Toronto16ParticipantWhat’s going on in that guys head? Why did he shoot his team out of the game like that? Is it time for Scott Brooks to bench him in crunch time?

TyroberParticipantThe Grizzlies played great defense against Durant in the 4th but Westbrook just dribbled around and then threw up a shot. I was watching the game and I literally screamed "Pass the ball to Durant". He even called off Durant at one point. I dont know what was going on with him.

FastAndFuriousParticipantLet’s look at the real facts.
Westbrook locked Conley ass up, and they couldn’t get into no rhythm, and the Thunder were kicking their ass. Ibaka and Perkins were controlling the paint, everything was good.
Durant was being timid but it wasn’t noticed because the Thunder were cruising to what looked like a blow out win.
Maynor comes in and lets Conley start getting loose and everything started opening up for the Grizz, next thing you know it’s a close game, Westbrook of course thinks he needs to shoot which he doesn’t, but at the same time he’s been defending very well all day.
You got Durant not even wanting the ball, or calling for it, then when he does get it he can’t create any seperation from Tony Allen, which results in him missing.
Then you got Ibaka shooting one dribble pull ups like thats what he do on a regualr basis.
The blame is on Scott Brooks, he obviously can’t control the team.
Yes Westbrook does things that make you cringe.
But it all starts with the head coach.

Cardinal_FanParticipantImo……Russell Westbrook wants to be Derrick Rose sooooo damn bad its ridiculous!!!! The reckless way he drives to the rim…..but cant finish strong like Rose, and the outta rhythm jump shots he takes…..even tho thats the weakest part of his game. Ive come to the conclusion he has seen wut Rose has done an is sayin to his self….Hey, I can do that.

FastAndFuriousParticipantLet’s not forget he had 23 points and 12 assist to go along with 6 boards.
You can’t help but keep him and jus hope he matures.

mikeyvthedonParticipantYes, I saw that Westbrook was really forcing things at the end of the game. But, they had Kevin Durant in the worst positions to get the ball. Tony Allen and Shane Battier have been playing fantastic defense on him.
It is kind of crazy, though the Grizz have not played together as a core for a long time, they have some fantastic veteran pro’s with much more experience than the Thunder. They have killed them inside, and I have to think Jeff Green would have not really made much of a difference. If Perkins is struggling against Randolph, than Green has no freaking chance.
I really disliked the way OKC was spreading the floor. They had big guys up at the three point line, really far out of position. It almost seemed like they were trying to post up Durant, not to mention their big guys had no real interest in setting picks off of the ball for Durant to get free.
All in all, they are still a young team, and while Russell has played some inconsistent ball, it is not exactly like Durant really stepped up when they needed him either. I think that people already trying to trade Russell Westbrook need to chill, he and Durant make a great combination. Not only do they bring a lot of different things to the offensive end (remember, this is Westbrook’s third year, and he is still developing a jumper), but they are both potential lock down defenders. If you trade Westbrook for some other "true" PG, will he bring what Russell does to the defensive end?
People can blame Russell, but Durant shot 2-9 in the 4th and in OT, and that was not all Westbrook’s fault. Not to mention, when Russell was off the floor, they were even more out of wack. The Thunder clearly do not have as complete of a team as the Bulls, not to mention Rose is far more advanced offensively than Westbrook. Perkins and Ibaka are a nice start, but they need more depth, they do not have a Taj Gibson. If Thabo and Harden merged into one player, they might be set, but for now, one plays defense, one plays offense.
Again, still do not count them out of the series, though Memphis has looked great. Zach Randolph should still kill them throughout the series, but they really need to draw up some stuff for Durant. He can create his own shot quite well, but he is not getting to the line enough and he definitely is not taking advantage of his severe height advantage. People kept talking about how LeBron was locked down by Tony Allen, well, is Durant not in the same boat? The difference is, last year the Cavs were up 2-1 on Allen’s team. They lost the next 3, I would be surprised if the Thunder did not win a couple more games. This could go 7, but I still think the Thunder have a good chance to win this series. I am sticking with them, still think they have the two best players in the series. Randolph has a great match-up, but for as much as people are hating on Russell, he is still having a decent series.

NJHooper95ParticipantWestbook was never a true point guard. He didnt play point in high school or college. He was a great athlete so people figured he could make the transition. Up until recently he had did a decent job. But maybe he is better suited for a combo guard or sixth man role as a scorer. I dont know if he can remain at point on the Thunder, he is still a good player, just not a good point guard.

SteroidParticipantWestbrook has improved A LOT in such a short time to get where he has, and he will only get smarter the longer he is in the game, but as far as being a PG, I don’t think it’s his natural position. I don’t see OKC winning a championship with RW at the PG. They need someone who will make smart decisions with the ball.

LawDeeZeeParticipantmikeyvthedon hit it on the head, the defense that tony allen played in the 4th quarter yesterday was amazing! durant’s catches were EXTREMELY difficult and then he smothered him and contested every shot when and if he did catch it … westbrook is clearly the scapegoat here, but durant shot horribly in the 4th and OT and was 0-7 specifically when singled covered by tony allen for the last 8 mins of regulation and the OT period – let’s give credit where credit is due – tony allen is probably the best perimeter defender in the league …
… imagine how good a defensive backcourt this would be if they’d have kept lowry?!?!?!
