Rubio falls to OKC at 3

You guys are forgetting that the Griz have Mike Conley Jr. who really improved his play the last 1/3 of the season, especially his shot selection and shooting, not to mention he's very young and a gifted passer. If they can't get fair value for him in a deal (which they won't - there's a surplus of NBA PG's in the draft and free agency), I think you'll probably see Memphis take Thabeet and pair him with Marc Gasol on the front line, with a great backcourt of Conley Jr., OJ and Rudy Gay, etc. Thabeet truly is a rare commodity in the NBA these days with his awesome size, lenght and athleticism. He's very young and will develop a better jump shot for those of you worried. My feeling is he's the next Mutumbo but will be better as he builds his frame - Remember he's very young. Mutombo was 25 (at least) when he graduated as a Senior from Georgetown - that's 4-5 years of physical development ahead of Thabeet when he was drafted.

The question that will swing this year's draft is WILL Memphis take Rubio. With their backcourt set (Conley Jr. and Mayo), I find it hard to believe they'll take Rubio (sorry Aran). My sense is had OKC won the second pick, they'd grab Thabeet as I think Memphis will do. Memphis with Thabet is an instant force, especialy with Conley Jr's improvement in play, Mayo's amazing shot, Gay's versitilty and Gasol's beef at the 4, which could be an amazing fit with a 7'3 Center in Hasheem Thabeet.

The smartest young GM in the NBA (Sam Presti OKC) could swing a deal with the knicks, but it's highly unlikely. He's smart enough to take the best player available in Rubio, and pair him with Westbrook, Jeff Green and KD. He'll have the youngest most exciting team in the NBA with a small but flying backcourt in Rubio and Westbrook, not to mentinon free pickins during summer free agents (turk?, Milsap? Marvin Williams? and role players like Chris Anderson and Kyle Krover?). It's too bad Isiah set the knicks back a decade by dumping picks and huge money for garbage, including next year's number 1 which is unprotected.

As for all you Knick fans, the knicks will build with Steph Curry, Lee, Galanari and Chandler and pray Lebron wins a championship or 2 in Cleveland so he can leave with grace as the team is getting old (Z, Ben W, Wally Z, Joe Smith & Varejo leaving). Remember Cleveland, not just their basketball, but in all sports has won NOTHING since the Browns won in 1960 or there abouts. So, if he doesn't win this or next year, it'll be very tough for him to leave, although he might. If the knicks are smart, they'lllet Nate walk but keep Lee to a reasonable deal and then they'll be able to land 2 max contracts, e.g. Lebron & Bosh or Amare or Joe Johnson - a player of that caliber.

i dont think so

conley's good, so was hinrich when the bulls drafted rose. also, their backcourt isn't set, conley was almost traded for joe alexander and sessions. also, memphis is the best place for rubio to start his career, he'll be the 4th spanish player (not sure, but there's pau, marc and jc navarro) to play for memphis.

additional comments

cleveland is not that old. look at their team, they have west, mo, boobie, jj, pavlovic, varejao and others who aren't even 30 yet. only Z, wally, big ben and joe smith are over 30.

have to agree with josh here, marc gasol is a C. he can't play the 4 and 5 like his older brother does. i don't want to be hatin' here but i think people should think first and do some research before they make posts like this. this is just ridiculous.

re: cleveland

Cleveland's entire front-line is well over 30. The next 2-3 years is their window of opportunity to win it all, with this year being no exception. JJ has proven nothing, West is a tweener and Varejao is gone after this year; next at the latest as he's been in a huge contract dispute with the team over the last 18 months (see Dan Fegan). Their only other star (if you want to call him that) is Mo Williams, who I agree is a great player. Danny Ferry has done a great job of building a strong VETERAN defensive presence to surround LBJ. The team is built with strong, steady, reliable solid veterans like Big Z, Ben Wallace, Joe Smith and Wally Z who combine for well over 40 years of NBA experience and who compliment Lebron well. But overall, the team is getting old, and minus Varejao, they have nothing up under 30 - come on JJ Hickson is for real?

My point is Lebron is not stupid and will go all-out this and next year to finally win the city of Cleveland a championship - something that hasn't been done in any sport in over 45 years. Other than Lebron's desire to win a championship, his top priority in life is to become a billionaire - he's been quoted several times about his desire to attain billionaire status.. In fact, for his own reasons, he's befriended Warren Buffet and is very motivated to achieve that goal. I think it sucks and he's being overly materialistic, but hey it's America. Michael Jordan took the minimum salary for many years so the bulls could add guys like Craig Hodges and Paxson. Lebron's just not that type of guy. Unfortunately, Cleveland's too small a market for him to make that kind money, whereas he'll quintuple his endorsement revenue easily in a city like New York. Just my thoughts, feel free to respond. Best, Adam

Thabeet a rare Commodity?

NO WAY This guy hardly ever got above the rim at UCONN. The way he was able to sit in the post in college WILL NOT WORK in the NBA. Those of you making him out to be a good center please tell me why he never showed up in any big games.
For those fans relying on Thabeet I gave you fair warning beware....lol.. His college defensive dominance wont translate to the league. (Remember Greg Oden)

While Lebron may leave

While Lebron may leave Cleveland, it has nothing to do with this team getting old.... Really,Wally,Ben and Joe smith how are these guys the differences makers for Lebron's decision. Frankly, all of these guys suck. i mean Joe Smith was cut two months and the Cavs just signed him then. Chicago basically gave away wallace, he averaged 3 points a game. Wally has one skill, (they certaintly didn't sign wally for defense). you can get guys of that caliber for no money during any offseason. none of these players played more than 23 minutes a game.
Z is an important part of this team but when his contract expires in 2010, an enormous 12 million and Wallace ridiculous 14.5 million, I'm sure they could sign a big much better than both of them. Wally's 13 mil also comes off the books after this year and you can find a player twice as effective as wally for 5. They will also lose Snow's 8 million after this year. ( yes they have to sign Lebron, but they would still have a ton of money to play around with. ) All of the guys you mentioned are severly overpaid, and the Cavs can actually improve once their contracts come off the book. The cavs are happy that these guys are getting old and their obese contracts of their prime are expiring.

This team has some major steals in Mo being locked down at 8 mil until 13 (ridiclous deal, one of the best contracts in the league), west at 4 mil till 11, and gibson at 4 till 13.

I think your completely wrong as I see the Cav's players surrounding Lebron can go no where but up. cap space, good young players all signed cheaply, no bad contracts after 2010. Considering the FA's this team will be able to sign because of Lebron... the future of the Cavs looks scary like 72 win+scary.

Of course, Lebron could just say screw the Cav's I want to be a knick, but it won't be because the Cav's team is getting old and bad.

The grizzlies will pick

The grizzlies will pick Rubio with the second pick(if they don't use it to acquire a veteran). What's wrong with having two good point guards? Mike Conley has not proven he is an untouchable commodity to the Grizz at this time. I also think the Grizzlies are very happy with Marc Gasol's production his rookie year. Oh yeah! Please don't believe that crap on ESPN stating that the Grizzlies would have picked Thabeet with the number one pick. Pure bull!

Rubio 2

I think Rubio will go 2 regardless. I think that a deal similar to TWOLVES Memphis last year because alot of teams want Rubio to start there franchise. So I think Memphis will draft and trade him but that means Conley will need to step up and be the man!
