Right now, they have nobody at all at the 5 position.

Why not take both and let them fight it out for the starting role.

You can never have enough good big men, especially with the ridiculous athleticism and size that both these guys have.

I think both will be available to them when they pick.

If they did it I would have nothing wrong to say about it…. Also if both turn out great, trade one for play or picks in years to come.

The counter argument is that it’s tough to have two raw players with similar skill sets grow together. It would take so much coaching resources to put the needed attention for both to aid growth. Many times what may happen is that they stunt each other’s growth, one doesn’t get enough playing time, or just the fact maybe they would be better off having a veteran big to help them along. It’s like when the Hornets drafted two similar bigs in the lottery in Cedric Simmons and Hilton Armstrong, we know how both ended up. If the Blazers didn’t have other holes than in principle it makes sense, but considering they can upgrade PG and SG I would stay away from drafting both, especially Myers at 11. If he’s BPA on your board than consider but I think they could improve by going with a backcourt pick. It’s not likely both develop into stars with the limited playing time available. A team can afford to roll with the lumps on one guy, but they won’t put two guys out there who are struggling therefore one of them will probably end up having to grow in the D-league.

i also think there is little to no chance of drummond falling to the 6th. they should go after pj3 and leonard if they can get both

The teams picking before portland are all set at at Center:

    Biyombo, Nene, Varejao, and Cousins.

He will be there at 6 unless another team moves up to get him.

I’m a UConn fan, so I really don’t want Drummond going to Portland, Charlotte, or Sac AKA I hope he goes to washington or cleveland. what are the chances of that happening?

I even think Drummond won’t be available past the 4th pick. Somebody is gonna take the risk early in the draft.

Personally, I think it would be very wise of Washington to pick drummond. They need an alley oop mate with Wall. Nene, while a good center, would really be much better suited at PF. Drummond could learn from Nene since he is a skilled big man. Plus, it would kill 2 birds with one stone. Instead of having a decent center in Nene with a crappy PF, the wizards can have a dominant PF with an athletically and potentially dominant center

I don’t think Nene and Drummond on the same team would be bad, but I don’t know if it would ultimately help the team. Nene is a great center, but look how long it’s taken him to get to where he is today. Also, PF in the league now are expected to take and make the occasional 3-ptr nowadays (i.e. Bosh in game 7 vs the celtics). Nene would be a great mentor, but it’s tough to play with two natural centers on the court at the same time. Just look at Drummond’s UConn experience this year; either he, Oriaki, or both of them looked and played as if they were out of position all the time. Who’s to say the same couldn’t happen in DC w Drummond and Nene)

@NJBrown5 I think it is more of Nene being a natural PF that was forced to play C

I think that Andre Drummond will be snagged with the #5 pick by the Sacramento Kings.  He is very athletic, and he can slide over to the power forward position and play alongside DeMarcus Cousins.

Or, if Cousins can’t get his act together, I think that Drummond can be a potential replacement, and Cousins could be a good trading piece.

This is how my current top 5 looks like, a little over two weeks from the draft:

New Orleans Hornets: Anthony Davis (PF) – Kentucky

Charlotte Bobcats: Thomas Robinson (PF) – Kansas

Washington Wizards: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (SF) – Kentucky

Cleveland Cavaliers: Harrison Barnes (SF) – North Carolina

Sacramento Kings: Andre Drummond (C) – Connecticut

With those 5 being my current projected to go in the top 5, that leaves the door open for Portland with the #6 and the #11 picks.

In my personal opinion, I would use the #6 pick on Brad Beal, the freshman shooting guard from Florida.  Beal has really rifled up draft boards, and after watching Jeremy Lamb’s herendous pre-draft interviews, I am convinced that Brad Beal will be the #1 shooting guard off of the board.

Then with the #11 pick, I say Portland drafts Meyers Leonard.  They are in desperate need of a center, and with Leonard, you get a young prospect with is willing to block shots, rebound, and defend in the post while Portland is in the rebuilding mode a prospect like Leonard needs to improve his game.

With Brad Beal and Meyers Leonard, I’d say Portland would have had a very successful draft class.  They also have 2 second round picks available for good role players at the guard/forward positions.

Nene is a 5, not a 4.  I don’t like the Washington fit since they struggled so mightily to develop Javale. Developing Biyombo, Myers Leonard, Cousins or any other young big at the same time as Drummond is a major chore, especially given how integral bigs are to defensive schemes and how much there is to learn.  Cleveland is a great fit, but seems to be looking wing.  It’s at least possible, therefore, that Drummond is there at 6, though if I’m Charolette, I’m trading that pick for two others, at least, assuming some team falls in love with Andre.

Again, I know that Nene has played C his entire career. But he is more of a PF. When he was a FA, he was looking at teams who would play him at PF

Of course Nene was looking to play PF, but he was looking at teams that already had a developed C.  You think he would’ve gone to another team to play PF if they didn’t have a center?  Nene would’ve gone to Orlando, L.A., or Indiana because of Howard, Bynum, and/or Hibbert so he could play alongside of them.  Besides, so many people are comparing Drummond to Stoudemire, who play’s PF himself.  I think a team that has two big men that both think they’re a 4 isn’t going to work out very well.  I also don’t think either Nene or Drummond will ever be able to expand their range enough to play PF; covering agile PF’s on defense is a complete other issue all in itself.

Based on past history this would not be a smart move. Just take for example the Baby Bulls. What happened to them? When they decided to trade away a guy like Elton Brand for another draft pick just to go and pick Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry, and those two both were big time guys coming into the draft. One big to develop is enough of work, trying to develop two is just a disaster in the making.

I would rather they take one of those guys and Henry Sims in the second round to develop two Centers.
