JoeWolf1I saw that Detroit signed Ben Wallace the other day, and although he is in the twilight of his career, will add a valuable defensive veteran presence off the bench next year. That bit of information made me think about Detroit and their chances in the East next year. With the additions of Charlie Villenueva and Ben Gordon, as well as a very productive draft and the likely improvement of young pg Rodney Stuckey, makes me think they could gain some momentum and raise to the middle of the east this year and possibly to the top if they are able to address their weakness at center(Wilcox is an improvement, but him and Brown are nothing to write home about) and guard depth(Detroit drafted terrifically at forward, but still lacks in guard depth). How do you think Detroit will fair this season? I’m thinking a 4-6 seed battling Atlanta, Chicago, and Miami for those positions.

gatorheelsParticipantRight now I have them as the 8th seed. As long as the 76ers & Miami don’t add any free agents then I think Detroit is in the playoffs barely.
Yeah if they make a trade & get some help in the frontcourt then they could really be good.

McWinningParticipanti dont think their a playoff their a franchise on the downfall and unless they get a legit big man i dont see them as a playoff team.

KevinDurantRocksParticipantBut i wish they play there young players more this year go to the lottery and pick up another good player.. .but if they trade Rip for player that has good potential and yet is very solid at this moment i think they will be doing good but it would have to be a center cause the rest of there roster is full. I would also like to see Daye on the court alot he could be really good even playing next to Prince. Looking at the team now i wish they wouldn’t have gotten Ben and Charlie cause they could have picked up better players next year and if it wasn’t for Ben and Charlie there would be no ball stoppers on this team
pg Rodney Stuckey
sg Ben Gordan
sf Prince/Austin Daye
pf Charlie

JoeWolf1I agree about a playoff franchise in the decline, i had them as a lottery team next year before the offseason, but I really liked their draft though, Daye is a great prospect if he can add some weight his versatility at his height could make him a really good player, Jerebko is a sleeper in my opinion who could contribute right away, and Summers has first round talent, but for some reason dropped to the second. I know they have some work to do, but that is a good young foundation to go with their free agent additions. Their veteran core will win the enough games to make the playoffs in the east this year, if Prince, Gordon, Villenueva, and Hamilton are around when those youngs get better in a year or two, they could be a more legit East team…wow, that is a lot of variables, now that i read it…i’ve had a lot of coffee today…i thought they had a good draft, lol

the_truth34Participantreally birdzilla how are they on they downfall they got rid of the disease A.I and got rid of rasheed and mcdyess who are on the downfall. they picked up charlie V whos young and is better then rasheed wallace. ben gordon one of the best 3 point shooters in the game and alot of people are saying stuckey cant be a point guard he young he can only get better and wilcox is going to good enough at center there arent that many good centers in the nba anyways they will get 6th seed or 7th
Boston
Magic
Cavs
Wizards
Raptors
Pistons
Atlanta
Chicago or miami0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 9:00am #198241
McWinningParticipantcenters win games and even though Sheed was a poisin he could play center. and losing Mcdyess hurts too, now they dont even really have a center which could be a problem.

JoeWolf1Atleast they have two mediocre centers, and they are deep at PF, that is enough to make the playoffs in the east with all the scoring they have at G and F

BadBoysParticipantPistons are my hometown team, watched most of their games last year on the NBA pass (living in Chicago). I
Lot of new players on this team and it may take a well to develop the right chemistry that is so important to have. They for sure have the talent to compete in the East and be in that second tier of teams. I dont see the rookies contributing much this year though. The main factors I see in how far the Pistons go are:
1. Development of Stuckey. He is a great talent and has a Wade like ability to get to the rim. I see him as the X-Factor.
2. Ability of new coach Kuester to bring defensive mentality of Cleveland to Detroit. The new acquisitions of Villenueva and Gordon were two offensive minded players who have suspect D. If Kuester can get them to play on both ends of the court it makes Detroit a very dangerous team.
Right now I see the East as:
1. Orlando
2. Boston
3. Cleveland
4. Toronto
5. Atlanta
6. Detroit
7. Philly
8. Miami0

McWinningParticipantanother problem is i really dont like Gordan as a number one option and the east is much tighter than it used to be. i think they might get the eight seed but not much chance of much higher.

JoeWolf1my initial prediction was a bit lofty, I really forgot about Toronto who i think is going to come up big, Washington is talented, but its hard to count on Arenas playing the entire season, i think he will play more than the 3 games he played last year, but I see them more on Detroits level, I think its pretty wide open when you get past Cleveland, Orlando, and Boston,…Philly is going to be hurt by Millers absence, Chicago is really banking on big improvement from Noah, Thomas and Rose, and Miami has wade, but is also heavily relying on Chalmers and Beasley to step it up. My revised playoffs in the East is
1.Cleveland
2.Boston
3.Orlando
4.Toronto
5.Atlanta
6.Chicago
7.Detroit
8.Miami0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 9:21am #198258
McWinningParticipantid put Washington in there even if Arenas isnt healthy they added Foye and their team is good without him.

JoeWolf1Foye is solid, i definitely think they will be in the mix, They could make a push and get up to a 7 i think, McGee has a lot of upside, if he steps it up and even gives them 11 and 8 to go with Jamison and Butler in the frontcourt, they could get there, and If Arenas stays healthy, they will be in the mix regardless, but i think the east is open past 3 and they are just too unproven for me to count them in at this point

gatorheelsParticipantPeople are sleeping on the Bulls & Wizards. Both these teams will be in the playoffs. Washington had a bad record last year due to the fact Haywood & Arenas missed the whole season. Caron Butler also missed around 15 games which hurt. Add all of them healthy for a whole season & you can expect Wasington to be A LOT better. Plus you have to think Blatche, Nick Young, & McGee have improved at least a little. Also add in new additions Foye & Miller.

JoeWolf1yeah, I forgot they got him in that trade too, I was counting them a little weak at sg, but that helps a lot,…What do you guys think of the 76ers?? I think Miller’s absence will help Louis Williams development ( he’s super fast and has a lot of upside) but i don’t see him and Jarue Holiday taking them to the playoffs, Igudala is an up and comer, and so is Williams, but at this point he isn’t a true pg and his shot selection and percentages are still pretty bad, having Brand healthy will help, but i see too many holes in Philly to count them as anymore of a playoff contender than Milwakee at this point

KevinDurantRocksParticipantThe top of the east has beast like Howard and Lebron so idk very team in the eastern conference to me seems to have to many variables

esperanzafleet69Participantif they can get rid of rip hamilton for any sort of person over 6’9 that can score inside they will be a playoff team… unless that happens tho, hopefully they’re lottery bound…. i think, especially in next years draft… they could come up big if they can get in the lottery…
go stones
