Drake is overhyped to me. He has a BORING way of rapping. Lacks a personality behind the mic IMO.

They’re both horrible. Listen to the Doors and learn something from music besides simple cliches about dealing drugs or robbing people or bragging about fancy cars and jewelry. Nick Drake and the Beatles will also suffice. They all have something every artist now-a-days lacks…..intelligence.

there is nothing cliche about robbing people or dealing drugs, unfortunately this is the reality many people have to deal with everyday. Everybody isn’t as fortunate to be able to go to school or find a good job. The cars a jewelry are symbols of success because most rappers really were on wellfare, they really were selling jobs living paycheck to paycheck and out of nowhere because of their talent of being able to relay a message and connect to everyday people they are millionaires. Their money didnt grow on a tree they really went out a made something out of their life therefore they have a reason to brag, and it gives people hope that if they did it so can I. And its true.

Eminem’s album is great. I love that he stopped going all crazy on us. Plus, relapse was corny.

Drake’s album? Far past my expectation. I think his album in terms of creativity? Top album of 2010 so far. I like the blend of rnb, hip-hop, pop etc.

Mr. analyst, listen to Eminem.. His rap is real music and is intelligent. He doesn’t just rap about cars and dealing drugs– he’s arguably the best rapper ever (definitely top-5). He has fallen off some since his earlier years but this album destroys his last 2 which were terrible (Encore/Relapse)

JNixon–Drake always seems like he is trying to sound cool instead of rapping good–i know what you mean….

Blazer-J Cole is sick can’t wait for his album to drop… Smart dude, good rapper.. Simba might be my favorite song my him.

jman- lil wayne is not a very good rapper. he can spit sometimes–but for the most part i don’t like him

I haven’t heard Eminem’s yet. I’m working on it right now lol.

Drake is super talented, but he’s not a complete rapper just yet. Thank Me Later was good overall, but it didn’t meet my expecations though. It’s not a disappointing CD… I just had HIGH expecations for him. He had tighter tracks on his mixtapes. No classics on this CD, but some tracks to bang for the summer. Show Me a Good Time is a good track.

I’m scared for J. Cole. Look at past rappers who worked under Jay-Z, they usually fail.

Drake is nothing without Weezy? OTHER WAY AROUND FRIEND. Why do you think he signed him? Because he knows he cannot beat him lyricswise.

Drake is overrated. He gets on a beat and he talks, he doesn’t rap. Also, some of his rhymes do not even make sense/are retarded. I’m not saying I don’t enjoy listening to a couple of songs by him, I am just not nearly as big of a fan as some people on here seem to be and some of my friends.

In my opinion, Jay-z is the best rapper alive (2pac will always be the best of all time). Reasonable Doubt and the first Blueprint were both amazing albums. And at 40, he still put out a pretty good album in the Blueprint III.

Word. I don’t know about the second half tho.

Unforgettable throws me off. I like Fancy, it’s good not great. Miss me and Find Your Love are hits. That’s about it.

Lol I think the same thing. Fancy is OK… Not a banger though. I don’t like Unforgettable, which is surprising because I usually like Jeezy. I don’t even pay attention to CeCe’s Interlude. 11/14 tracks ain’t bad.

I’m hyped for that Lupe. Both of his CD’s are two of my favorites.

I listened to Eminem many a times, but how can you compare those lyrics to “real” lyrics like The Doors or someone and even say he was half as intelligent as say Jim Morrison?

    Before you slip into unconsciousness
I’d like to have another kiss
    Another flashing chance at bliss
    Another kiss, another kiss

The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
We’ll meet again, we’ll meet again

Oh tell me where your freedom lies
The streets are fields that never die
    Deliver me from reasons why
You’d rather cry, I’d rather fly

The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I’ll drop a line

I’ve had both albums for about a week and I am a fan of both. After listening to both albums numerous times Recovery is without a doubt the better album. Recovery is an extremely powerful and emotional listen, its the album people thought Relapse was going to be. Every song on Recovery is tailored made to be a hit without sacrificing any lyrical slaughtering. Thats a feat that few artists can accomplish and Em makes it look easy.

Thank Me Later however is a colossal disappointment in my eyes. I’ve been waiting for this album like everybody else for quite a long time. When you title an album Thank Me Late you are obviously tryna make a statement. Drake wanted it to be known that he was coming to change the game and everybody will understand in a couple of years. I was expecting something along the lines of Reasonable Doubt, College Dropout, or even Cham’s Sound Of Revenge. Drake without a doubt fails to live up to expectations because his album just doesnt make that statement it was suppose to make. It doesn’t jump out and grab you like when you first listened to the Slim Shady LP. A perfect example of the way the album plays is how amazing the intro Fireworks in and the very next song Kareoke brings down the whole mood of the album because it is entirely too slow. That is the albums greatest fault is that it sounds like 2 different albums clashed into one. He has his slow songs like Kareoke which are so out of a place because I did not buy the Drake album to listen to him sing for 3 minutes n one 16 bar rap i would of popped in the Trey Songz album if i wanted to hear that.

and @ everybody who posted shit about how rap sucks or The Doors were real music you just out of your league. Drake and Eminem both write lyrics about popular culture and just things people go through in everyday life. If your too old to understand please dont hate on it because of it. If you were too read their lyrics off of OHHLA.com you would be surprised at just how in depth in insightful their music is. We feel their music just like you felt the rock music back in the day. its a sign of the times. It parallels our life.

And Hip-Hop and basketball is a match made in heaven so this was a good post.

Not my preferred genre but when you compare anyone to legends such as jim morrison than you surely will be dissapointed–especially if rap isn’t your thing.

Haven’t listened to too much oldies rock music… I’ll take a listen to The Doors later and let you know my opinion but that kind of music is pretty much uncomparable to present day rap (well at least the best lyrical rappers)

By uncomparable I mean that rap is more about defeating others/cockiness/street emotion… Oldies rock is completely different–you gotta take each for what it’s worth I suppose, which is two completely different things.

Chamillionaire is the best rapper from the South IMO because he blends creative lyrics, punchlines, in fact he got as many punchlines as anybody in the game right now even compare to the likes of Luda, Cassidy, and Fabolous, but he also got hooks for days and speaks about important topics. Plus his flow and rhymes are sick. But Luda and T.I. are obviously there too, the only other southern rappers who get respect in Philly lyrically is Wayne, Jeezy, and Rick Ross.

Eminem’s album is decent, I havn’t heard the Drake yet. I was still dissappointed with Recovery, he wen’t way too commercial IMO. I do not want to hear Pink or Rhianna singing on a Eminem track. Almost all the songs have a poppy feel too them that almost ruins the album. It’s a good thing he came hard on the mic, otherwise it would be garbage. I like that Seduction track, On Fire, Changes, WTP, and thats about it.

Eminem is still the best rapper in the game tho. Some other good ones that nobody has mentioned are Tech N9ne ( dude flows his ass off), pretty much all of Slaughterhouse (who just signed with Shady Records btw), especially Royce the 5’9 and Joey Ortiz. Everybody check out the Bar Exam 3 mixtape, it goes super hard. E-40 spits as well, his new one is good too.

Most of the songs on the album are commercial sounding, at least way more than any other album. Over half the songs have a hook sung by an some type of rnb singer or what not….Wack…especially that song with Weezy on it. That should have been one of the bests moments of the album instead they decide to sample that stupid song from Night At the Roxbury.

I listened to rap back when I was in high school such as Master P and just about everyone involved with him. Huge Eminem fan, especially the first two albums. I don’t even listen to rap anymore though, all rock music.

I respect your opinion man. Nah, I am not big into rap, but I atleast gave it a try, and people like Notorious B.I.G, Nas, Tupac, Eazy E, I have respect for and enjoy some songs. I respect people who atleast make beats and write intelligent lyrics and are not just popular because of popular opinion but have talent. I am not an Eminem fan, but I admit, atleast he has originality and his music, and is not like “everybody else”. But I respect your opinion and I get what you are saying about getting disappointed when comparing to legends, and I respect that you would give them a listen and not just be closed minded like most people. That’s a very good trait for life to not judge a book by it’s cover and I respect you for it man.

Even though I don’t like Eminem, I have respect for him. He is being himself, which is a human being, and a lot of his songs he will mention that life has it’s downs as well, and not just ups. He is a REAL person, and even though I don’t really like his music or lyrics, he is still being REAL, and I respect him for that. But now, people like Lil’ Wayne and stuff that just wrap about how amazing they are and just brag and brag and brag, I have no respect for whatsoever, because to me, they don’t seem like REAL people. They seem ignorant and arrogant, and they forget the place they came from, and how rough life used to be if they really went from rags to riches. If you are rich and wealthy, the more power to you and congratulations, but there is no need to brag about how rich you are. That is just annoying in my opinion, if it is in a rap song, or just a rich person that you are conversating with in the regular everyday world.
