Gasol believes there is a "lot of juice" left in Nash and calls him "one of the elite point guards in the league as long as I can remember....he makes everyone around him better" and that he's "probably the most unselfish player in the NBA."
Yeah, I can easily this team gathering around Nash and then Nash becoming the leader.
You're very anti-Kobe and I get that, but you know good and damn well Kobe is *THE* leader of this team.
Can Nash become *A* leader? Yes, definitely.
Yeah Indiana, I am very Anti-Kobe. I also happen to be very pro D. Howard, S. Nash and P. Gasol. I've had many arguments trying to explain to people how bad a defensive team that features Jamer Nelson and Hideo Turkolo and Ryan Anderson has to be . . . except they aren't a bad defensive team because of Howard. He is so incredible that you can play those guys without any apparent penalty. I think, before injury, Howard was actually undervalued and he should have won MVP over Rose. I'm also a Nash fan, and I think Gasol doesn't get enough credit for winning the championship over the Celtics in 2010. All these things are coming together in one incredibly unlikely event. My hope is that Kobe gets hurt, misses the second half of the season and the Lakers go on to win a championship without him.
My fear is that Kobe plays through the season, shoots 42%, scores 24 points per game, and the Lakers win the championship because Nash, Gasol and Howard all shoot 60%+ with the few remaining shots available to them. The media anoints Kobe as the greatest player since MJ while his teamates mutter under the breadth that if he had just gotten out of their way they would have won every game by 20.
I'm a Kobe fan in terms of his heart and his effort. He just has a knee injury and it has taken away his speed and hops. He was mediocre last year. He just called his own number enough times each game that he kept his points per game high enough that the casual fan (and even Coach K (see Olympics)) didn't notice. Scoring isn't hard. All it takes is shots. Scoring efficiently is very very hard. Kobe doesn't seem like he can do that anymore.
