02/18/2011 - 9:11am #493042

NashyMingParticipantThe Nets would still be not good enough to be contender, but it may still be able to reach the playoff in the weak East. It probably wouldn’t be as good as the current Nuggets, but the Nets are certainly not looking at success this year.
The Pacers has the 8th spot with 24~30 record. The Nets has a 17~40 record. It would be difficult but not impossible for the Nets to play catchup after the deal. Billups is an upgrade over Harris (better play maker, shooter, experienced, leadership, relatively more healthy for the past a few years). Melo will finally give the Nets a go to guy. Shelden Williams and Ely are better than Favors (too raw, still a year or 2 away) and Murphy (not in the rotation at all) with the current season. Balkman is a solid defender that Avery Johnson may embrace. The trade should certainly help the Nets to make a playoff run. Meaning that the 2011 NJN 1st may not even be lottery.
Billups -Melo – Lopez can form a solid "big 3 lite" in the east.
By acquiring Billups and sending Harris away, the Nets also can free up cap next year (as Billups’ deal is only locked up for 3~4mil in 2011). Williams and Ely are at minimum. Balkman’s deal isn’t horrible. This would allow the Nets to go after Chris Paul (2012 FA).
Paul – Melo – Lopez can be a real big 3 in 2012/2013.

kaceyParticipantNashyMing is right. The Nets have plenty of first round picks to deal out, if you remember they just made that deal earlier in the season to acquire two first round picks. More than likely those picks were acquired for a Melo trade.
Plus, the Nets can always buy their way into the first round if there is someone they really want to draft, Mavericks are an example of this with Dominique Jones in the 2010 draft.
If you are acquiring a player like Melo, you are putting your team in a position to entice solid free agents to come to town as well.

mikeyvthedonParticipantI do not know their situation, but they are going to have to re-up with Griffin, and I do not know what marquee free agents are going to want to go to Brooklyn to play with Melo/Lopez. He would be much better off in Denver than going to New Jersey, and either scenario is less than ideal. Would be VERY surprised if Melo agrees to this. Looks like the best deal the Nuggets could possibly get for him all things considered, but my guess is that Melo is still MSG or bust. Feel free to shoot the messenger Nuggets fans, but you know that this is Melo’s mind set. Prokhorov would have to feed him quite a line to make this work. Billup’s has a team option after this year, that I would be surprised if they do not pick up and with the 8 figure deals of Melo/Lopez to soon think about, I am guessing they will have to move a lot of bad contracts. Not to mention, they get no lottery pick or any type of rookie contract help from trading those draft picks. How this trade does not keep Melo in mediocrity for about three years is beyond me, and even than it is gamble as to when he will be out of mediocrity. Melo tells the banker no deal.

BKKnicksfanParticipantDenver won this deal in a sense. They get 4 1st rounders, Murphy (who they can flip), Harris (keep) and Favors, who I believe is gonna be good.
They can also still move Nene

OhCanada-ParticipantEveryone needs to give Denver GM Masai Ujiri much credit for working and playing hardball with his superstar Carmelo Anthony. To acquire Harris, Favors and four 1st round draft picks is alot better then what Cleveland and Toronto settled for. Im sure that now they will just see if Carmelo will accept to this deal, if he doesnt his value should drop. I believe that Carmelo will eventually be traded nonetheless.

TyroberParticipant. Billups has already stated that he will request a buyout if he is traded to the Nets. So your looking at a horrible nets team with melo. There is no way he agrees to a contract extension with that team. The Nets would be better off using those 4 1st rounders and rebuilding through the draft

I believe they are only going to give out 1 of their first round picks. They have multiple picks from other teams. I know they a Rockets first rounder and a Lakers rounder. Melo would sign the extension though. That team would be horrible if and when Billups asks for a buyout
