delfamParticipantWhat do you guys see in him, I just don’t get it. There have been so many players like him in the past that have failed(Bender, Tyrus Thomas, Anthony Randolph).
First off he doesn’t have a true position which IMO is not a good thing, choose which position you want to play and work on that skill set.
Second his mentallity is not that of a top 3 pick. The mind is something that is very hard to change, it’s difficult to turn that switch on to killer instinct mode and I don’t know if he can.
Overall, I just think his lack of position and his mentallity are really bad signs for a NBA prospect. I still like him in the Top 10, but Top 3 like people have been saying is way to high IMO.

r377Participantyeh i fully agree, lots of ppl saying he will go number 1…
I can’t see him or Barnes being the best 2…

delfamParticipantsame thing with Barnes IMO, but to a lesser extent since he did it in high school a little. Jones didn’t even dominate in high school all the time which IMO is a big red flag. At that height and skill level he should’ve been dropping 30 every game in high school.

Meditated StatesParticipantI doubt he will. I think teams will regret it,but thats just me. We’ll see

lalailaParticipantbeing able to grab almost 9boards a game next to Acy and other Jones..and with that size Perry will be PF for sure, just a very versitily PF…
you said it right about the mentality but other that he has everything even for a number 1 pick.

delfamParticipant^ but in the NBA I think mind is more important than skill to an extent. If you don’t have the right mindset you can’t live up to your potential and that’s what I see with Jones.

lalailaParticipantyeah is possible..but it’s not like Sidney or even DMC issues, he is great kid with nice work ethic..if he continues to grow as a player and improve his game,,in 5 or smth years he will be just too good not to be a star.

delfamParticipantI’ve also heard he is easy to coach and has good work ethic, but if he doens’t have that take over mentality all that hard work will go to waste.

lalailaParticipantyeah i agree but like i said just future will show is it a problem or not…as for now i’m pretty happy that other like Barnes he plays in college probably even better than he did in HS so mi hope he will continue to improve and reach his huge potential

Anton123ParticipantIf he is drafted as a second option he won’t really need the take over mentality, he’ll just need to be more consistent and put on some muscle to bang in the post with bigger PFs.

B-ball fanParticipantI think his ceiling is a Bosh or Garnett-lite type offensive player, but I think he will take a little while to find a niche in the NBA. He does not look like a typical #1 overall pick, as he doesn’t seem to have big time scoring instincts. He is skilled, but he doesn’t demand the ball or appear too confident on the offensive end. If he improves his jump shot, which is already very good for a 4, he could be a good second option.

JBrace19ParticipantI see him being like a Kevin Durant. Both are sub-seven footers and both have an outside game. Thats why they both want to be classified as SF and not PF. But Jones has a lot of work to do to be like the Duranchula.

Dale WorthingtonParticipantDurant took over games in his one-and-done year at Texas. On the other hand, Jones has looked quite passive at Baylor. Additionally, Jones doesn’t have Durant’s range. Jones has made just one 3-ball through 11 games.

the lake showthis years number one pick doesn’t have what most number one picks have had. might be one of the worst number one picks in recent memory as far as short term impact

the lake showAnd 8reb a game isn’t bad although having Jones and Acy is a excuse as far as him not getting more rebounds just like it would be for the other guys as far as them getting more rebounds since baylor is ranked 27th in rebounding in the nation (which isnt bad)

SteroidParticipantAt best, I see Perry Jones generally being a Lamar Odom type in terms of being the ultimate tweener; Someone who can legitimately play both forward positions exceptionally well even though he doesn’t necessarily fit either position. I doubt he will ever get there that’s why I said at best. There is no telling how good he will be. Based on what we know about him, the chances of him dominating like he should at the NBA level is low, but there is always a chance that he somehow translates into an all-star caliber player even though it might be low. His potential is warranted an overall first round pick, but his mentality along with it makes him worth at the most, a top 10 pick, IMO.

thatdude44ParticipantThe guy is 6’11 and he’s not a big at the next level. Combo forward for sure just beause of the way the NBA is changing. If i’m a GM i would have to take Jone over Barnes simply because of the limitless upside. No he’s not Kevin Durrant but they both have some what the same skills, KD just plays with more fire and to me thats what jones is lacking as of right now. IMO

the lake showEven with the NBA changing a Good Center is still more vaulble then a good point guard. Not saying Perry is a center.

JoeWolf1From what I’ve seen of Jones is about what I have expected, we’ll see what he’s really made of when conference play starts.

JNixonParticipantI’m expect about 12 ppg and 6 or 7 rpg from Jones in the Big 12 slate. He’s not all that polished right now, but he’s skilled enough to where he’s going to be productive just by his physical skills and raw talent. He’s playing almost exactly as good as I thought he would be.
