BKKnicksfanParticipantI saw someone post a plan with Carmelo so I got to thinking of my own plan going up to next season. Here goes:
Coming back after the season: Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Landry Fields, Ronny Turiaf, Andy Rautins and Toney Douglas
In the draft, the Knicks WILL have a 1st round pick in the 18-25 range. I believe the Knicks will look at UCLA’s Malcolm Lee, Oakland’s Keith Benson or Chandler Parsons of Florida . Lee provides the potential backup point guard spot and the ability to defend shooting guards at time (most likely when he and Douglas are on the court together). With Parsons, it’s his ability to do a bit of everything and never be great at anything that should allow him to play in D’Antoni’s offense. Benson reminds many of Steven Hunter, that’s cool with me. I feel this is least likely because the Knicks will have Earl Barron and will look to throw a rotational big behind him or get a starter in front of him. My guess: If Kemba Walker is there, he’s probably the pick. However, don’t sleep on Donnie’s ability to shock people in the draft.
In free agency, the Knicks will come into the season with 5 of the 8 they use in thier rotation. Here are the players I think New York will target
DeAndre Jordan: The Knicks will probably throw good money to him. He’s only averging 6.9 points and 7.1 rebounds, but should command a solid contract. I feel he’s worth 25-30 million over 5 seasons. With Los Angeles sitting there, he might be available.
Jared Jeffries: Donnie Walsh didn’t want to give him up, because of his ability to defend multiple positions. I believe if the price is good, Walsh will look to bring him back
Mickeal Pietrus/Marco Bellineli/Micheal Redd: Both are shooters and looking at the roster above, the Knicks will want to add a shooter on the team they can set up and throw to on the wings.
Jeff Foster: Again, expect Walsh and D’Antoni to really look for some big men to allow Stoudemire to get extended rest at times in the season.
Acie Law/Sebastian Telfair: New York will still need a solid backup just in case Douglas struggles. Remember, this is the same offense that allowed Chris Duhon to rack up 6-8 assists when he was here.
If I had to guess the Knicks final roster, it would look like this
Starters: Toney Douglas, Landry Fields, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, DeAndre Jordan
Bench: Ronny Turiaf, Jared Jeffries, Mickeal Pietrus, Sebastian Telfair, Earl Barron, Malcolm Lee, Andy Rautins
Thoughts?

BigDParticipantRemember what Donnie Walsh said, i will resign Wilson Chandler, and Gallo is on contract, Knicks would be stupid to trade for Melo

NYK2010ParticipantDouglas as the starting PG won’t get it done he can shoot and play defense but he’s not a pure PG. Even as backup PG he has struggled some running the team. He’s only in his 2nd year but if the Knicks look for help as a backup PG that definately means he’s not ready to be a starter. Once again not sure what Raymond Felton has done wrong for him to be traded. The Nuggets are crazy with their demands if they want Gallo and Chandler thats 1 thing but they already have a PG in Ty Lawson no need to acquire Felton. The draft pick will be 18-22, the Knicks aren’t catching the top teams in the league even with Mello. They have a farily easy schehdule the rest of the way but still have to face the Mavs, Heat, and the Celtics and Magic twice. Also Billups as a PG doesn’t really work in D’antoni’s system since he doesn’t push the ball up the court.

Well, you should have gotten the picture then when you didn’t see Gallo listed a Knick coming back in 2011. I didn’t forget him, he wasn’t there for a reason. I understand your a little slow and it’s a little late, but come on now.

BigDParticipantWell if your trading Gallo, why is Chandler gone as well? I think most people would understand both of them would not be involved in a deal, same with Raymond Felton.

Raymond Felton is just wanted by Denver. I don’t think Douglas is a starter right now either, but we are talking about a system where if you can run and pass, you can do well.

Alright. The Knicks offered Gallo, Chandler, Felton, Curry and a 1st round pick for Melo, Billups and filler today.
Can you stop asking really stupid questions?

BigDParticipantYou really think Denver is going to want Felton with Lawson already there? Billups is unlikely to play out of Denver, so realistically Felton would not be going anywhere.
And can i see sources of this offer the Knicks gave them? Because if Donnie really did offer both Gallo and Chandler he must be smoking some crack. to become a championship threat at least one of them has to stay.

BigDParticipantI’ll give you my plan on what they should do.
Wait until the offseason and sign Melo
Starters- Felton, Fields, Melo, Stoudemire, Mozgov
Bench- Walker, Williams, Chandler, Gallo, Douglas, Turiaf (if keepable, otherwise cheaper alternative)
They are all current Knicks, keep them, just add Melo to the framework
with both Chandler and Gallo off the bench that gives unbelievable flexibility in both offense and defense. Mozgov if he plays just a bit of D and rebounds, is that defensive big the long to have. The players the currently have are very handy to have on a good team. Williams has shown great promise, and is actually trying to play some defense this year some of the time, Bill Walker would be handy for the foul trouble and if you need some athletic spark. Douglas is one player you could trade for a more veteran like PG, but if there’s nobody clearly better keep him. Turiaf is for obvious reasons.
The only catch to this is if they can afford to pay Chandler and Melo as they please, Chandler seems a clear head, maybe he’s willing for a paycut to win, and maybe Melo would be as well.
All these deals your wanting NY to do is too risky and what if it falls down, if Melo decides against NY you still have the same roster you have this year, there are other people to add, NY has a team that can be a perenial playoff threat even without Melo, they shouldn’t trade it all away now, they got reasonably good chemistry, if you trade your players, dont get your free agents, then where do you go?

Mr. 19134ParticipantIf I’m the Knicks I would NOT TRADE RAY FELTON. I use to be a big Felton fan but he has disapointed me thus far in the league, and the early results were what I expected, Felton playing out of control, not use to pushing the speed because of the slowed down LB system he was use too, and just basically never turning into that breakneck fast paced pass first PG who could hit the outside shot when he first came into the league.
But watching, and hearing about how him and Amare were the gym before everybody else ALL SUMMER working on their chemistry I knew their was a chance they would get it together. And they did. They are playing amazing together.
There is a reason the Knicks didn’t win the first few years of D’Antoni’s tenure and that’s because he didn’t have the right QB for his system. Just like say the Patriots, Eagles, and Colts in the NFL, D’Antoni’s system requires that great floor general and they have found one in their prime for a great price who is a leader and their franchise players best friend. This is perfect for the Knicks.
Billups is not only a bad fit for the system, but it too old to build around. Plus the Nuggets got Ty Lawson, and Billups can be brought out at the end of the year so I don’t see why they would push for Felton that bad.
The Knicks should try selling 2 out of their 3 wingmen, Fields-Gallo-Chandler, and Denver should be interested. Especially Gallo and Chandler with the rest of their young players, and the cap space they will have Denver would be in a great position. And the Knicks don’t need both of them if they are getting Melo they would be best suited keeping Fields who is the perfect glue guy.
The Knicks need to target a big man in the draft too. Zeller, Faried, one of the Morris’, Patrick Young, Tristan Thompson, and Trey Thompkins are all possibilites. And yes Thompkins will be there when the Knicks pick I do not know why this site has him in the lotto but he is far from a lotto talent right now. This is the only sight high on Thompkins, and after watching him play 4 times this seasons, and here and there of a few other games I honestly do not think he is going to be a starter in the NBA.
Also Jordan Williams would be a perfect fit for that system as he could play center and runs the floor well, and rebounds. I got Jordan Williams moving into the top 12 or 15 of the draft by the time the combine rolls around.

Mr. 19134ParticipantI don’t know if you guys have been following All Star weekend, but if the Knicks don’t trade for Melo the Nets are. Melo’s camp as reported by ESPN is angered by the Knicks feeling they can just sign him in the off-season when in reality Melo wants to get the ball rolling, he does not want to stay in Denver, and wants to get a deal done before the deadline. Signing Melo in the offseason is no longer and option, especially when the Nets are willing to give up Favors, 4 1st Round picks, and Harris.

BigDParticipantWhy would Melo sign an extension with NJ? Knicks should play the waiting game and just add to the pressure onto both NJ and Denver, if they don’t get him there are other players they can get without trading away their core.
