With Old Dominion at 2–16, head coach Blaine Taylor is enduring his worst year with the Monarchs since arriving in Norfolk, VA, prior to the 2001 season. The ignominy of it all was perhaps epitomized by his Monday coach’s show on the local ESPN Radio affiliate, which was disconcerting sounding to many fans.

A mumbling Taylor was both difficult to understand and rambled endlessly and without direction on several topics. Many in the Twittersphere believe that Taylor was impaired.

That might be the most disconcerting aspect of this whole thing. As the coach at Montana in the mid-1990s, Taylor developed a drinking problem severe enough that he checked himself into a 28-day alcohol rehabilitation clinic, in 1995. He says he hasn’t had a drop to drink since.

If this is Taylor’s last season with Old Dominion, here’s hoping that Monarchs fans remember him more for the 237 wins and three CAA tournament championships he led them to and not this video.

I don’t think he was drunk or anything. Just a tired coach having to discuss a 2-15 team.
