dmo21ParticipantSo it’s still slow in the NBA world with all the big, medium, and most of the small names signed already. As the team rosters pretty much stand as is, I thought we could all make some projections on what is going to happen next year. I’ll also be making this into a competition where answers get points and I’ll record everybody’s projections. After the year is over, I’ll tally up the points to anoint our Nostradamus of the Year (NOY) award. And don’t worry, I won’t flake out. I’ve been on this site daily for over 6 years.
So here are the rules:
1. Predict the standings for the East teams (1-15) and the West teams (1-15). 5 points for correct position, 3 points if they are one rank away, and 1 point if playoff/non-playoff prediction is correct if no points have been received for that team yet.
2. You get 3 predictions for the MVP, MIP, DPOY, 6MOY, and ROY. Order counts on these predictions. If your first prediction is correct, you get 5 points. If your second prediction is correct you get 3 points. If your third prediction is correct you get 1 point. If none of your predictions are correct, you suck.
That’s pretty much it. It’s fairly simple. Some input on the scoring from other posters would be appreciated as I think I might have the team rankings weighted to much, but the decision will be made based on our opinions.
Also, don’t criticize people’s predictions as none of us really know what is going to happen next year. So don’t be going around neggin’ everybody if they don’t put your team in the playoffs. Once you post your picks, there is no changing.
I’ll have my picks up in a little bit so people can use it as a template.

dmo21ParticipantThat was a hard choice. But the warriors lost their backup pg and best big man off the bench in jack and Landry. They also have to rely on curry, lee, and bogut who have all had troubles with injuries in the past. They did bring in iggy, which will help their depth. Memphis is playing their first full year without gay. They’ll be a good defensive team and they added some guys who can actually make threes which will help out their post oriented offence. They might dump zbo due to salary, which could bring this team down. But I’m a huge Ed Davis fan so id kinda like that to see him get some more minutes.

scliddiardParticipantI hope you guys that are thinking Kanter will win MIP are right, either him or Favors would please me.
B-BallFan : If I’m right your a Jazz fan and if your right and Kanter wins MIP and Hayward is 3rd and if Trey finishes 3rd in ROY race and Favors has at least a decent yr, I don’t see the Jazz finishing last in the west, I think that must be wishful thinking on your part and your hoping we end up with Wiggins . I’m OK with all of this happening but I just don’t see the Jazz finishing last if those 3 guys have good to very good years.
The West is tough and the draft is very good so if the Jazz finish last or second to last that would put us in the running for a very good player in the draft. This is the year to struggle.0- Posted on: Wed, 08/21/2013 - 4:09pm #835623
B-ball fanParticipantI’m actually not a Jazz fan, even if my selections make me look that way. Looking back at my list, it does seem unlikely that the Jazz would get that much award recognition for a last place team. That said, Enes Kanter is in line for a big boost in minutes and is already fairly efficient and productive when given minutes, Trey Burke has very little contention for playing time for a rookie pg and this year’s rookie class lacks star power, and Gordon Hayward should see his role on the team increase.
But even big steps up in production from Hayward and Kanter and a good rookie season may not be enough for the Jazz to avoid the cellar, as they are very inexperienced and have a dearth of veteran talent. Enes Kanter, Gordon Hayward, and Trey Burke could all have good years, but still fail to make-up for the loss of Big Al, Paul Millsap, and Mo Williams.
The Jazz’s young line-up will need time to gel and figures to struggle at both ends of the floor, as even if Hayward improves, he isn’t ready to be a go-to scorer, and Kanter could win MIP, but still fail to replace the production of Al Jefferson. And in this year’s draft, Trey Burke could contend for ROY without being a true upgrade over Mo Williams.

scliddiardParticipantYou make good points and like I said, in a lot of ways I hope your right, the Jazz bench will be atrocious and that could or probably should result in a lot of losses. I really like Kanter and think he has a great chance to be the go to guy for the Jazz, he is inexperienced but shows a lot of talent. That said , Kanter for MIP is very possible. Hayward should improve from about 14.2 pts to 16.5 or so maybe even more, Favors , I think he will still struggle offensively but he should still score around 14 or 15 and he will anchor the defense. Somebody has to score so I don’t think those figures are too high, Burks is a scorer and if he gets his time he will probably score 12 to 15 pts per. To me Burke will struggle and score around 10. The positive that will come out of this year will be seeing the youing core guys improve , I think that will happen even if the losses pile up. Because the Jazz FO didn’t throw Kanter , Favors, Hayward or Burks to the wolves, these kids do have some experience and even though I see a lot of looses, I see also some close games, entertaining games, that end with an L.

dmo21ParticipantI was thinking about putting COY in there but I’m not a big fan of that award so I don’t really wanna give it recognition. It usually just goes to the coach of the most improved team, which isn’t fully indicative of coaching ability. When Sam Mitchell has one and Jerry Sloan doesn’t, that’s when the award loses its credibility.

TheTruth86ParticipantThe MVP, ROY and other awards to be with five predictions calculating the points in the same pattern (1st – 5, 2nd – 4, 3rd – 3, 4th – 2, 5th – 1), I think it’d be more interesting and guys who already posted their forecasts can edit. What do you think ?
You can also include Top scorer and/or Coach of the year. Thank you.

1. Indiana Pacers
2. Miami Heat (Miami had reached their ceiling. I even predict a step back, because of Mike Miller’s departure and D-Wade getting older. I’m not considering Greg Oden a legit contributor yet, I wish him all the best. though.)
3. Brooklyn Nets
4. Chicago Bulls
5. Cleveland Cavaliers (Lots of talent and a coach upgrade, they can do it!)
6. New York Knicks (I put them here on purpose, I want to see a New York clash in the first round with Brooklyn prevailing).
7. Detroit Pistons
8. Atlanta Hawks
————————————————————————————————
9. Washington Wizards (This was the hardest call. The battle for the 8th seed, I just don’t believe Wizards can stay healthy, besides I don’t believe in Otto Porter. So a break-out season by John Wall wouldn’t be enough, Hawks are more balanced and HEALTHIER, imo.)

9. New Orleans Pelicans
10. Portland Trailblazers
11. Dallas Mavericks
12. Denver Nuggets (I really like them but losing the best GM, the best coach and with Galo injured + Lawson busy cheating on his pregnant wife/girlfriend – I think the Nuggets need to get punished! lol).
