Sam Young top 15 pick?
I can see the Joey Graham comparison. thats about right.I think he is going to score a lot more than expected, but he impressed me when he played against elite talent thats all. Not a potential all star but a double figure scorer maybe.
he won't be a top 15 pick and he shouldn't be. he's already going to be 24 next month, so he really has no upside at all. what you see is what you get with him. and i think he is going to have trouble getting his shot off at the next level, he has no ballhandling skills. and his release on his shot is all goofy lookin. he can still get buckets though but i think he'll land in the late 1st round 25-30
Sam Young could still get better (ballhandling) and he produced in college, plays good defensive and has good size... with that in mind he would make a good fit with the Spurs in the late round.
The only thing that hurts him is his age. People are all about trying to find the next young stud and young is already 25. If he were a freshman he would be a top 5 pick.
How bad of a draft this is, Its Sam Young even being up for discussion as a lottery pick. I saw him demolish my mountaineers ALOT, but come on. Athletic and tall enough to guard the 2, 3, and undersized 4s at about 6'6", 210. Ugly shot that honestly is too slow for the NBA. Limited handle, limited post play, mediocre mid range game. 10 years ago he could have been drafted late first round merely because of his defense, but with the new zone defense rules, teams will just leave him alone. If he some how develops his shot (a la Gomes, Posey), otherwise these Joey Graham comparisons are more than accurate. Work outs will decide all of this. If he can show progress on his shot, some ridiculous measurements at the combine, and effective play in the scrimmages, he has a chance on a team looking for an athletic defensive wing that can play right away.
A shot can be practiced over and over again. It is essentially the same motion every time, so a player can develop the muscle memory to know exactly how much strength to use, plus how much touch to use when shooting. When a player drives to the hoop, on the other hand, every time it is different. He can learn how dribble with both hands, and learn technical move such as a cross over and behind the back, plus hesitation moves, but it all comes down to instinct. A player has to know when, where, and how to use a move and with in a split second. This is something that can not be taught as easily as a shot. If he was a 15-19 year old prospect, I would give him a chance, but he is almost 24, its doubtful that he can develop these split second reflexes.
unfortunately i wouldn't be surprised if he would be top 15 pick, but that would be terrible,he's just not that good,al thornton's situation was similiar but he's had better tools to play in the nba than young, thornton is a starter, young is a role player on a contending team
that's true, cause this draft is weak but still there are more than a few players that are better than young, have more potential and will translate better in the nba,not a bunch of them, but enough for him not being a top 20 pick, now that's what should happen, but with some strange things happening in the draft these days it's pretty hard to say anything for sure
i think last year he would have been mid second round

I seen him play a few times this past year not knowing much about him but dude can ball. He shot the three well and shot coming off of screens pretty effective every game I saw. He is a good athlete too. I think he can be a steal if he goes in the twenties do to his scoring potential. What do you think?
