Not Impressed With UCLA's Freshman So Far
Kyle Anderson was playing point and had the ball more than anyone on the team. UCLA only started playing better when they used him as the secondary ball handler. What I have noticed, you can lay off him because he isn't going blow by anyone and hasn't shown so far that he is able to knock down shots consistently.
I agree. Because of Kyle's inability to shoot (which is hampered by his wrist injury I think), he's pretty pointless bringing the ball up and trying to run the offense from up top. Right now he's better utilized at the high and mid post areas where he can utilize his vision to hit cutters and open shooters. He's hitting the offensive glass well too, so he should be playing closer to the paint.
1 thing UCLA have to do is play DEFENSE & play SMARTER..They had a 18 point lead on Cal-Poly last night with 8 minutes left, but took bad shots, too much 1-on-1 & turnovers, caused them to lose that lead...Freshman Jordan Adams made an amazing layup to tie the game....But with 18 seconds remaining Powell had a mental lapse and 4got Adams had just tied the and he intentionally fouled, the guy sanked both free throws ans UCLA lost a game they had in the bag...I Blame the coach for that lost.....
Amazing layup? Sorry that just sounds weird.
i think they will improve definatly. they are just learning how to work with each other, plus adding shabazz recently they have to work him into there system. they played the first three games without him. i expect ben howland to have them ready next game. he will echo how embarrising this last loss was and they will come back stronger i think. a loss to cal-poly is humbling to a bunch of star freshman recruits.
I've actually been heavily impressed by Jordan Adams and Shabazz, they're averaging 19 and 18 respectively... this post should have read 'Not Impressed with Kyle Anderson'
You are right a lot of the negative impression of the freshman class falls on Kyle Anderson. Anderson looks like a 3-4 year college player so far. But somebody tell me what's up with Tony Parker. I know Parker is overweight and all but I expected more than 3 minutes a game.
Lamb is transfering....Maybe it was becuz of a lack of playing time...There are reports this morning, that he might end up at another PAC-12 school...
Kyle Anderson is Slower than Advertised...I Bet Dick Bavetta can beat him up & down the court...
But his court vision is better then alot of pros...Court vision and his rebounding are 2 positives he has going for him...Those things might get some nba looks...
They might play him at power forward tho....
That might be what's best for him. If he can get stronger and add some more wight, he'd be a nice guy you can run an offense through from the high post, and be a great passer down low.
shabazz is very very good but i think hes just a little overated, i mean cmon were talking about a potential top 3 pick and the top player in hs last year. But its still early, we'l see how the season goes....i just think its gonna be harder for him to live up to the hype then lets say someone like nerlens noel, and nerlens has big shoes to fill. I personally think noel will be the first pick. and as far as zeller #1 pick THAT IS A JOKE

This team is just not as good as the names on the roster would suggest. The freshman class has looked overrated so far. Jordan Adams has impressed me the most, but with Shabazz finally joining the team it will limit his touches. Kyle Anderson has been horrible this year so far and has no role on the team. He's shooting 27% and not really a part of the offense, he should have gone to a school that would put the ball in his hands and run the offense thru him. Tony Parker passed on a lot of good schools that would have used him, but instead he's settling for 3 mins a game at UCLA.
I thought the mix of the #1 class in the nation and the talented experienced players UCLA already had would equal success. Will this team pull it around and start playing like a top 10 team?
