Am i missing something, just wondering why he is placed at 30th pick on the draft board, i think last week he was in the second round?

Is this an just an error, or is there another issue with him..i thought he was considered to be a lottery pick type guy with his massive potential?

     Yea

    Sometimes I don’t get this site’s mocks

Like how can you have Quincy Miller that low? But have Ian Miller at Florida State projected lottery next year? I know it’s 2 different years but still makes no sense.

Yeah I agree 100% Quincy Miller has way too much potential, and skill to even be considered that low of a pick.  He’s top 10 in my book but I at the worse there is no way he slips out of the lottery.  Maybe they talked to a few scouts who questioned how his game translates and aren’t high on him but I just don’t get it.

Not only that Miller has a high probabability of coming back and if he does he’s most likely a top 5 pick.  He averaged 17ppg before PJ3 came back and Baylor was 5-0 as their go to scorer.  If he comes back as a sophomore it wouldn’t surprise me to see him average around 20 ppg and around 7 rebounds a 3 apg.

I hope he declares this year so Boston can take him with one of their two picks, would be a great understudy for Pierce while he learns the ropes, and would be ready to explode when Pierce retires.

He’s had too many games where he’s scored under 10 points to be a lottery point for me.

Guys I appreciate the constructive criticism. And it’s possible Miller can get a team to take him much higher than he’s currently rated on the mock. But, NBA scouts are NOT certain he’s a lock for the first round.

What gives Quincy Miller "massive upside"? He has a huge wingspan and handles but what good are handles if you can’t get by anybody? He has a low release point. His stats aren’t jumping off the page and he’s had an up and down freshman season. 0 pts in his last game with the flu.

Are you basing that "massive upside" on the hype he had before he tore up his knee? Please back up your criticism with some substance fellas!  How many times have you seen Q Miller fly down the court and yam on somebody this year? Are we just going to assume his knee will check out 100% and teams will draft him in the lotto based on the assumption his knee will return to where it was before the injury? Because right now, he’s a slow(er) Austin Daye with a little more toughness.

IF he backs next year 100percent from surgery he will be a very good one and at least a big time steal that’s why term of potential comes from…

I remember everybody went crazy when Rivers avg 20 per game in U18 game while playing star-like around 30mpg, Kyrie avg 15ppg and played well too, but Q was great too..he avg like 14ppg solid 9rebs per game and more assists that Rivers too in only like 22-24..after that he dominated all summer long..

he did it in first 5 games too (when he HAD to be first option) not only avg 17ppg but had a double double in one game and 6 assists too.

his release is slow but it’s not a big problem when you shot like him and have  7’4 wings what means most likele the longer one than any sf in the league besides KD..add those handles, a little cockyness and you have a guy who really can do some things from day one..and when his athleticism will be back he WOULD be what he was hyped before the injury(top 5)..

Miller doesn’t excite me that much as a prospect.  From a physical standpoint, he’ll get man handled at the next level, he needs at least 15-20 lbs of muscle and hope he can maintain the athletic ability he has right now.  He definately needs another year, IMO.

I think he’ll be a 15-25 pick next season, but top 10 this year? I was pretty curious about him coming in as a freshman, so I scouted him quite a bit at the beginning of the year and he averaged like 15 ppg ( Not 17) before Jones came back against the powerhouse lineup of…Texas Souther, Jackson St.,South Carolina St, TX- Arlington and SDSU ( a good team ).

I don’t think he’s done enough to prove being a lottery pick this season, he’s still in consistant and his best games are against Missouri, when he’s guarded by 6’2” and 6’3” guys.  He’s had more games with 5 points or less than he has had games of 20+ ppg.

He needs to prove more for me to consider him a guy who will even enter this year.  I think he’s a 2013 prospect, unless he has school or personal issues that make sense for him to come out this season.

I just don’t see it. He’s very slow footed for a SF (which is the position he will have to play in the NBA). He is severly undersized even for a SF (weight wise). He’s a good shooter but not a great one and has a slow release. I wouldn’t use a first round pick on him if I was an NBA GM

I don’t get some of the hype either. He has solid handles for his size, but they aren’t that great for a perimeter player. I think he’s going to have a tough time creating his own shot early in his career. And he’s going to be a turnstyle on D.

I think high school hype shouldn’t play such a big role in scouting a player once he has a resume of over 20 college games.  If he were a 3 star player having the exact same season for the exact same team, no one would be calling him a top 10 pick.

I understand why he’s slipping, I just think Perry Jones should be slipping a little further along with him.

This is why I love this sight because Aran will occassionaly drop in and just shut down our "assumptions"  with word around the league.

I cannot believe Aran went all Austin Daye on Quincy Miller…OUCH!

But if there is one team that I do my best to watch every single game of since ‘Nova don’t know how to win this year it’s Baylor.  I was super excited when PJ3 returned and Quincy declared he was coming aboard too.  Then they got the top JUCO transfer in Pierre and filled it all out with a sweet stroking Canadien.

But I still think what gives Quincy "massive upside" is yes first and foremost his skill level at that height.  He also seems to have a very high BB IQ and is very competitive.  His competitiveness is what makes me feel like he is going to reach his potential because he’s by all accounts a hard worker.  He has a very nice handles, passing ability, and scoring instincts for a player at his height.

If he played Missouri every game he’d probably be a top 5 pick this year because he tore through them both times but in losses however.

But as Aran touched on Millers downside is that he’s not a great athlete, and even in high school it was always his crazy length which enabled him to throw down monster dunks and not his leaping ability.  And he seems to be still recovering some athleticism from the ACL tear but it hasn’t affected him really this year in terms of missing time.

The main concern about Miller from a scouts standpoint is probably his funky shooting mechanics.  His release is way too low from about shoulder height, and his windup into the release can be all over the place.  Yes even with that deficiency he is still shooting over 40% from 3 and 47% from the field.

If you look at his numbers on face value as a freshman playing on a stacked ranked team with 12ppg and 5rpg they are pretty solid.  Shooting mechanics are something that can be fixed with the right coach in the league, the other obstacle he has to do is proove he can guard pro SF’s because Baylor plays zone.

All in all i still believe Miller will come back especially if he’s not a lotto pick.
