Call me crazy, but I’m glad that the thunder didn’t get the top pick because they would have got Blake Griffin, and to me Serge Ibaka has better upside and believe or not he is more athletic.I’ve read somewhere that his vertical was so high that he jumped higher than the highest measurment and may be faster than good old Blake. He is compared to Shawn Kemp imagine Shawn Kemp without the drug problem. If Serge puts it all together it’s very scary how good he can be.Opinions please.

So hes more athletic…..and? Why dont you start scouting olympic long jumpers? Ibaka is very raw and has alot of things to put together. There have been many phenomenal athletes that havent been able to put things together in the past.

You guys make goods points, but if this was last years draft serge would have gone higher than blake and serge maybe younger than blake, you guys act like blake griffin skillset is off the charts or something, blake probably a better ball handling, but that’s it

and he wouldnt have went higher..draft sites have him higher then what nba gms have him…on top of that he was already drafted by the sonics in 2008 at 24…im pretty sure blake was a lotto pick if he came out last year

    oh…ok i saw 24 in Josh’s post.

I mean both guys are young….they still have time to develop. Obviously Griffin is farther in his developing stage but Ibaka needs to come over and play….

Since you seem so critical of the ol boy when do you think he should come over to play? They say he’s more skilled than the average african import(try saying that three times) he can’t be as bad as Sene,or Samb let me know

more skilled then the average african import isnt saying awhole lot…. not to critical just stating the facts..too many fans see you tube clips and think…”wow this guys is ready now”…yet they dont think…hum, mmm why isnt the team with this guys rights trying hard to get the player over here esspecially if he plays the position they need…he doesnt have a big contract buy out and hes wants to play in the nba ..hes just not ready…just stating facts..same with other euros who nba teams draft but dont bring over till years later

Griffen’s biggest asset is his radical desire to get better. He probably played harder than anyone in the nation last season, doing things that most superstars wouldn’t. He dives for loose balls, rebounds both in and out his area, and he responds well to coaching. I can’t think of anybody in the last 2 or 3 drafts that works harder than he does. Players like Blake Griffen are really rare.

Serge Ibaka is a great prospect, and I’m not saying he doesn’t hustle (he does), but he doesn’t bring much to the game other than his length and athleticism. Just because Ibaka has a higher verticle doesn’t mean he could be better than Griffen. Griffen produces and has brute strength. Besides his verticle, his length and his shotblocking ability I can’t think of anything that Ibaka is better at then Griffen.

Remember James White? Great athleticism doesn’t necessarily make you a great player.

You know your shit, alot of people except the people on the forum don’t know about James White, but anyway until that dude Josh told me his stats against big men overseas I thought he was better than he actually was,but why so quick to write off Ibaka?

Nobody is writing off Ibaka. I went into a deep depression last year when Utah chose Koufos over him. Serge was my favorite prospect all year.

Ibaka could be a great player. I just think that your title is little wreckless.

Tiago is not going to the Spurs this year supposedly. He is in the last year of his deal with Tau Ceramica and will than supposedly come over, although he would be taking a pay cut in doing so due to rookie scale contracts (maybe new CBA will help with Europeans, although that could cause major issues). I do not believe Fran was dunked on by VC Josh, that was Fredric Weis who the Knicks drafted 15th in 1999 (one pick ahead of Ron Artest). Fred supposedly was all hype and was never more than a marginal player in France, and is known as the 7’2 guy Vince destroyed in 2000. Fran was drafted in 2005, and as the 12th pick it sucks that he has yet to come to the Magic. He has done fair in foreign play in I believe his native Spain, and I am sure the Magic could use him as they lack depth at the 4/5.

While I like Serge a lot, I think Blake has the tools to be a better player. He may not have Serge’s vert, but he is just as fast and has much more of a skill set, not to mention he is built like 2 Serge Ibaka’s.

De’Andre Jordan is 1.5 inches shorter than Lopez,Jordan has longer wingspan higher standing reach and start checking out max vert reach gives you a better idea of how high these guys get up

Big Serge is playing today(Serge don’t fail me now),but any how I’ve checked a few different sites they say his max vertical is in the 40’s according to newsok.com Ibaka max vertical at 46 inches don’t know where 33 inches came from unless you are talking about no step vertical, but I would think it would be higher than that

im pretty sure they exaggerated..okc says he has a 39inch vert …im also not sure where 33 comes from..46 is just as absurd

There’s a chance that it’s in not 46,but most sites I’ve seen say it’s in between 42-44 inches still very freakish for a guy at 6’10,not to mention that his vertical is nearly 10 inches higher Blake Griffin just think about that for second WOW!!

i think he is extremely athletic, but raw offensively. I saw the clip on his profile for this site, and it looks like the dude can actually shoot too for a big man. his free throws looked good, and he hit a couple 3s too, which really surprised me. i guess we will just have to watch him today at 5:00 ET on http://www.nba.com/magic/2009_Orlando_Pro_Summer_League.html
